• Valve To Release L4D2 Fan Mod As Paid DLC

Wow, please fuck me over harder for buying the first L4D, Valve. I bought like five copies and sent it out to some of my friends and family, just for everyone to stop playing it after about 30 hours of it. And then there's no new content. THEN Valve releases L4D2 which has a metric fuckton more content and mod support and has basically everything from L4D1. I bought the copies before I knew there was going to be a huge fucking sale after the preorders, FYI.
"You make the mods, we cash the paychecks"
"..and get 5% commission which we estimate to come out to 10,000,000 dollars." Yeah shut the fuck up.
I still think that L4D 1 is the best.
I liked story-heavy campaigns. If I wanted to play random maps that make no sense and use 100% recycled content, I'd play svencoop.
I liked story-heavy campaigns. If I wanted to play random maps that make no sense and use 100% recycled content, I'd play svencoop.
Or just download a l4d2 campaign from the internet.
Here's a simple solution: Why don't we all just e-mail Chet Faliszek (Leader of the L4D team) or Gabe Newell and tell them that we don't want a non-canonical campaign being placed in our game permanently, and just feature it for a week or so like they did with 2 Evil Eyes and One 4 Nine? That's what I'm planning to do. If Valve is looking for something from the community, we'll give them a piece of our minds. [editline]17th February 2011[/editline] Here's what I have in my message. (Warning, somewhat of a long read!)
Dear Mr. Newell, Hello again, it's George. I don't know how many others have e-mailed you yet about this subject, but many Facepunch users and I are disappointed in this future DLC (I know most people at Valve tend to listen to the Steam-Powered User Forums more often than not, but sometimes, they just don't make the best decisions). I myself have no problem with Death Toll, Dead Air and Blood Harvest being ported to Left 4 Dead 2, but a non-canon campaign? I'm sorry sir, but this is what I have a problem with. Why not just advertise Cold Stream for a week or two like you did with 2 Evil Eyes and One 4 Nine? I'm sure everyone at Valve is still busily working on Portal 2 and that's why the Valve-made content for Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead has been scarce, but sometimes, looking towards the community for help isn't always the answer, especially with one such as SPUF. Maybe once Portal 2 has been released, a new campaign (Set in canon and made mostly by your company) focusing on the L4D2 Survivors after The Parish would be in order? Again, I have no problem with the other L4D1 campaigns being ported to the second game, but think twice before you permanently add in a campaign that has nothing to do with the actual storyline. The following are quotes of many people's response to the future addition of Cold Stream: "I don't want any new campaigns added unless it's actually canon. If I wanted a campaign that doesn't have to do with the main story, I'll just download it from L4DMaps. Valve is treading on very thin ice now." - Myself "I wonder why they chose such a *censored* mapper, did anyone here play 2 Evil Eyes? I did, and it was awful, out of place props, poor lighting, bad transitions, lots of stupid unnecessary stuff like excessive use of crashed planes and trains. Overall it was just stupid. I can't imagine why Valve was in love with his campaign and gave him the green light to include another one of his hellspawn's in an upcoming DLC. I love L4D2, but what the *censored* is with this?" - J4censolo "I hate how Valve can turn anything good in the reader's eyes: For this DLC we start with wanting to experiment by releasing a map pack that wasn’t about story. It would just be new campaigns for Left 4 Dead 2.That makes the first constraint no new audio or story. aka "We don't have the time to create anything new, so let's put random, non-fitting stuff into the game so it gets attention (like TF2's recent hats and weapons)." Same goes for the Mann Co. store where Gabe said something like "We wanted to experiment with the store ... bla bla bla ... the most sold item was the most expensive item ... bla bla bla ..." in an interview a few days ago. Of course it's just money whoring. If it was an experiment why would you make it that expensive? Another example is how they never mentioned that they couldn't get Jim French, the voice actor of Bill, for The Sacrifice. Again they said something about experimenting by letting Bill die but in reality they simply couldn't get Jim French to add some new lines since he's in prison. What would be a better decision than letting his character die?! I don't mind new Updates/DLCs and featured community stuff but please be the human and honest company you are known for! Otherwise you start to disappoint me." - DasMatze "Dear Valve: Don't stop updating, just don't release crappy half-arsed mutations we can make and make some new *censored* maps and weapons yourself." - xeonmuffin "I liked story-heavy campaigns. If I wanted to play random maps that make no sense and use 100% recycled content, I'd play svencoop." - Hell-met "Needs more skins, animations and gameplay elements not new maps and half assed stuff." - The Combine "Honestly this whole thing is a slap in the face to other Left 4 Dead 2 mappers. So many with MUCH better campaigns than 2 Evil Eyes have contacted valve several times showing off their campaigns and not a peep. But then a guy with a mediocre campaign gets blessed by Valve, or I could just be jealous." - Obama Yo Momma Sincerely, George (Lordgeorge16 [TMT]) PS: Please forward this message to Chet Faliszek if it is necessary for him to take a look at this, since it concerns Left 4 Dead more than anything else. At least they aren't doing this with Cold Case
I personally find it pretty funny how much you guys are complaining and whining over this. Not to mention it's not like they're just copy-pasting the maps from L4D1, Valve has to make tons of changes as they did with adding No Mercy Hospital. [editline]17th February 2011[/editline] Also, 2EvilEyes was great, it's just that Valve fucked some shit up and for some reason hordes were called every few minutes at random times and crescendo events were screwed up in general.
Does Valve really think L4D is as fun as they make it out to be? It's not fun to play. It get's boring after 10 minutes of play and versus is the most frustrating piece of crap ever. It's more frustrating than campers in CoD and that's a long shot. Sure you can have a few laughs with friends, but when you're finished, you probably wont touch for another couple months.
[img_thumb]http://i55.tinypic.com/2cyiavc.jpg[/img_thumb] [editline]17th February 2011[/editline] And yeah, 2EvilEyes was fucking awful. Don't know why Valve choose this mapper, and not a team like from I Hate Mountains for any new content instead.
more like
I think L4D2 would be more fun if you could grab zombie limbs and hit zombies with them.
if the mann co update was dlc i wouldnt buy it

Maybe (and I'm just going out on a limb here) just because you don't like it doesn't mean other people don't like it.
2EvilEyes was indeed terribad and this new one probably won't be much better, but I don't see why everyone is complaining. It's not like the updates for TF2 where you're essentially forced to play with the new content. The campaign is completely separate. It's not like the content will somehow spill over into existing campaigns. It can be completely ignored.
It's like one of those google ads "I stay at home all day and make $100 a week"
Could a mod seriously remove the "paid" from the title? It's very misleading.
I think everyone can agree that 2 evil eyes sucked.
If it's anywhere near as shitty as the Mutations (or if it doesn't show what happens after the parish) then fuck that shit. [editline]17th February 2011[/editline]
I think L4D2 would be more fun if you could grab zombie limbs and hit zombies with them.
You're looking for grabbed by the ghoulies. You can hit zombies with their arms. Please redirect yourself to there.
Jesus Christ, people really will complain at anything. It's as if people would prefer no content at all. How can new, free, completely separate campaigns be a bad thing.
I think the fact that they paid for the original (not expecting a sequel immediately) that's all but obsolete now annoys people.
"Hi, we were thinking about bringing you some new content, but we don't want to do it ourselves so here's one of the campaigns, go ahead and make us DLC, community."
yeah I bet the author is pissed. who the fuck does valve think they are, paying the author to distribute his mod? [editline]18th February 2011[/editline] i think it's more about valve caring about their modding community
Who plays L4D2 anymore? It was a great game and all, but it got old fast.
"You make the mods, we cash the paychecks"
This is pretty much how Valve works. Counter-Strike, Team Fortress and Day of Defeat were mods they released commercially, Portal was a student project turned into a game, and how about DOTA2?
Who plays L4D2 anymore? It was a great game and all, but it got old fast.
I do, and over 12,000-16,000 players daily. It's more than Garry's Mod by several thousand.
Personally, im not complaining, hey, if i dont like it, i dont play it. Mann co. store? Meh, i dont see why theres such a fuss, its optional. This and L4D2 as a whole? Its good for me because i never had a chance to get the original so now i can enjoy the original, but with a better autoshotty. See, if its free, i dont complain, mostly, i simply just dont play it. Although i gotta agree, 2 evil eyes, wasnt so good. [editline]17th February 2011[/editline] Maybe its just that i dont judge these moves as Valve the WHOLE company, because they have seperate teams for each game/game series.

As long as its free for the PC version then its fine. But if i have to pay then Valve is fucking messed up.
As long as the DLCs remain free I'm okay with them doing this, but then again look how the TF2 community content turned out.
Majority response (albeit justified): K wtf that's so consolized and un-VALVe like. Minority response: Good for the modders :D I'm both, even though I know VALVe actually has this as their business model and they've done it since the beginning.
You realise they're also adding the other 3 L4D1 maps, yeah?
thats all i wanted. i have been playing no mercy so much; l4d1 campaigns are just superior to l4d2's
I honestly never thought I'd say "Valve is stupid," ever.
