You guys fail to realize that Microsoft MAKES Valve have all DLC payable. It's the reason why console TF2 doesn't get content updates.

L4D isn't about the story, it's about the little details and the hints all around. In an interview Chet said that he was inspired by the novel The Road, and wanted the world of L4D to feel unexplained.
Don't play the game and expect to find out what happened in the bigger picture ( like the cause of the infection ), instead look for what happened where you're currently at ( like the CEDA evacuation centers and little things like police cars, army brigades, dead survivors, saferoom graffiti etc. )
