This is something that should have been obvious to anyone that knows anything about human behavior. Same thing happened when violent video games started to become popular in the 90s. Unfortunately there are still people out there who say "This sort of thing shouldn't even exist in our society why cant those people stop liking little kids like them homosexuals should stop liking men rabble rabble" who will prevent this from happening and help keep the child related crimes at their current state. The world would be a better place without people who try to impose their moral views on others through the government.

I still think the real deal should be legalized too. The act of child molestation should still be illegal, but possession of photos should not be.
And I'm of the mind that photos are just a random organization of pixels that randomly form an image that might make people think of something arbitrary. Why should random organizations of pixels be banned?

Because those random organisation of pixels document a time when a child who more than likely did not know what they were getting into, was abused sexually.
It isn't really possible to produce child pornography legally, that is with consent, which children cannot give, so making sure it's not distributed out of respect for the privacy of the person in the video/picture is important.
I doubt anyone ever wants to be raped/taken advantage of sexually, and I double doubt anyone wants to have videos of that event spread across the internet for anyone to see.
Hentai is classed as child pornography in the UK.

His point is, I think, is that you can generate a image which could look identically real with some level of technology - I don't agree, I think fake stuff is w/e floats your boat and possession of real images should be illegal, for the reasons you stated.

There are pedoPHILES, and pedosexuals. The latter are the ones with legitimate attraction, and while some ARE responsible for sexually abusing children, more often than not the child is kidnapped or abused by someone with no true specific attraction to children. Messed-up people with a need to dominate or overpower something weaker than them to make them feel empowered.
The world at large has been trying, misguidedly, to ban lolicon (underage hentai), and I've never thought this would do anything but make things worse, let alone the artistic infringement of First Amendment Rights. Nobody is hurt in the creation of a drawing. We who fight so hard against the stigma of video games causing real-world violence are probably very privy to the fact that causation doesn't work the way a lot of people seem to think it does. Nobody sound in the mind jerks off to torture porn and then creates a doom-cellar in their rec-room because of it.
I'm glad to see that SOMEONE is pointing out some things to these people, people so wrapped up in their own disgust that they don't really see the big picture.
If reminds forcibly of the oppression of the gays back in the 50's. Anyone who's ever seen a PSA called "Boys Beware" knows the general attitude. This PSA was a video essentially warning children against pedophiles, but it would confuse most of us today, as every time you might expect to hear the word "pedophile" you would hear "homosexual". Implying of course that back then, homosexuals and child-rapists were lumped into the same corner, and persecuted with equal hate.
You couldn't be "out" back then. To admit it was to ruin your life. And today, the same is true for pedosexuals. If revealed for what they are, they'll be announcing it to every neighbor by court-order and not be trusted around children, and probably not be allowed to care for children of their own.
So, who was going to stick their neck out to fight this?
I'm not saying you shouldn't feel weird about it, but after all, how can anyone understand another person's preferences? This would offer an alternative to satiate those who need it.
I would NEVER legalize REAL child porn, depending on your definition of child. I think as a society we still need to figure out things like age of consent , especially in light of what kids do as early as thirteen in the US, but if it isn't hurting anyone, then it's simple art, and should NOT be censored for what people fear others will do as a reaction to it. I took this stance about the Muhammad drawing issue, and I take it here.

not in some areas, like in my state California I believe if you're 18 and have sex with someone slightly under 18 you still get charged but the sentence is lessened instead of not being there at all like it should be. Then again my state is way too much of a nanny state (even though the people of this state are more libertarian than most believe it or not)
