• Goldfish recovering from high risk brain tumor operation.

my friend won a gold fish at the county fair. He didn't have anywhere to put it so we tossed it in our pond. We had other gold fish in there, and we sort of trained them. We had a metal rod in the ground that we'd hit with a horse shoe or something and they'd all swim to the surface. Also, they grew to be pretty big, at least 7 or 8 inches long. My parents tossed old cat food (we had a ton of out door cats at one point) and they went crazy for it. [sp]We were dissecting fish one day for Biology and we failed to catch our own, so we actually used a bucket to scoop up a few goldfish. The pond is like 20 ft deep. My teacher asked if we were sure we wanted to dissect a gold fish. I mean the thing was huge, but hey. He said it was the first time someone's done it. [/sp]
Don't goldfish live and grow to be ginormous, providing they have the space?
Depends on the type of goldfish.
Depends on the type of goldfish.
if we want to bring longevity into the equation too, some goldfish can live over a hundred years
Depends on the type of goldfish.
Thats not really a goldfish though.
Thats not really a goldfish though.
its gold and its a carp and that's what counts
Thats not really a goldfish though.

its gold and its a carp and that's what counts
aren't goldfish actually a type of carp anyways?
Don't goldfish live and grow to be ginormous, providing they have the space?
You're thinking koi
You're thinking koi
Goldfish can grow indefinitely given the correct circumstances. [editline]15th September 2014[/editline] My fat fuck goldfish ate all my other fish and grew too big for the tank we had for it.
At least 10-25 years if looked after REALLY well, 6 years if given average care.
Wow thats pretty cool. No wonder my fish (not goldfish though) didn't last long. Like, I don't remember them living past a month of something. Now that I think about it... Goddamn...
I could have lived without knowing that.
Goldfish are probably some of the most abused pets on the planet, they will live about 15-25 years if treated right. Usually though they're just put in tiny bowls without the necessary filtration required. Did you know it's possible to care about your pets, no matter what type they are? If any of my fish/shrimp die I'll be sad, not for long cause it's a pet. But I won't be like "Ah well it's just a small non-furry pet who cares!"
I was pretty torn up when my little Lisa died.
And yet, the operation to fix my dog's eyes is $3000 per eye. Vet prices are fucking weird.
Not really, considering all the vet had to do is administer anesthesia (very small inexpensive amount) and make a few incisions to take out the tumour.

He's the goddamn champion of that tank, he should have been given a beautiful gold-encrusted aquarium twice the size as a reward.
I think it's a sign of a slightly crazy person to be honest. Dogs and cats okay you can make an argument for, but a fish? Bit too attached there...
It's a living being too, what makes other animals more special than it?
What a waste.
aren't goldfish actually a type of carp anyways?
They're a specfic subspecies of carp
People here complaining about the cost yet I'm still amazed by the fact that surgery for fish is even a thing.
Some people would just do the craziest things for the ones they love. My girlfriend's cat was attacked by my brother's cat which left him with a gigantic gash on his leg, that would've led to him bleeding out if we didn't take him to the vet. That costs us $350 for them to stitch it up and control the bleeding. He's family, and I would've spent more if I could've for him. (which I did later after he had a string hanging out of his ass)
My cousin got a really fucked up disabled goldfish with like one fin when he was 3, and the fucker lived a good 11 years. Goldfish must be stopped.
All that talk about how big goldfishes can grow reminded me of that episode of Life with Louie
