I didn't read the entire thing, but it just sounds like they are either changing the phase of the em wave or they are playing with refraction and Snell's law?
This is incredibly sensationalist.
so wait, they can now send messages a tiny bit back in time, to themselves, thus making the ultimate doomsday weapon, send a message to yourself back in time telling you to not do the experiment and watch the fabric of time explode[citation needed]
Guarantee this is only a news story because the journalists have no idea what the fuck is going on. We've known phase velocities can travel faster than light for eons since they can't encode non-random information. This is nothing new.
"No, no lightspeeds too slow. We have to go straight to... LUDICROUS SPEED!"
Naw man, we've gone straight to Plaid.
Troll physics already figured out how faster light can be accomplished -
You're wrong, anyway. That would break the principle of relativity, because you could know how fast you were travelling, without reference to an outside frame, which isn't allowed in an inertial frame of reference.
Straight up never gonna happen, and even then it would just break every law of our universe, as such we have no idea because all we have to go by are our universal laws.
Herpaderpa.
You guys are absolutely dumb. Ok, you are a fucking photon with little photon eyes and a little fucking photon brain. What would your perception be like?
That's what I'm asking. I'm not asking to break any laws, only make an exception for the purpose of hypothesis. It isn't like a scientist wouldn't know anyways, since they got all the physics and shit, and can figure out what happens to space and time when you go at those speeds.
It doesn't matter anyways, because I googled it and got a better answer than you guys.
silly scientists. this is impossible.
next thing you know they're going to tell me that light interacts with its medium. pffffft. c is a constant value :downs:
I really hate science writers sometimes.
