It's not S.T.A.L.K.E.R., it's STALKER. It's a very important distinction, because they almost definitely don't have any rights to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. name. Even in the FAQ they have some bullshit excuse "it's stalker no periods hurrdurr"
The screws are a coincidence. Especially as their pretty much just saying "A few of us helped with S.T.A.L.K.E.R., give us money!" as if that's all they need to do (which with Areal, it almost was until people realized there was something wrong with it all).

Got excited when I saw the title, entered the thread and saw that same fucking concept art. Excitement ruined.
This crowdfunding method actually takes your money right away and you can't cancel or lower your pledge.
What if I don't reach my funding goal? Don't worry, it's not the end of the world! You still get to keep whatever funds that you raise, which is in stark contrast to other crowd-funding platforms. On WFUNDER, project creators get to keep whatever funds that they raise.

Once you make a pledge, you cannot cancel or lower your pledge, but you can increase your pledge. The reason we do this is because we feel that making a pledge to a crowd-funding project should be considered as a serious commitment, and not a split second decision. We want to provide an environment where both project creators and backers can have a secure and positive environment.
Can someone explain to me why this is bad? Like, the whole thing.
Can someone explain to me why this is bad? Like, the whole thing.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R is sacred
that logo is delightfully 90s
Can someone explain to me why this is bad? Like, the whole thing.
A few months ago the team created a Kickstarter for a game called Areal. Their kickstarter was pretty much just a collection of concept art, some of which was from S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and their video was entirely gameplay of other games (mainly S.T.A.L.K.E.R.), they had a terribly made site and stuff like that. A few people questioned them about the problems, and rather than just explaining everything, they basically went "we tried to answer, but the trolls!" when in actually they had just avoided the questions. They started claiming everyone who hated the game was a troll, i think they even said every gaming news site who said they were a scam was part of some conspiracy, it turned out several of their screenshots were from unity asset packs even though they said they were their own game, they'd claimed things which they didn't make were theirs etc. Things just kept getting worse. They just used "A few of us helped with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.!" to try to get money and then show off gameplay of that (rather than their own game, which is still pretty much non-existant). They even claimed Putin had liked their game and supported it. In the end their Kickstarter was shut down by Kickstarter due to so many problems with it. They also did stuff like this: This is a long thread but the last few pages show the problems: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=842819

You'd be surprised how many AAA devs share assets.
According to YouTube comments, one of the models was stolen from Battlefield 4.
They're definitely like that on purpose to get people to think it's actually S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Exactly, they know damn well what they're doing with the image and with the actual name. They make the distinction between S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and STALKER multiple times on the funding page. Hell, the first two sentences on the page do it: "STALKER Apoc. is a new blah blah made by ex-S.T.A.L.K.E.R. devs"
Nothing wrong with asset packs, the problem is they had nothing else. You'd be surprised how many AAA devs share assets.
Nothing wrong with using unity assets. There is something wrong with using screenshots from those asset packs and claming they are from your own game and you made them yourself, however.
I'm hearing now that not only is the project itself suspect, but that the entire crowdfunding site is something made by them.
It was nice to have hope again for a few seconds. Also ffs I used STALKER as abbreviation instead of writing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. all the time. Now I have to change my habits. Thanks for nothing West Games.
Nothing wrong with using unity assets. That's fucked up. At least move things around and make it look like your own thing.

I refuse to call this a successor to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. There will never be a sequel worth having that name.
I'm hearing now that not only is the project itself suspect, but that the entire crowdfunding site is something made by them.
AFAIK it is. I can't find anything on it anywhere.
I refuse to call this a successor to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. There will never be a sequel worth having that name.
Survarium is looking good.
So Areal and this aren't made by actual ex-STALKER devs but people who claim to be ex-STALKER devs?
Survarium is looking good.
It isn't S.T.A.L.K.E.R. though.
It isn't S.T.A.L.K.E.R. though.
Might as well be once freeplay comes out. I mean this is all speculation but based on the build I've been playing, it's definitely close.
So Areal and this aren't made by actual ex-STALKER devs but people who claim to be ex-STALKER devs?
No, they actually are ex.S.T.A.L.K.E.R devs as in they were in some way involved with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series (some of them at least). Ignore that and look at all the other problems though, there's plenty of bad things.
No, they actually are ex.S.T.A.L.K.E.R devs as in they were in some way involved with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series (some of them at least). Ignore that and look at all the other problems though, there's plenty of bad things.
I believe some intern touched a line of code once and now they're able to claim "FROM THE DEVELOPERS OF STALKER SHADOWS OF CHERNOBYL" in their advertising. It's a shame they're allowed to do that legally.
Might as well be once freeplay comes out. I mean this is all speculation but based on the build I've been playing, it's definitely close.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a singleplayer FPS, Survarium an MMO. It is not going to be the same thing, no matter how you put it. There won't be the same extent of modding support, there won't be the same moments of isolation, and the simple fact, that it is a multiplayer title, makes it possible for others to ruin you immersion and experience.
No, they actually are ex.S.T.A.L.K.E.R devs as in they were in some way involved with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series (some of them at least). Ignore that and look at all the other problems though, there's plenty of bad things.
Ah, that sucks to know.
Then who is Vostok Games?
Shadow of Chernobyl was developed for 7 years, and went through developer hell. There were hundreds of people working on that game over the years
Ah. Then who is Vostok Games? It's also made by people who left GSC Game World, in fact this is on wikipedia, under S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 (Cancelled). "The former S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 team has reported that they are opening a new studio, Vostok Games, to create a free-to-play MMOFPS, called Survarium, in the spirit of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise, using ideas they created for the cancelled sequel." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.T.A.L.K.E.R._%28series%29#S.T.A.L.K.E.R._2_.28cancelled.29 So if the ex-STALKER devs did leave and make West Games...then who is working on Survarium?
A few of them went on to make Vostok games, and a few left eventually made another team which then became West Games. Out of the two i think Vostok games in the more 'legit' as such when they say they are ex-S.T.A.L.K.E.R. devs, even though that is also true of some of the West Games members. Survarium is multiplayer focused, however. I haven't even played the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games yet but i paid attention to what was going on with Areal, as i do have an interest in that sort of game.
