Artists that have dropped this year: Kendrick Lamar Drake Lupe Fiasco Action Bronson Earl Sweatshirt Joey Badass Big Sean Wale Ghostface & BBNG Death Grips (if you consider them hip-hop) Probably forgetting a handful, but those are the biggest ones I think.
Drake's already platinum after 2 months with arguably his most confident album yet (even though it's basically a throwaway mixtape) - last year had zero platinum hip-hop albums. Kendrick's already gold and one of the highest critically-reviewed hip-hop albums in a very long time, right next to MBDTF. If you're counting the Grammy's review period, you can throw 2014FHD by J. Cole in the mix, which is another phenomenal album. Throw in some media drama with Lil Wayne v. Cash Money and Tyga v. absolutely everybody, and you have a pretty exciting year. Upcoming hip-hop releases? Hot damn, get excited. So many sequels to classic albums and other huge-name albums coming out. Tyler, the Creator - Cherry Bomb (in a few days) Kanye West - So Help Me God (holy fuck yes) At.Long.Last.A$AP - A$AP Rocky (guaranteed to sell well) Rodeo - Travi$ Scott (because who doesn't like a hype cudi + kanye) Flockaveli 2 - Waka Flocka Flame (plz be as good as flockaveli) Tha Carter V - Lil Wayne (probably not as good as III or IV) Tha Carter VI - Young Thug (because young thug is awesome) Speedin' Bullet to Heaven - Kid Cudi (why not MOTM3 cudi pls) King Push - Pusha T (hell to the fuck yes) The Documentary 2 - The Game (probably not as good as The Documentary) Surf - Chance the Rapper/SoX (released tracks are great so far) Act II: Patents of Nobility - Jay Electronica (also coming 2015 is detox) It's All a Matter of Perspective - Flatbush Zombies (beast coast best coast) Plus we're expecting untitled albums from Big Boi, Mac Miller, Nas, Jay Rock, plenty of Young Thug/RHQ/rich gang collabs if you're into that, an Aesop Rock/Blueprint collab, ANOTHER Ghostface record, a new tech n9ne album... It's going to be a massive year for hip-hop sales compared to the drought that was last year. We have pop powerhouses like Flo Rida and Jason Derulo coming back and undoubtedly selling incredibly well and dominating the radio, plus favorites of the genre like Kanye dropping incredibly hyped albums. Not to mention the fact that the "drop out of absolutely nowhere" tactic is becoming so common that you can expect this list to double from unexpected mixtapes and albums coming out of the blue. Not to mention Drake's almost definitely going to drop a second fucking album at the end of the year, and that's also guaranteed to go plat in ~2 months. It's going to be fucking incredible. It already is incredible.
I've listened to it about 2 or 3 times and I just still can't get in the "Man I want to listen to the album today." Will agree that he's a great lyricist in it but I just finding it a little harder to groove with. Juicy J is coming out with T.H.C. in July I believe, on the upcoming albums note
Have to agree, feel like I have to get in to the mood to listen to the album in one sitting, the story it tells is pretty moving [sp]Especially when you hear the ending of Mortal Man[/sp] But listening to separate songs like Alright, King Kunta and i are the only ones that are straight accessible on a shuffle playlist.
I have yet to hear earls new stuff, so i'll check it out.
Earl's new album is raaaaad
Sounds like throwaway N.E.R.D. tracks, I'll pass
Here's Smuckers, pretty great. http://www.audiomack.com/song/rapxclusive/smuckers-1 [editline]13th April 2015[/editline] I didn't notice the album came out, sorry.
Not seeing any punk influence so far I'm guessing he's not gonna get heavy in this?
It's good, I like it but honestly I am digging Earl's new album more than this [editline]14th April 2015[/editline] I actually started taking a liking to deathcamp

Earl's album was way more stylistically cohesive, though. This album is all over the place.
Pilot is awesome though. Whole album is pretty awesome.
Smuckers. damn.
a lot of good tunes on this album, really liking how it is experimental too.
