Fast startup breaks for me like 80% of the time even on UEFI, "windows shut down unexpectedly" shows up in the log when it does. I haven't noticed any other side effects though.

so what you're basically suggesting is Microsoft should collaborate with Google for this?

Windows 8 as an operating system was pretty impressive, they just decided to stick some utterly moronic interface on the top of it.

We've hadn't had a Windows Vista situation in nearly 10 years.
My only issue with windows 10 so far is they haven't fixed the DX9 VRAM bug yet
No mater what, in windows 8 and 10, you are limited to 4GB of VRAM in all DX9 programs

Wasnt there a thread just last week discussing this? The 4Gb limit is due to 32bit programs or something? Not sure if its the same thing or not

It's the exact same thing. :v: It mathematically impossible for 32 bit programs to ever address more than 4 GB of RAM period. And AFAIK, 64 bit DX9 was a rarity. Not that they don't exist, but most games had already transitioned to DX10 at least by that point.

in all curiosity, what kind of game requires more than 4gb of video memory that still uses directx 9?
am I misunderstanding something?

It might come into play when playing those games at super high resolutions, but honestly even then, it's probably fine
If any of you Linux people want something like this too, look into KDE connect. If you're lucky your distro won't present you with 20 pages of dependencies. You can also connect to your desktop with it too which is pretty neat.
I don't think they ported the desktop version to Plasma 5 yet, have they?
