[del]It's launching THIS AFTERNOON as a Steam Client beta.[/del]
Post was made yesterday, seeing we didn't see anything pop up yesterday it's highly likely it'll be launched today anyways.
If you believe that just go hang yourself. You clearly aren't capable of rational thought in such a simple circumstance.
If it's hyperbole, just stop posting. This forum has enough shitheels with EA hate boners going on about it every thread.
If it's a joke, it's a pretty shit joke. Perhaps if EA were actually scamming the fuck out of us it'd be funny, but compared to some other companies, and some of their history, they're pretty half-decent right now.
This shit stopped being funny when it started.
You're being defensive.
Why not market out Source like UDK?

I think they sort of do, but not in such a public way as Unreal does it.
Update probably going through right now. CDR records have started appearing.

Oh, cool. Only one week late, that's pretty good for Valve
It's nice to know that everything you buy follows you via your Steam account, forever.
Forever and ever....
It would be cool for Steam to be the base of a computer. If you can do it all from one proggamme its simple and easy and that's what people want.

Ermm, no. Choice is a big deal. I don't want to be locked down to one specific platform.

Especially a program with such unreliability as Steam, which seems to want to drop connectivity from time to time to test your patience or something. (Funny that the store page still stays up by itself though..)
Never buying something like an office product through steam.
Not unless it comes without the steam DRM. As a standalone bit for my games, and providing functionality for achievements and related crap, fine, but I need to be able to go into a completely offline environment at the drop of a hat, with no notification, and I need my work related tools to maintain full functionality in all situations.
Steam has failed numerous times on this account alone, and that's not even including being tied to what amounts to a third party service.
offline mode works fine
why is every single Steam thread a big fucking argument about offline mode
why is every single Steam thread a big fucking argument about offline mode
Because it's the feature that gives people the most trouble. I personally have never gotten steam to work offline.
offline mode works fine
Bullshit.
It works fine on some devices, with no rhyme or reason as to which ones. On my laptop I've never had a problem with it. I've had problems with it intermittently when updates for games were required on other machines. That alone is enough to make me never want steam associated with anything. Windows update will patiently sit there for days if I'm in the middle of something, and my applications, even ones that update through that utility will continue to function unless my computer itself becomes compromised.
On a desktop I have in the house offline mode has never worked, regardless of different OS installs, different hard drives, different everything. I've even put an archaic Ethernet card in and tried that. Nothing works. Short of replacing the motherboard, which I'm not going to do for a P4 machine, I've literally swapped everything but the power supply and the case itself. I even changed the processor when I got my hands on a faster one.
I thought they fixed offline mode last update?
I thought they fixed offline mode last update?
They improved it a few updates back, yes.
Also looks like the software update wasn't happening at all, just one record was made public for some reason. :(
Back to idling mode.

The ultimate Non-Intrusive DRM that consumers are ok with.
I honestly can't think of anything I don't like about Steam, and not because I'm a fanboy; it has dramatically improved over the past few years.
This is awesome
Oooh, PCmark Vantage. Pretty awesome stuff. Looking forward to bigger stuff like Photoshop or something.
Is it confirmed that you need to have Steam on to launch these apps, or that you can't launch an app and a game?
