oh yes I'd love variety. But as someone who took awhile to pick a phone for an overdue upgrade I can say personally variety between Android phones is almost daunting, plus i've had bad experiences with Android (using a Droid 2 with Liberty ROM.) hoping ICS fixes a lot of shit.

I've had bad experiences with Android, I still can't get over its atrocious frame rate. I like iPhone because when you ask yourself, which one do you buy, you don't have to choose between all these features, qwerty keyboard, faster processor, bigger amounts of ram, dual core, screen size, screen resolution, battery,form factor... The list goes on. This is one of the biggest things that irk me as a programmer for it too. For me, the iPhone is the perfect size, has enough power, an excellent camera, excellent applications, and a UI that has no comparison. It's really an easy choice.

As the iPad 2 has demonstrated, it isn't even worth the upgrade. the 1ghz processor was fine. no one is using the dual core compatibility.

Got an iPhone 3GS and I don't think this phone warrants an upgrade. I would rather take a cheap contract now and buy the iPhone 5 (6) when it comes out.

yeah once I saw the kind of games my iPod could run it was clear they packed some serious tech into the A4 chipset.
I just hate this whole dual-core fad for phones - multithreading is something I use on a desktop which is capable and easier to use for more advanced things, a tablet I'm okay with dual core stuff, but I've never seen it offer anything for phones past bragging rights.

They always have something to bitch about, iDevices are just fine in hardware and software and there always will be hate, but there are lots of proof screen showing that the iPhone 4S (iPad 2) are faster then the Samsung Galaxy 2 but they don't care about this of course...
There's just going to be a new one before people even realize it and they're going to gobble that one up too. Just like everything else, because they want it and they need it. Here's a tip: don't spend your money on shit like this. Who gives a damn what kind of phone you have or what kind of tasks you can do with it. Or the fact that its a few notches better than the last. Personally I'd be much more inclined to buy something if it was legions beyond what I'm using now, of course that's only if I actually gave a fuck. But I don't. Ok and apple is just releasing more physical updates of there phone then other companys. They make big changes which they have and release a new phone. The fucking hardware in the Iphone 4S is amazing. There R&D team is pushing it completely forcing other companys to catch the fuck up. The software is being added to previous iphones (4/3gs).
Artificially low stock is a classic marketing strategy.

to catch up would imply they are now pretty much equal, whereas they blew them out of the water with the 4s
