Siri is phenomenal when it comes to mobile voice recognition. And the camera and video quality of the device is much improved since the 4.
But yeah, it's still just an iPhone.
I'm not in any hurry to upgrade, My 3GS does what I need it to. Looks nice though.

Yeah SIRI is the only thing I really like about the latest update (But it's a software update, it has nothing to do with Iphone 4s)
I don't like the fact that Apple says they have created the AI. It is still just a good system of voice recognition, but all Apple fanatics will believe it and start shouting that the Iphones now dominate everything because of that
I have an iPhone 4, so I personally don't see much of a reason to upgrade. But that doesn't mean that nobody else does.

8MP camera's have been out on SE and Nokia phones years prior, they even put out 12MP cameras on their phones 2 years ago now. The only new thing is SIRI everything else is old hardware.

Only reason that I might get the 4s. Is because I need the 64gig memory, Other than that, I'm happy with my Iphone 4

I am not saying the iPhone 4S has a DSLR quality camera, the sensor is way too small to even match up closely to one, but for what it is, a phone, it is brilliant.

Yeah, the processor they researched and developed by buying a >6 month old processor from Samsung is really pushing technology forward. It will be a while until anyone but Apple has them. What else did they upgrade?
I think some of you are misinterpreting what purpose the iPhone has. Android phones are great for power users but for someone who needs something simple and aesthetically appealing, the iPhone is perfect for them. As Android is becoming a better software platform more people are switching, sure, but for things like removable battery, SD card support, those are things the average Joe doesn't care about. If you view the SGSII and the iPhone 4S from a hardware perspective they're very alike, but the allure of the iPhone 4S is the OOB user experience that's ready to go when they power it on and pop a SIM card in. In my experience Android phones, while they work out of the box, some have an awful OOB experience (coughMOTOBLURcough).
So, yes, better alternatives exist, but keep in mind we're all technologically adept here. Most of us don't want simple in our phones, we want the power user experience. Some people prefer the simpler stuff.

The time between iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S was 467 days.
The time between iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 was 381 days.
The time between iPad 1 and iPad 2 was 342 days.
And how cheap the original became? I'm pretty sure that in the early days, Apple stopped selling the last version of the iPhone. I don't think the "original iPhone" was sold after the 2. generation. Unlike now, where we still have the 3GS and 4 being sold, which is understandable since they still work wonderfully with the newest version of iOS.

Older hardware generally becomes more polished as time goes, SE and Nokia had a bunch of time to polish their phone's camera apple just threw out a higher MP camera to throw everyone off.
