And any of the other powerful lasers out today couldn't do this? This laser is like when people buy oversized guns/machineguns for the sake of it
I wouldn't even consider this if the price wasn't good. Its like shopping for PC parts. You could go for X but Y is much better and at the same/lower price or just 10-20 bucks more. I am not doing it for the durr hurr or the bandwagon or whatever is going on in your mind. I like lasers, and like any sensible person, would never use it against anyone or use it for any bad reason.
I'm sorry if I might have been a little harsh, I was just trying to prove the point that a high powered laser is no different from any other device, in that it's only dangerous if intentionally being used maliciously or if the user is incompetent. I'm sorry mate. :frown:
I think the main point people are trying to make is that there ARE people who will buy these purely for malicious intent.
Yeah, giving kids access to dangerous lasers is realy a good idea. I know, you guys can handle theses things, but imagine a soccer mom buying her 12 year old brat one of those. He could blind his whole class! I think they should be 18+ only.
We will use these to take out the governments nuke stopping deathstar! Use the force luuuuke

A soccer mom would instead rally a group of more soccer moms/dads and try to ban this (as well as other crap) by spouting stupidity because they don't want to take up the responsibility as a parent to say "No" to their child.
This is not a weapon. You can't really defend yourself from an agression with it.
Anything that can instantly blind a target, I'd say, is a pretty good defense.
Hey guys, check the source in the OP. We're famous.
News of the laser has sparked a flurry of excitement on social networking websites. One person wrote: "Real lasers that resemble Star Wars lightsabres, that can burn skin, cut through plastic and ignite matches - yes please." Another wrote: "The fact that it looks like a lightsabre is even cooler." One more said: "I must have this. Birthday present anyone? I will KILL things, with FIRE." Christine Heemskerk, lead officer for product safety at the Trading Standards Institute (TSI), said the items should not be on sale to the general public.
Oh shit. That last comment obviously wasn't serious, but oh fuck...
Oh shit. That last comment obviously wasn't serious, but oh fuck...
You know how those news people don't understand what child stupidity is. They take everything as fact.
I don't care where it comes from, but some people are taking it seriously... :argh:
It's spelled Lightsaber Not like Light+Sabre Firefox spell check isn't convinced apparently
I don't care where it comes from, but some people are taking it seriously... :argh:
Its a shame really. Luckily they can't do squat about it. The only thing they can do is raise awareness but unfortunately that would lead to more people knowing of this (and more stupid children and overzealous star wars fans ogling over it) which inevitably leads to swift government action to prohibit this in states and blah blah blah.
Putting this in newspapers is the stupidest thing people can do to prevent sale of this. It's free advertising. I do know the danger, and i don't want 10 year olds to get their hands on it. But I still want one myself.
Honestly just make it a dick and a half to obtain. There's a reason you don't see lil' Jimmy Sprinkles running down the street with a MP44 busting in doors reenacting his last game of DoD:S. If enthusiasts want to purchase one and go through the legal hurdles to get one they will, but don't make it like ordering something out of the back of an old comic book plus some liability forms. There's smarter ways of dealing with this than simply banning it outright.
I just hope it arrives before the 3 month warranty runs out.. Wickedlasers probably haven't planned that so many people would buy this at the same time..
Lasers are becoming more and more powerful, in the end it'll be illegal to point it downwards or it'll cut the earth in half.
But at that point they wont be available online They will be implanted to planet-sized space stations.
The chances of a thirteen year old ever coming into contact with something as expensive and incredibly illegal as this are near zero
You underestimate the whining, nagging and misleading powers of 13-year old when they're asking their parents to buy something. Besides, he or his friends might order it himself using someone's credit card from the internets. If I knew that one of my friends had bought one of those I'd never go close to him ever again. Who knows if he carries that thing around and thinks it's funny to mess with people after a few beers.
I want one. Seriously, Instantly blind someone?
I want one. Seriously, Instantly blind someone?
this is an example of someone who should not own this and everyone else is all batshit about people who are responsible buying it
I want one. Seriously, Instantly blind someone?
I want to buy a gun because I want to kill people quickly Also I am socially awkward
I want one. Seriously, Instantly blind someone?
That's NOT what it's supposed to be used for. Saying stuff like that is not very smart. [editline]01:05PM[/editline] Also, this may be good news for some: Due to the low cost of the diodes, these lasers are being sold for cheap. But this is an introduction price, and the price will most likely go up to the price of an 300mW green one. (1000$+) (Though this isn't confirmed.) Now this will most likely stop a lot of 10 year olds from buying it.
Couldn't you use a bunch of mirrors to focus a bunch of these into one deathbeam?
Couldn't you use a bunch of mirrors to focus a bunch of these into one deathbeam?
No, you would have to adjust angle for distance, unless it's stationary, which would be pointless. And wtf is a deathbeam
What I want to know is, what is its intended use? What would you even do with such a powerful laser?
But at that point they wont be available online They will be implanted to planet-sized space stations.
I think you mean, 'moon sized' space stations.
No, you would have to adjust angle for distance, unless it's stationary, which would be pointless. And wtf is a deathbeam
How about a lens?
One more said: "I must have this. Birthday present anyone? I will KILL things, with FIRE." Please no
Good. They have returned the weapon of a more civilized age to replace the clumsy rifle. I sensed this coming. [editline]10:54AM[/editline]
What I want to know is, what is its intended use? What would you even do with such a powerful laser?
Light cigarettes.
What I want to know is, what is its intended use? What would you even do with such a powerful laser?
Point at stars. No really that's one of their supposed uses, also cutting through skin, and once you accidentally do that you can then reseal it with one of their lasers, not sure if its this one though. I admit I would buy one of them for that purpose, would be good for a first aid kit in case you impaled yourself on something and had to seal it off to stop the bleeding. :v:
Seriously need a video of this in action. [editline]05:32PM[/editline]
I want one. Seriously, Instantly blind someone?
Seriously, set people alight?
