Canadian athletes at Canada House in Sochi got a surprise visit from Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday, who posed for photos – and made a few sly remarks about our hockey team.
Women's hockey team forward Hayley Wickenheiser tweeted that Putin wished Team Canada luck – except on the hockey ice.
Claire Hanna, a player with the Canadian national volleyball team, posted a video clip to YouTube of what Putin said next to athletes, coaches and families.
“Let us wish to meet our hockey teams in the final, in hockey,” the president said by way of an English-Russian translator. “And together we’ll enjoy their heart and their courage."
Judging from Wickenheiser’s shot and Hanna's video, it seems that Marcel Aubut, the head of the Canadian Olympic Committee, offered Putin a pair of Canadian Olympic Foundation red mittens before he went on his way.
Earlier in the day, Putin stopped by USA House...
Putin has been enjoying himself making surprise visits to national houses all week. Earlier this week, he stopped in at Austria House, and visited Holland House, where he offered a hug to 3,000-metre speedskating winner, Ireen Wust.
“I got a cuddle from him,” Wust said, according to ABC News. “He congratulated me and asked if everything was OK in Russia and I congratulated him on (Russian speedskater) Olga Graf, of course, for her third place (in the 3,000 metres).”

Russia's hockey team is so pumped up its ridiculous
You still can't stop thinking about what happens in Vancouver 2010, can you?
Don't worry guys. Us Canadians are good at two things: Hockey, and Rioting due to Hockey. :v:

and then cleaning up what you guys break
Pfft, like we need luck in hockey.
Russia's probably going to get gold. They have some of the best players in the world on their team and have a home ice advantage. As much as I hope Canada wins, I don't think we'll get gold. Probably silver.

TRAITOR! No maple syrup for you
You still can't stop thinking about what happens in Vancouver 2010, can you?
How could they?
What was it, 7-3 we defeated them in Vancouver?
I think it means more of a home crowd advantage than literally the ice itself.
I never understood the home ice advantage thing, isn't a rink a rink?
Its kind of a psychological "home" kind of thing. It's your home turf, and the people from your country cheering you on.
I never understood the home ice advantage thing, isn't a rink a rink?
Not at all. Ever heard of morale? Morale lowers when 20,000 people are cheering for you to get brutally slaughtered. Likewise, morale rises when 20,000 people are cheering for you to do the slaughtering.
I never understood the home ice advantage thing, isn't a rink a rink?
It was some marketing thing where it's our home land and we're gonna destroy everyone because we had more time in the place to practice, blah blah just something to pump up us Canadians and increase our maple syrup intake.
I never understood the home ice advantage thing, isn't a rink a rink?
The NHL rink size is much smaller than the international Olympic size. European players would be more used to the big ice. Not to mention that Canada's bread and butter is physical grinding hockey, whereas the big ice puts more of a focus on skating and passing. Then again though, the top European players have been playing on NHL sized ice for the majority of their pro careers so it shouldn't be TOO big of a factor.
canada will totally kick eveeryones ass, we have great players
The U.S. and Russia are the only competitors to Canada.

You have the crowd, you have the pressure and you know the rink. It's your home ice. Plus, Russia's rink is a full size Olympic rink, it's a few meters bigger than a NHL rink(For example GMC Arena from Vancouver 2010). So they know how to exploit those extra meters better than the Canadians.

Nobodies gonna win. The arena's gonna fall apart during the game.
What I wonder is, did they make fighting legal in the olympic rules ? It's so hilarious to watch two players remove their gloves and start punching each other with everyone just watching for a couple minutes.
Isn't the olympics woman's hockey just a competition to see who will lose to Canada?

And to watch the Americans cry?
That time when Canada has been so self-confident of their victory that they had to bribe the referees to win.
They lost anyway, lol.

I hope you're happy with what you've done.

Well, there's Finland down. Onward, Canada.
Well, atleast WE got Slovakia down and made a decent impression on the others.
Also a must post of Conan O`Brian joke on our Tina Maze:
