Respect what? Her son's mental illness? You're not supposed to indulge those fantasies, you're supposed to treat them.
By respecting them and calling them by their proper pronouns and name, and eventually, getting them HRT and allowing them to live as a woman. That's the treatment for transgender people. Anything else is barbaric and akin to gay conversion camps.
People refuse to accept the fact that being trans is the result of a brain... thing (not sure what to call it) and is not a choice, much the same way as being gay or bi or asexual or a million other identities. Exactly how they choose to express themselves is the choice, not the act of being trans. But that's also tricky because some people have it worse than others and won't be happy with anything less than a full transition. Others are okay with less. It's all a question of how severe it is.
Tumblr doesn't really help that though, with everyone saying they're burgerkin, or some other shit. I feel it makes the actual genders and sexuality.. well whats the word. Fuck, I can't think of how I need to finish this, but you get the idea.
I like to quote 1 Timothy 5:8 to any Christian who disowns a family member for being transgender/gay/whatever.
Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever
let me ask a question to the members of this forum: how can you possibly have a moral compass without religion? a lot of you here seem to be 'a theists'.
We need to keep in mind that our enemy in the trans rights movement is not a villain. She's a human being. She's a human being raised with "good Christian values" and she's acting on the authority of those values. It's our duty not to dismiss these types of people as hateful bigots (even though they are), but to educate them. If we don't teach them, how will they learn? They're convinced that whatever they believe is right and just, they don't actively know they're being terrible. I feel like I'm having a hard time wording this properly. Do you get what I'm trying to say?
I get what you're trying to say, but some people have no hope. I'm sure her daughter tried to convince her and look how that turned out. I agree with the sentiment, but some people are so hard-stuck into their bigotry that nothing will change their mind.
It's most likely at these parents did the best they could with what they knew, but that doesn't make their actions any less monstrous for driving their daughter to suicide. It's still terrifying that these sequences of events were allowed to happen, and it's scary to all hell that EVEN bigots with good intentions can do horrible things and not notice what they did wrong.
This is what I've been trying to say. Thank you.
let me ask a question to the members of this forum: how can you possibly have a moral compass without religion? a lot of you here seem to be 'a theists'.
Can we please not make this thread about this.
let me ask a question to the members of this forum: how can you possibly have a moral compass without religion? a lot of you here seem to be 'a theists'.
I'm Catholic actually. Nothing wrong with an open mind. Not to mention the bible never said anything reguarding hating those who are born as the wrong sex, or homosexuality is a sin. It never even implied that either. In fact, there was a few homosexual things in the bible. I can't really remember what exactly, but it's there.

[editline]30th December 2014[/editline]
Like you.
Lol, the "You're a bigot for hating bigots!!!!" argument never works dude Hating people for having shitty opinions is not the same as hating people for being gay/trans/whatever You can change your opinion, you can't change your gender or sexuality
It de-legitimizes the actual, medically proven nature of Trans people and turns it into a fashionable handbag for moronic 14 year olds who want to be special.
Thank you. My mind was drawing blanks. I hate that shit.

(User was banned for this post ("Trolling" - SteveUK))
You're a bigot because you don't care about understanding others and only want to establish the moral high ground.
I understand bigots, I just think they're fucking morons. I don't need to take a class on bigotry to know they're shitty assholes who shouldn't be taken seriously.
let me ask a question to the members of this forum: how can you possibly have a moral compass without religion? a lot of you here seem to be 'a theists'.
the cognitive capacity for reason, genetic sense of morality (many species survive better in cooperative packs), and inherent neurological sense of empathy that had driven theologians and philosophers to pen their interpretations of reality and the origin thereof for the past few millenia.
You're a bigot because you don't care about understanding others and only want to establish the moral high ground.
It's possible to understand someone else's opinion and still be totally against it. That's the key to successful argument.
It de-legitimizes the actual, medically proven nature of Trans people and turns it into a fashionable handbag for moronic 14 year olds who want to be special.
It's not like it's exactly unique to trans-gender issues. It's pretty much psychological hypochondria. A lot of people gonna hop onto the idea that they have an issue when they actually don't, or it's a different issue they aren't correctly understanding. What's important is that you cannot just dismiss a single one case with this, because if you get it wrong, you just refused to treat a person with an actual problem. It's why going "oh you are just a tumblr burgerite" is as wrong as telling somebody who has pains and suspects a tumor to just go and sleep it off.
I understand bigots, I just think they're fucking morons. I don't need to take a class on bigotry to know they're shitty assholes who shouldn't be taken seriously.
to attack someone with hatred, regardless of their shitty opinions, is to fail to change the ideas that they hold in future generations. when you act like a dick, they shy away and quietly build up a compounding victim complex that helps sustain a nucleus of hatred for a much longer period. the best way to respond to bigotry is with reason and argument, nothing more and nothing less. i understand the reasons behind becoming emotionally invested, but to do so runs the risk of losing rational discourse in favor of sentiment.
let me ask a question to the members of this forum: how can you possibly have a moral compass without religion? a lot of you here seem to be 'a theists'.
By using common sense? Its wrong to steal, hurt, abuse, rape, or kill your fellow man.
It's possible to understand someone else's opinion and still be totally against it. That's the key to successful argument.
Exactly this I understand bigots opinions, they think LGBTQ people are freaks, mentally ill, deluded, things like that, and it's fucking stupid because this shit has been proven time and time again that it's actual real things hell, trans people have physically different brains, more similar to the gender they identify as then the sex of their body Bigots ignore all this and just spout "FUCKING TRANNY FAGGOT SCUM". Sgman, can you explain why I should have any respect for that kind of hatred?
By using common sense? Its wrong to steal, hurt, abuse, rape, or kill your fellow man.
The golden rule is a good basis of any moral compass. Do/Don't do to others you do/don't want to be done to you.
It's possible to understand someone else's opinion and still be totally against it. That's the key to successful argument.
I agree completely, but he's shown time and time to again that he doesn't understand it at all. He literally thinks that the mother is so evil that she doesn't feel any grief from her child committing suicide. Also good to note is that it's possible to disagree and fight against something while not hating the person holding the position. I've personally never seen hate lead to a better world at any point in time. Instead, understand the people and work to inform them.
You can change your opinion, you can't change your gender or sexuality
Why is that? Aren't opinions, gender and sexuality all mental processes based on one's personal experiences and brain chemistry?
I hope there's some peace for her. My situation isn't much different and I know similar to what she must have gone through.
I agree completely, but he's shown time and time to again that he doesn't understand it at all. Instead, understand the people and work to inform them.
You're the only one here who's used the word evil to describe her bucko All I've said is she seems like a real shitty lady who continues to disrespect her dead child, and based on how she talks about her after her death, doesn't really seem to be remorseful or sad. [editline]30th December 2014[/editline]
Why is that? Aren't opinions, gender and sexuality all mental processes based on one's personal experiences and brain chemistry?
Are you seriously asking me this? Ok, you're now a woman and you like the same sex. Go on, just tell yourself that, working on that logic it'll work, right?
Honestly, how can people who think like this call themselves open minded? What you really mean is that you're right and everyone else is either a completely idiot and/or evil. You're no different from those you hate. We have a mother who just lost her child to suicide. I don't know if there's anything more tragic and depressing than to have the child that you bore and rose think that their life isn't worth living anymore so intensely that they end it, and all you have to say is, "Oh, she's probably so evil that she doesn't even feel grief." Can you be more callous and close minded? Dumb me all you want. I couldn't care less, but don't pretend that you have any desire to understand the point of view of others. All you care about is making sure that everyone knows how much better of a person you are.
A loving parent wouldn't reject their child while their alive.
A loving parent wouldn't reject their child while their alive.
If you look on the exact same page I agreed that the parents didn't treat her with love.
Are you seriously asking me this? Ok, you're now a woman and you like the same sex. Go on, just tell yourself that, working on that logic it'll work, right?
OK, now you're a conservative that likes fox news. That argument doesn't make any sense.
Last time I checked, Bible said NOTHING about genders and why they should be strictly boy or girl. SO if anybody knows if it does say something, let me know, because until then, I will hold a right to call bullshit on everything some dunderheads say about genders and religion in any context.
