Welcome! Welcome to City Changsha! It's safer here.
When you really think about it, building buildings is so much more efficient that way. I mean 95% of the structure is pre-fabricated. That means they can quite easily make up the modules for it, they have cnc machines and other equipment that could not be used on site, all they need after that is a crane. Every building should be built this way.
Come on America, step it up!
And how much of the building will actually be put to use?
And how much of the building will actually be put to use?

The structure will be able to house 31,400 people of both "high and low income communities". The company says that the residential area will use 83-percent of the building, while the rest will be offices, schools, hospitals, shops and restaurants. People will move up and down using 104 high speed elevators.
Considering it's going to be the tallest building in the world, I'm sure they can find companies and people moving in.
And how much of the building will actually be put to use?
Well Changsha has 7 million inhabitants and has existed for 3000 years. I don't think anyone is moving anywhere soon. Bet loads of people would love to be in that building.
I wouldn't be surprised if they are pumping parts of their buildings from factories all at once
Would be amazing if they actually pulled it off.
But isn't it partially also because they have a shitload of workers and don't have the same safety regulations other countries have?
They should have a livestream of the construction site. I always like to watch construction workers building towers whenever I'm downtown, but the process is always so slow you never really notice change. Imagine watching a livestream for awhile, and then leaving it only to come back to 3-4 more stories added. Would be fun to watch.

I wonder how safe it is though
So are they going to glue the pieces together or something?
They're using modular tech. Think of it as a bit like lego with really really strong supports between the bricks.
"worlds tallest building" doesn't seem like a project one would want to rush.
I don't think it's being as rushed as they make out. While the actual construction will be done in 90 days, the building has probably been prebuilt long before.
I imagined myself doing some kind of relaxing ativity on those garden-like places there, would be rad
Smoking a joint up on one of those gardens would be amazing
Finally a proper fucking skyscraper and not architect crying "I regret I didn't pick arts career and sculpting!".
I disagree, does seem a bit artsy. They could've gone with a simple rectangle but it's shrinking squares. Well maybe not due to weight issues but it still's not just a basic skyscraper.
Funny, Changsha in mandarin chinese literally translates to "long down".
City planners have been deciding where to put this building for generations, it would seem.

It's gonna be a Changsha if you fall off.

THERE'S NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR THAT BUILDING

IT WILL BE HIGH WHEN IT IS DONE
And this is how the Pangu was achievable in Dues Ex!

The translation of 长沙 is more like "long [duration] sand" fyi
I mean, for example Burj is not that bad either, but all the designs like

are fucking horrible.
I'd honestly hate to be in there. Looks like the floors are sloped.
I wonder how safe it is though
Probably decent.
I mean, it's not like North korea, where they let it rust for 30 years.

The floors would be level, just the outer walls would be all wonky.
This is some Diamond Age magic.
We need compilers, 90 days isn't fast enough. :v:
I just wonder how the hell will they install electricity and air conditioning into 5 FLOORS IN A DAY.
Do they have a shitfuckton of workers?
[editline]20th November 2012[/editline]
"Yeah bro, i live in the floor 182, room 332. You have to take the stairs though, the elevator is out."
I don't trust anything made in China to begin with, and they're going to build the world's tallest building in 90 days? That's 2 and a half floors a day, even though the article says 5, as if the Chinese can't count or do get days off
No Thanks
That's some next level stuff
Damn those pinko commies! They're always outdoing us with their superior engineering and intellects.

Why did they use the Chicago Skyline for the image, Kinda silly since the perspective makes me think that's not at all to scale.
Imagine a large scale 3d printer which builds the prefab modules, then add it to this construction speeds.. huge cities could be made withing months, efficiently and well planned.
That building will have the mother of all Chinese fire drills.
