Ebola virus (EBOV) is considered one of the most aggressive infectious agents and is capable of causing death in humans and nonhuman primates (NHPs) within days of exposure. Recent strategies have succeeded in preventing acquisition of infection in NHPs after treatment; however, these strategies are only successful when administered before or minutes after infection. The present work shows that a combination of three neutralizing monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) directed against the Ebola envelope glycoprotein (GP) resulted in complete survival (four of four cynomolgus macaques) with no apparent side effects when three doses were administered 3 days apart beginning at 24 hours after a lethal challenge with EBOV. The same treatment initiated 48 hours after lethal challenge with EBOV resulted in two of four cynomolgus macaques fully recovering. The survivors demonstrated an EBOV-GP–specific humoral and cell-mediated immune response. These data highlight the important role of antibodies to control EBOV replication in vivo, and support the use of mAbs against a severe filovirus infection. Good, Ebola is such a horrible disease. If I knew that I had Ebola, I would probably kill myself than let the disease kill me.
wow now if i take a vacation to the slums of africa and catch ebola they'll be able to cure it.
You mean curing the Africans?
Read The Hot Zone. Ebola stay the fuck away from me!
At first I was hoping for a cure for cancer, but this is still an amazing achievement.
You mean curing the Africans?
Oh please, the africans cant paaayy to be cured. Better to just quarantine the whole continent
Score one for the Scientists. Ebola is some seriously nasty shit. 95% mortality rate with modern medical treatment.
-shudder- that was one Biology class that it was not a good thing to see the TV-on-wheels in the room. Single most disturbing video in that entire year.
"Possible"
Ebola is the most horrifying thing I've ever heard about. Glad that they could have found something.
Awesome :science: and all that jazz. Now we really need a cure for that flesh eating superbug and we're set.
Awesome :science: and all that jazz. Now we really need a cure for that flesh eating superbug and we're set.
suddenly, ebola and superbug team up. :tinfoil:
