Trump tweets mock video of himself tackling, punching CNN logo
Not really. It sounds like they wanted to contact him for an interview and he got spooked and razed his social media.
He went dark before ever even talking to CNN.
Also, this bit is just hilarious:
That's putting it optimistically when you look at the above quote:
CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.
CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.

This is really, really low, even for CNN IMO.
[Editline]tbh I think moonman is hilarious[/editline]
Who was the genius editor that greenlit this? A media corporation intimidating a kid into censoring himself doesn't make for the best reflection on the brand.
i guess everyone is just trying to stoop as low as the president.
cnn hasnt yet mocked a reporter with a disability or said it would pay the legal fees of anyone who assaulted a trump supporter
There's really nothing wrong with some random redditor making that gif though. It only became a problem when the POTUS retweeted it, so I don't even understand why he apologized in the first place? Sounds like he's been getting harassed for it. I sure hope CNN didn't actually mean to imply a doxxing threat...

Thanks to the President re-tweeting it, he's been thrown into the spotlight. As a result of that, people have found out the other... "eye-brow raising?" things he's said, and then he suddenly learns that he's not as anonymous as he thinks he is, hence his panicked reaction of essentially nuking his Reddit history.

It's really difficult to interpret it as anything but a thinly veiled public threat, in my opinion.
They either massively screwed up the wording there, or they (or the author) are just trying to cover it up now that it's blowing up in their face.
I'm inclined to think it's the latter since reporters can as far as I'm concerned be expected to be not that terrible at expressing themselves clearly. Still, benefit of the doubt etc.
Either way, it looks like they're also threatening to expose anyone else who makes an inconvenient joke gif and is 'any' less apologetic about it. That's a bit of a problem.

Here's a better summary of the issue by a Vox reporter:

It's so FUCKING frustrating in an era where our lunatic leader and his rabid cultish fanbase can disregard ANYTHING as false or unfair that the news sources that NEED to be as professional and grounded as possible keep making these mistakes and adding fuel to the stupidity fire that is the crusade to delegitimize the news
Strange how good Trump fans become at spotting implied threats when anyone other than Trump is making them.
That said- lmfao CNN wtf are you doing? Needlessly incriminating yourself over twitter drama? gg you have actually taken a leaf out of Trump's book.
They would have been far better off saying absolutely nothing about this, Why the fuck did they even respond to this childish bullshit beyond their original "he should start doing his job" zinger?.

They don't have the time or resources to go after everyone who makes a joke gif, it's just that this one was retweeted by the POTUS, and happened to come from someone who had a history of making fairly abhorrent posts.
The lesson learned here is that if you are going to post stuff on the internet, but particularly post stuff that you believe wouldn't reflect well on your personal or professional life, you shouldn't let it be used to track down your actual identity. Regardless of the supposed "threat" on CNN's part, I feel no sympathy for the guy. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

They probably thought there was some journalistic interest in tracking down other things that the person in question posted. It would make Trump looked bad if he retweeted something created by someone who posts shit like like this.

That's what I meant by 'inconvenient'.
To be honest I agree with you in not minding the user's (other) posts catching up to him personally.
However, as Lopez explained in the screenshot I attached to my previous post, it's still wrong and a problem for CNN to do this regardless of that.

The only occurrence I can remembering of actual violence breaking out inside one of those rallies by Trump supporters was when a protester wore a KKK garb for whatever reason, tried to grab everyone's attention there on camera, and then promptly got slugged by an Afro-American Trump supporter for that. Dunno what that protester was expecting though, maybe he thought ''If I get beaten up for this, I win''?
We can play the "whose supporters were worse" game all day long. Plenty of examples to go around on either side. As it stands, however, only one actual candidate was actively encouraging violence from his supporters. Not just encouraging it, but explicitly promising to pay for their legal fees if they got caught. That's a bit more distressing than "random idiot punches Republican/Democrat for no apparent reason."

cool let's defend blackmailing an innocent shitposter with their dox because trump once said a thing you don't like
holy shit
ffs CNN stop fucking giving them more fuel you morons
If they would only realize how much they hurt everybody with their own stupid actions. Everyone and everything is becoming dumber but only the extremist conservatives benefit from this.
Listen man, I hear you. But Obama did some kind of not presidential stuff as well. Kicking that door, dropping the mic, doing a bit with key and peele. You can't really get riled up over satire. It's just not a good look.
If you don't like the guy, that's cool. But at least find something good to go after him about. Not this petty shit.
There's a marked difference between having a bit of fun, playing along with comedians and telling good natured jokes at press events, and inciting people to violence, threatening the free press, insulting dissenters, and so on. You're off you're rocker if you think that Obama doing a silly skit with Key & Peele is even within a running leap of the same kind of misconduct as Trump angrily accusing female news presenters who are critical of him of being on their period, for example.
Honestly, lol.
"What? Trump loudly bragged about sexually assaulting women who were too intimidated by his wealth and fame to say no? Well, Obama once jokingly played a clip from the Lion King as his 'birth video.' How unprofessional. Unbelievable! Typical Liberal bias!"

I mean, the alternative just doesn't really make much sense to me. As a news outlet, would you rather have an interview with someone who made international headlines mocking you, or blackmail him into going dark? Controversy sells, not silence.

You forgot to point out that the clip of him kicking a door was doctored footage, he never actually kicked a door.

Unless you're willing to track down and release Asshole's personal information, I'm going to trust the only official source we have.
The original source for the claim that he was 15 came from a post on /pol/.
Also Jack Poboseic took down his tweet "confirming" that he was not only 15 but also an LGBT Trump supporter who had just come out to his parents.

Why is he an asshole for making a meme? Bit of a harsh judgement considering all you know about the guy is the word of a not-so reputable media outlet currently blackmailing him

I'm referring to his username.
Also, he's an asshole for being a huge racist bigot, not for making a gif. I'm not sure if you looked at his account before he went scorched earth on himself, but I did.

fucking lmao look at those false sympathy cards being played.
It's not enough that CNN is threatening to publicly doxx a racist Trump supporter for making a gif that got turned into a Trump-retweeted meme and for being a huge racist.
It's not enough that CNN is threatening to publicly doxx someone who is misreported as allegedly being 15.
It's gotta be a 15-year-old who's also LGBT and only just came out.
Like, CNN is definitely the fucker here, but this is like trying to apply realistic prosthetic red makeup and horns to make them into the living image of Satan. Nothing is real anymore. :v:

it always has been, I just don't think it's ever effected actual policy before.

I remember it being less disfactual.
Maybe I just haven't seen much of it before this though.
