so you're saying he's the jimmy carter of our time
kinda, yeah
Except we still have dumbshits saying "Jimmy Carter was the worst president ever I'm so glad God sent Ronald Reagan to come save America"
I swear, the only reason why Reagan is so revered is because he was super charismatic/AMERICA AS FUCK/beat the Red Menace, etc, instead of actual prowess. Didn't the economy burn because of his Reaganomic shenanigans?
Didn't the economy burn because of his Reaganomic shenanigans?
Him and pretty much every president after him (including Clinton). But it was far away enough that people can still claim that he wasn't what caused it.
I almost want some firmly/'far right' conservative guy to become president just to see the shenanigans unfold, but that would be fifteen kinds of crisis that I would instantly regret
I have a feeling that, years and years from now, Obama is going to be regarded almost as a tragic figure, who, barring some admittedly big shenanigans like the NSA and the drones, came into office at the wrong time
Honestly, he gets way too much shit for both of those. The NSA has been doing these kinds of things pretty much for its entire life, and as well much of what people complain about was planned and set in motion before Obama even took office.
And I can't even see why people complain about drones. The people that do have basically no understanding of drone usage.
I don't think I'd ever call politics anywhere near professional :v: It's basically a bunch of teenagers with wrinkles in suits over here. Calling out the opposition when they do something dumb, or attempt to call you out is just something politicians will always do. Figurehead of the country or not.
Congress is actually a lot more well-behaved in-session than Parliament (despite both being full of various kinds of wankers), which seems to be a pub brawl waiting to happen.
They didn't because there was a desire for bipartisanship in the country. The republicans pretty much shot that down.
They didn't steam roll through Obamacare.
The ppl in America might gave desired it- democrats excluded republicans at every turn. That bill was steamrolled so hard no one knew the details of it. Nancy peloso even remarked that "we have to pass the bill before we know what it says".
If rushing a bills vote to the extent it's not even read doesn't qualify as "steamroll" then I don't know what would.

Regarding the Republican treatment of Obama, it could have been worse. Far worse.
Remember what the south did to Lincoln before seceding?
Let's just ignore the fact that the majority of democrats at one time believed that the US government was involved in 9/11.
*hint* Both parties do the same kind of stuff *hint*
These fucking neocon shits started two decade long wars, both of which were based on pretenses which proved to be completely false, and only then did they manage to run the entire global economy into the ground. Nothing anyone believes is as bad as the reality so there.
What?
He was a democrat president with a majority democrat house and a majority democrat senate (not now but at the time of obamacares passage)
This is what is known as a trifecta- there's absolutely no way to stop democrats (at that time) from passing any law they wanted..
I'm not getting into the "was his presidency good/bad" - I'm simple pointing out that democrats cannot use republicans as an excuse.
ALAS
the two years they had majority, they ACTUALLY had the optimism to try and include Republicans in legislation, only to have it end in complete failure!! Now this bullshit is actually a Republican talking point! Tell me, how does it feel to be a stooge?

The republicans more than affected the ACA with their requests and demands.

They made a public spectacle about a better system and negotiated for a worse one.

If the GOP didn't want Obamacare to pass then maybe they shouldn't have lost all those elections in 2006 and 2008? Your opponent passing laws you don't like is kind of a consequence of not getting elected.

And if democrats didn't want the blame for Obamacare, they shouldn't have rammed it through. It's kind of a consequence for passing a bad law.....
silence before i aim my cancer beams at you
Cancer beam? Just a longer duration x-ray beam should do. Get on par, lizard man.

Um, the recession was being predicted for years and we had a legitimate reason to go to Afghanistan.
it's hilarious how the republican legislators have been extremely critical of the president, when the president has barely any domestic power compared to them.
i know they're not stupid - they're just either delusional or primarily focused on the election cycle.
And if democrats didn't want the blame for Obamacare, they shouldn't have rammed it through. It's kind of a consequence for passing a bad law.....
Their ramming it through seemed to be more to prove a point than anything, which is a shame. In its current state it's laughable, but it can work as a base for a proper healthcare system akin to something like the NHS. Just needs to be built on top of really.
If Romney were in office, he would say the same thing about the democrats who would most certainly be bitching about Benghazi, etc. That's how this works, just a Republican-Democrat thing. Both blame each other for something while nothing meaningful ever happens. This is why the two party bullshit needs to stop. Both political parties could care less about you, hell they only pretend to like you so you can vote for them, and continue the left/right blame game that is modern American politics.

yeah good thing we found them in pakistan huh
BU BU THE TALIBAN
[editline]21st May 2014[/editline]
also who was the recession predicted by, git-ur-gold loons?
it's really easy to predict an economic downturn if you predict it every fucking year

You realize the gridlock in senate is not a longstanding issue.
Noted. ^
When Reagan was president, 108 (I think) Marines were killed in a bombing of a military base in southeast asia. The Democrat-controlled house at the time decided that they were going to do a Bi-partisan investigation. I find it funny because the current Republicans wouldn't even think to try a Bi-partisan investigation of Benghazi. Just shows how mush of an asshole certain Republican House and Senate members can be.
I usually don't like to post my own opinion for fear of being too controversial, but this is just wow... I've lost a lot of faith in you guys.
If there's one thing i sort of agree with republicans on, its that I don't think we did enough about the Benghazi thing. What have we done about it?
Yeah seriously, I'm surprised and disappointed at the lack of empathy in the first page comments. It's not just about these two issues though, there have been a multitude of other issues where people just didn't seem to give a shit after about 2 weeks time. After all which has happened, nothing has really been done about these issues other than a few laughable hearings and lots of stonewalling. Somehow everyone just seems to think these issues seem to sort themselves out. Well they don't.
There are a Bunch of fires which still need to be put out, and things will only get worse if they are ignored. It's disgraceful how many of you guys are just willing to dismiss issues which have yet to be resolved. No wonder nothing ever gets done right in this country anymore.

How are you supposed to have a bi-partisan investigation when one side refuses to acknowledge that there needs to be an investigation?
"Republicans are in an endless loop of Benghazi and Obamacare", said the man who's in endless loop if 9/11 and the start of the invasion of Afghanistan.
He's the one that gave the NSA more powers when he became the president.

it's only a shit law because the repubs nerfed it into oblivion
it's only a shit law because the repubs nerfed it into oblivion
They knew it was nerfed/shit BEFORE they passed it, and yet THEY STILL PASSED IT! Normal people would have not passed it once it became shit.
No matter how hard you try, you can't blame the republicans for passing a shit law, when none of them supported it nor did they pass it.
