Anyone who says, 'A piracy is not a sale lost', in response to this is absolutely wrong.
But regardless if someone pirates, most will probably pay for it. They would be skipping profit because they lost "potential sales" instead of looking at the actual sales numbers which would still earn them enough money to make the conversion profitable.
If everyone that signed a petition payed full price for a PC copy ($50 let's assume). Rockstar would have about 6 million dollars if I did the calculation right. While I feel this is somewhat overblown. It would be nice if Rockstar did just save themselves and everyone else the hassle and just say "Consoles are our first priority, but a PC release will follow.". I think they did something similar with Max Payne 3.
No they didn't, PC was their priority with Max Payne 3.
I don't understand console ports. PC's are plain old better, why not start there and then "shrink" it for consoles? [editline]3rd December 2012[/editline] And release them simultaneously.
Really don't see the point. Rockstar is going to release the game on PC regardless. I'm so sure of that that I'm willing to bet 100 bucks.
If anything though, this does show Rockstar that there's plenty love for GTA from the PC gamers.

As consoles are their main market, it's more profitable for them to work on the console version first and then work on the PC version as an afterthought.

A PC version should be a norm already. TBH we shouldn't even have a petition in the first place. We shouldn't be forced to do this. Rockstar and or any developer should make a PC port/version from day one if it is not a console specific exclusive. If it is on ps3 or xbox, it should be on PC. Hands down.
Anyone who says, 'A piracy is not a sale lost', in response to this is absolutely wrong.
Piracy is not a sale lost. Saying that every pirate is a poor customer corrupted and made dirty thieves by the pirate bay is a dumb excuse used by publishers who can't take responsibility for their own fuck ups, and saying the PC isn't as profitable because of it is even more wild and imaginative, the PC isn't as popular as a gaming platform, simple. Consoles are infinitely more user friendly and easier to develop for, you can always cash in with them while PCs might be a risk and are not as profitable with the smaller user base. Rockstar can make a PC version of it and profit too, sure, but the profit pales in comparison to everything else, it doesn't matter if they release it sooner or later since profit will come in anyways and they might even get an extra from people buying 2 copies. It's a shame they're doing that, one million copies is good enough and would show appreciation for their fans, people do matter as much as numbers if you plan on lasting long and word of mouth from these fans can do wonders for them. I bet Valve could profit even from ricochet 2 because of their fan love alone. [editline]3rd December 2012[/editline]
A PC version should be a norm already.
