not that I agree with the decision but the article sympathizing the lyrics is dumb
"I'm not homophobic I have a gay friend!!"
And nothing of value was lost
And nothing of value was lost
Except an ever so tiny bit of freedom, I'm no fan of the guy's music or his views (judging by his Twitter page) but the government barring this guy from the country is absolutely not cool. Censorship by the government is a crime in my books. Since election the Conversative government has done nothing but prove they don't care about the general public or their rights, this is tiny, but it's just more evidence to put on the pile.
He's a popular artist and popular artists sell tickets that help the local economy. Banning Tyler the Creator from the country and then letting Jimmy Carr tour the country saying things significantly more offensive than anything Tyler's said is absurd.
Jimmy is a comedian - the things he says, get this, are jokes.
Jimmy is a comedian - the things he says, get this, are jokes.
I don't think there's been a lot of serious moments in tylers routine.
Jimmy is a comedian - the things he says, get this, are jokes.
and so are 99% of the things Tyler the Creator says
I haven't seen him stab Bruno Mars yet at least maybe I wasn't paying close attention

Banning anyone based on what they say is wrong though, provided it isn't hate speech or something like that they should be allowed to say it. That's freedom of speech, a basic human right. So no we shouldn't ban Jimmy Carr (although we could simply stop categorizing what he says as comedy because I'm pretty sure that comedy is supposed to be funny) and we shouldn't ban Tyler either unless he says something that's clearly hate speech or actually does advocate terrorism.
Of course then we jump into the territory of 'who defines what is hate speech and what is just speech?' and that's a pretty scary question, I certainly don't trust the UK's current government to do it.

So isn't Tyler the Creator? Its possible to create internationally absurd songs ya know

eminem is a very dangerous man who murders women every day please ban him oh glorious home office
holy shit
I can't believe there's so many people actually celebrating the censorship of art
I'm not a fan of this guy and don't really give a shit, but you lot are not smart if you can't see what this will eventually become
Jimmy is a comedian - the things he says, get this, are jokes.
I wasn't aware that Tyler actually had a threesome with a triceratops, or that he fucked a pregnant bitch and told his friends he had a threesome, or that he stabbed Bruno Mars in the esophagus, or that he bombed Buckingham Palace...
He's a comedic shock value rapper most of the time, but even then his newer music ditches all the shock value and goes for musicality and experimentation

he says sexist, homophobic and violent things all the time so people have every right to believe he is that way. then hes like "nigga uh bruuuhhhh what i say i have no impact niggaaaaaa" when what he says clearly does matters because hes talking infront of large audiences.

Okay:
1. No matter what your personal opinions of him are censorship is censorship.
2. Saying nigga or making a gay joke doesn't make you racist or homophobic, the guy supported and helped the career of a gay dude who's also his best mate.
3. Talking infront of a large audience doesn't mean you have impact, you don't approach Tyler's performances with the same mentality you would if David Cameron was coming up on stage of spew some bullshit. You're trying to say there is weight in a guys lyrics, that they could influence the public into bad things, when his lyrics include having a threesome with triceratops.
he says sexist, homophobic and violent things all the time so people have every right to believe he is that way. then hes like "nigga uh bruuuhhhh what i say i have no impact niggaaaaaa" when what he says clearly does matters because hes talking infront of large audiences.

So you decide to call someone homophobic, violent and sexist. While yourself try to quote something that Tyler never said in the first place. Adding in nonexistant "nigga" and "bruuhh" into that quote.
So yeah, based on your logic you're racist then. (which doesn't make any god damn sense, and that pretty much destroys your logic)

Boy you sure have built quite a boogeyman there haven't you? Who is this "illiberal left"? Is it people in the major parties? Because they are by and large old as fuck and don't exactly share the views with many modern left wing youth/ adults (there's a reason the youth/ young adults are so disillusioned by politics, our representation has always been shite). Is it the modern left wing youth? Because I'm fairly sure you are demonstrably incorrect about this assertion in that case? Is it ~the SJWS~~~? Because if it is you're delusional to think these people actually have any political clout.
Most calls for the banning of pornography, drugs, prostitution, etc. come from shitheels like the Tories and their ilk because they are crotchety old men who dislike change.

Except that Tyler was practically forced to cancel his Australian tour due to an effort put forward by a feminist group calling him out for misogyny. It's definitely the "~~SJW~~" groups who actually have put forth (successful) efforts to censor things. Remember GTA V in Australia? Feminist groups pushed for it to be banned from stores and they were successful, because ignoring them or rejecting them would have led to a PR nightmare as countless feminists would have accused Target (and KMart, who is owned by the same company) of encouraging violence against women.
Have you heard of Dalhousie University? For quite a while now they've faced countless protests from feminists on a witch hunt, demanding the public release of names of people who were in a private Facebook group that shared some off-color jokes. The students in question were already suspended, but they've been disrupting classes there in an effort to ruin the lives of a few people for making a few jokes. ~the SJWS~~~ (who aren't some sort of Illuminati-esque group, which no one is claiming) are definitely real and have been pulling similar shit on countless campuses in the last few years. There's a reason why FIRE has been pushing so hard to protect the free speech of students. More than ever, speakers are being banned from visiting schools due to opposition from people who make up all kinds of outrageous claims against them.

Yeah, people have the right to. And it makes them a fucking idiot if they do. Why? Because they can't manage to make a search on Google. It's really easy to find out this guy is just fucking around. Tyler the Creator makes frequent use of darker alter egos in his music for the sake of storytelling, in other word's, Tyler is not saying to go rape and murder people, his character is. It's no different than an actor performing a character, or a writer writing about a serial killer. Writing about rapists or from the first person fictional perspective of a rapist isn't sexist, it's writing.
Tyler the Creator has also gone on to prove he's not even slightly homophobic by being one of the first Odd Future members to support Frank Ocean when he came out as being gay.
Hell, why don't you just fucking ask him what his thoughts are on this kind of shit? About words like saying nigga, nigger, faggot, bitch, so on? Oh wait! We did.

But because this whole thing seems to stem from a complete fucking laziness to use Google, I'll specifically quote the bit
Arsenio Hall: You don't place so much importance on language, though, is that- like, I know you have friends like Frank Ocean, yet, I've heard you also use the F word.
Tyler the Creator: Yeah. Well, see that's the thing, we live, it's another thing, see that's just a word. That, you could take the power out of that word. It's, the way that I see things, you chose to be offended if you care more about stuff like that. And that might sound very ignorant, but, if someone, if you're a black person and someone calls you an N-word, and you get offended, maybe, I dunno, maybe you might be. But if I know that I'm not a N-word, which, she told me not to say, which I really wanna say that word, I'm not gonna get offended, 'cause I know that I'm not that. So, I mean, Frank's gay, I use that word all the time, he doesn't care. 'Cause he knows me, he knows when I say that word, I'm not thinking of someone's sexual orientation, or anything, it's just another word that has no meaning.
Arsenio: Yeah, and when you use the N-word, it doesn't mean the same.
Tyler: Yeah, anybody can be that. I called the white dude in the back a N-word earlier! He got nervous! Calling white people the N-word, they get nervous, oh my gosh, it is amazing!
In other words, it's the exact fucking same as when Louis CK went up and said "Faggot's just a word! Nigger's just a word!' and we all fuckin' applauded, and guess who isn't banned from the UK and Australia?
Banning a musician from a country because you don't like his work. That is absolutely shameful behavior from the Home Office IMO.
maybe they can help the US eradicate the twat of JB
Reality really is stranger than fiction sometimes, fucking hell.

No but really, banning him from the country is a little extreme.

This really isn't the same issue in England is it over there though. Aside from a couple of fringe people here and there this SJW thing hasn't really been a UK problem. The conservatives are a right wing party with conservative values, this is completely in line with their politics and something they'd do at this point regardless of the court of public opinion.

oh no he said "Nigga" what an awful human being!!!
I actually find this quite disturbing. I mean it isn't like they're arresting him since he isn't there to be arrested, but this counts as censorship of the arts - does it not?
I mean, I don't feel that because they can listen to his music through other mediums, that it isn't censorship.
