• Making Mars the New Earth

Martians would never be able to visit Earth. They would be pathetically fragile compared to even the weakest nerds of Earth due to the gravitational difference.
This should be the logo for the colony:
My thoughts
If this interests you guys I advise you watch The Mars Underground. It's a Mars documentary posted here about a year ago and it's fantastic. As I was reading the OP and looking at the pictures I saw striking similarities to Robert Zubrin's idea for the future of Mars - this was confirmed when I read his name. This is, in part, what got me interested in science as a prospective career. The only thing I might gripe about is above-ground habitation modules - certainly this would be the only way for the first series of crews, but after a while I would think they would send some demolition specialists over to carve out some underground living spaces - living underground on Mars is much safer than small, shitty structures on the surface.
I'm not entirely sure how they intend to solve the mostly none-existent atmosphere.
They're gonna put one there duh. :downs:
It's all good till you dig up something and fucking demons take over the place.
"In other news, NASA astronauts on the surface of Mars have discovered a bizarre cube-shaped object. NASA scientists have no idea what the object may be or what its purpose is, but they have decided to call it 'The Soul Cube' for no discernable reason."
I don't really want to live after all my relatives and friends died.
You can outlive your enemies and piss on their graves.
IF THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE MARS. THEN THEY BETTER MAKE A DIEING CURE SO YOU CAN'T DIE. SO WE DON'T GET TO MISS OUT. /caps for awesome times.
Funny story, it is possible to remove death by aging. Problem is, science doesn't know how yet.
Of course were the last generation before future-like thing's like this. Total bull :colbert:
To everyone who said "But I won't live to see it :saddowns: ": http://sciencestage.com/resources/immortality-just-20-years-away I support this completely, but if we find a single bacteria under the sand, most people would call this naive and all but: I'd leave it there, see how life adapts to the conditions and evolves again. If we don't, bring over the formers :clint:
Yes it can.
Didn't someone say somewhere that almost every human in the world could fit in Texas, while having a small home and yard?
This is exactly what's wrong with only living for about 80-90 years, you miss this kind of shit.
Ill Get us there!
Didn't someone say somewhere that almost every human in the world could fit in Texas, while having a small home and yard?
You could fit everyone in England if they stand up.
go look at the cool futuristic stuff thread.
Where can I find it, Looks interesting
I want to be a part of that.
This thread makes me sad :frown: Well, we're still young, wonder how the technology is in 20 years! :buddy: [editline]01:07AM[/editline] :saddowns:
Don't drink the water. Don't even touch it, not one drop. But seriously, that's pretty cool.
I like how blue jeans are still the best choice of pants 1000 years in the future. Levi Strauss you were a genius.
What about the difference in gravity?
yeah man, lets build all that shit and then fuck everything up with nuclear power again.
Everything is buggy when it first comes out, like nuclear power was. They moved too fast with it and that's why it got out of hand and everyone is now afraid of nuclear power plants and thinks they are gonna explode any second. By the time we get to Mars we'll probably have nuclear rockets, quit living in the past.
Read this series, best sci-fi books on martian colonization i've ever read.
Hell yes. :buddy:
Yeah, we're putting them to great use too.
Whats wrong with her hips, it looks like her ass is on backwards..... Genius! :science:
problem with mars is that the gravity isn't sufficient to support an athmosphere. It would just radiate into space (over a long period of time).
I want to live on mars, but i want to keep some of that red color, like, a red sky, or red grass, or red water. CAN IT BE DONE, NASA???!!! [editline]01:34AM[/editline]
problem with mars is that the gravity isn't sufficient to support an athmosphere.
problem with mars is that the gravity isn't sufficient to support an athmosphere. It would just radiate into space (over a long period of time).
Not quite. Really, it has more to do with the magnetic field. The magnetic field around Earth is strong enough to direct the solar wind and most radiation around the Earth. However, the same cannot be said for Mars. Thus, it would have most of its atmosphere stripped away by the solar wind. This means that before you even consider colonizing Mars, you would need to strengthen the magnetic field somehow (iron-rich asteroids striking a hole through the crust maybe?), lest you be bombarded with gamma rays and suffocated by a thinning atmosphere.
Fuck yeah, sex bots!
It'd be good until we get pew-pew'd by Martians.
I honestly wish I could be on the first ride there. Something meaningfull would finally happen in my life.
