Britons who kill police officers to be given whole actual life sentences

Cop killers are worse, and should be punished harder, because they are a bigger danger to ALL the public. The fact that they could kill even a cop proves they are about as criminally anti-social as you can get.
Life with no possibility of parole though is not so great an idea. You create a prisoner with nothing to lose. No hope of anything. This prisoner will be an extreme danger to everyone around him, including the prison guards. With someone society deems this bad, the last thing you want to do is remove the last control mechanism you have over them, the chance they may get out, even if it's 30 years away.

why is ~cop killer~ a buzzword?
Killing orphans is a double life sentence
Police officers shouldn't get special treatment, sounds like the beginning of converting Britain to a police state.

Cops are the human face of THE LAW. The thing that makes us civilized, our codified set of rules we all live by. It's one thing for a guy to kill his wife, that killing is punished because we don't tolerate that sort of behavior. But that killing is an act between one citizen and another. A cop killing is a criminal act against the whole of society.

The UK already ranks higher than the US in the police state rankings

Next time try to answer without relying on rhetoric.

Oh there is an official aggregate for that now?
I'm guessing it doesn't take into consideration prison population or militarisation.
maybe we should just pay money to regular people to kill gang members.
A wonderful idea :v:
Electronic police states are characterized by government surveillance of telephone traffic, cellular telephone traffic, emails, Internet surfing, video surveillance, and other forms of electronic (including fiber optic) tracking. A crucial characteristic of this process is that the data is gathered universally and silently, and only later organized for use in prosecutions in legal proceedings.
I accidentally cited the 2008 report. In the 2010 report the UK ranks 6, while the US ranks 5.
In 2008 it was the over way around

oh god cryptohippie, I'm wheezing.
So basically a ~electronic police state~ not an actual police state, and from a dubious if slightly interesting source.

I am still trying to find the true list. I had the link bookmarked for the longest time.
I don't agree with this.
But the only 'logical' reason I think of is that the majority of policemen in the UK are unarmed, or wouldn't defend themselves with lethal force so its to offer a little more protection by hopefully (but not likely) making people think twice before trying to shoot or stab a policemen who's in their way, or knocking at the door.
Especially considering the situation of police vs citizens. Police walk into the job understanding full well that they are duty bound to defend others to their own death. Citizens don't and shouldn't have to make that promise. Why are their lives suddenly worth more when they're the only ones who gladly accept the fact that they might die for the greater good?
and i wonder what happens to police officers who kill britons
Hmm, why shouldn't you be given life regardless of who you killed?
because there are lots of different reasons why a person might kill someone else
