Ubisoft warns players not to trust early reviews of The Crew
Honestly do we even need reviews to tell us the game will be shit? Given past occurrences it's bound to be the case.
Considering the fact that Ubisoft are trying to sway people away from reading the reviews, I'm sure the reviews have plenty of bad things to say about the game. A game dev should be proud of their pre-release reviews if they are positive, but this must indicate that The Crew's release is in fact a steaming pile of sloppy shit compared to the beta.
I wonder who is going to learn first, Ubisoft or the consumer.
Can anyone explain how I refund this on steam?
Submit a steam ticket asking to cancel your preorder.
You need to do it now unless you will be stuck with it
Edit: I am so late I might actually be pregnant
If the reviews were actually about the small beta previews from people who hadn't played the game, this would be reasonable, but this is after launch. Why would the press base their reviews on the beta preview when they can just, you know, go play the game?
Because the first review that goes out makes the most money, gets the most views, etc. There's a rush to have a review out and I can almost guarantee every single major publication has their review waiting on a timer to go live the moment the game releases.
It's part of why I don't actually look at those sorts of reviews.
Don't trust reviews of our game, Trust our word, instead! Remember Watch Dogs?
That's fine and dandy ubisoft. By unveiling details about your game before launch, you are doing the reviewers work and telling us the same thing they would have.
Your game is shit.
Honestly people, just boycott Ubisoft. They won't learn a damned thing until their bottom line is affected.
I'm sorry but what the hell would be the "optimal conditions" that would me lead me to write a review that "reflects the finished game" other than playing the finished game?

The blog post stresses that The Crew is a social game, requiring full servers of players to fully enjoy. "...The Crew was built from the beginning to be a living playground full of driving fans, so it’s only possible to assess our game in its entirety with other real players in the world," the post states. "And by other, we mean thousands and thousands and thousands of players — something that can’t be simulated with a handful of devs playing alongside the press."
I don't know which is dumber, Ubisoft's pleading or SH's knee-jerk inability to read before making ~epic zingers~.

holy shit guys just don't buy the game immediately on release, wait for reviews even if they take another day to appear, it's not that hard
DON'T TRUST THEM BUT MAKE SURE YOU GET THE SEASON PASS.
Fuck off.
I don't know, I think this is the last nail in the coffin for me with Ubisoft, I haven't bought a game of theirs since Zombie U, but now I want nothing to do with their name. This is so scummy.

How can you be a person who supports review embargos?
[editline]25th November 2014[/editline]
Especially release day review embargo's.
Those fucking cocksuckers, this is the game I actually wanted to buy, but they ruined it.
I wonder who is going to learn first, Ubisoft or the consumer.
I'm willing to bet neither.

Considering how much they're focusing on the social and online aspects of the game, I don't see why you guys are shitting your pants over this.
If you want a review, there should be plenty of the beta which will give you an overview of the driving mechanics.
The giant map was pretty neat, but that was its only really unique feature and after the 2 day beta I had already checked out my hometown and all the other major points of interest, to the point where I wasn't even interested in playing the second beta.
The social features seemed really forced in, and it was only really fun to play with a "Crew" if they were people you knew and could talk to on Teamspeak or something. Without that, they might as well have been AI drivers.
I'd prefer Ubisoft to just work hard on one game instead of pumping multiple average games.
They never even used to be like this, what the fuck happened?

The HD era means content creation is even more demanding.
The deadlines aren't being extended to compensate.
Do it pretty, fast, good. Choose only two.
I first read about this in a Forbes article.
Wich concluded with:
No, this doesn’t wash away their prior sins, but it’s a strong step in the right direction that shows them respecting their consumers, and that needs to be applauded.
What the shit. Preventing the press from releasing reviews before the game is released is respecting consumers? I've read plenty of reviews of online games before launch and it's not like the press is so dense they won't take into account that shit will be more crowded post-launch.
"Hey guys don't review our game until people prepurchase it! Oh and dont review it like ever. Because its good and you dont understand!"
Rip anyone who owns Ubisoft shares, 9% drop for ac unity and now another shitty release right after. Truly incredible

Beta was good.
Pre-release reviews are often shit.
Living up to SH is easy tho
I can foresee a video like that one about fall of Amiga coming out about Ubisoft in the next years.
"After some terrible releases and some baffling corporate decisions, Ubisoft was ready to fall over and never get back up."

If the game is heavily focused on online gameplay then an offline preview is not going to be indicative of the final product. If they were smart they'd have provided a 'simulated' online experience or invited reviewers to a preview event where they could judge it under conditions approximating launch, but 'please don't judge it until you actually have the full game and please don't invent a review based on betas so you can be first' isn't an unreasonable request and it's nothing like the 'hurr don't review just buy' nonsense that people here are framing it as solely because it's Ubisoft.
I see nothing wrong with this. It's an mmo. Reviewing an mmo with only a few dozen people on it is kind of dumb.

They're a publisher. What publisher only thinks about publishing one game at a time?
AC Unity was actually developed by Ubisoft, but this game is just being published by them.
It's true, you fucking sheep, jesus.
Go ahead and keep buying their overpriced hunk of crap games and watch how further the gaming industry falls.
Looks like somebody's upset we rated you dumb.
ubisoft has had a hell of a year
It's not like it's their own fault or anything.

Except the experience doesn't change at all. You can't really communicate with people outside your Crew, so they might as well be AI drivers.

Half the fun of playing the beta test was seeing nearby players, driving to them, and playing with them by exploring/driving down train tracks/mountain climbing etc.
It would be hard to make AI drivers that are able to just fuck around in the world like that just for the sake of reviewers reviewing the game.
