Why is the sound of mission control tied to the rocket's cameras streaming correctly? Every time video cuts you lose audio from the people on the ground.
Falcon 9 v1.1 "awaiting vehicle downlink" edition.
Oh hey there's that update on the first stage.
So eerily silent
Here is hoping for ground cams on the first stage eventually
"Loss of signal".
"Loss of signal".
Expected as it passes over the horizon from the launch site.
So... uh... how about that first stage?
Argh just missed it :(
I really wanted to see the first stage landing.
So... uh... how about that first stage?
Not much to do but wait for updates on that. I'll post here as soon as I hear anything.
From http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2013/09/spacex-debut-falcon-9-v1-1-cassiope-launch/
The MV American Islander, of the American Marine Corporation, is present in the Pacific Ocean to attempt recovery of the stage should it land intact, and to tow it back to port, however the stage is not expected to be recoverable.
Well damn, I missed it.
Here's Musk's words from the presser that's happening now (via twitter, no feed :c) Elon Musk: it was a great day. All satellites placed in their orbits. Demoed all tech. Musk: attempted relight of upper stage, encountered anomaly. Understand what it is and will fix before next flight Musk: Lower stage 3-engine relight went well, reentered. Single-engine relight went well, but exceeded roll control of ACS [Attitude Control System] Musk: rolling "centrifuged" propellant, shut down engine early. Did recover "portions" of 1st stage after splashdown Musk: despite that, we have all the pieces in place to accomplish recovery of stages in the future, "full and rapid reusability" of stage. Musk: all 1st and 2nd stage engines performed "slightly better than expected". Musk: new pad at Vandenberg AFB also performed well. I'm really proud of them, but this presser sounds like something right out of KSP: "The engines didn't explode, so that's a plus." "Well, where's the rocket?" "We recovered portions of it" [slow clap to standing ovation]
Can't believed I missed it. Oh well
Oh no I missed it. Is there a video of the launch?
Oh no I missed it. Is there a video of the launch?
Here you go :)
Video is now private...
Weird. Here's one that works. [editline]30th September 2013[/editline] Seems they may have cut out all the "awaiting vehicle downlink in this version".
I'm honestly surprised how successful the landing attempt was. It sounds like the only thing stopping it was a relatively simple problem. (Excessive spin). I think we'll have an intact splash down next flight. Which has me super excited.
