Windows 10 is like a 3-4 GB update, why is that such a big deal?
Windows 10 is like a 3-4 GB update, why is that such a big deal?
Because some people have ISP's that live in the past and have data caps. Or use wireless internet which nearly always does. As much as a like Win10, it is admittedly a pretty shitty thing to do for those unfortunate souls.

Just browsing facepunch can put me through a few gigs. This month alone I have viewed 23.6 GB of content in Chrome, streamed 131 GB of content from HBO, streamed 3.81 GB of songs on Spotify, and downloaded 17.5 GB of games on Steam.
I don't see a problem unless you have something to hide...
This is a terrible approach to a privacy debate. "I mean, I have nothing to hide, go ahead! I'm an open book!" Well some people aren't an open book sorry. I don't see a problem with not being able to get data unless you have selfish intent.
I don't see a problem unless you have something to hide...
So you're fine with people seeing what porn you watch? Your secret guilty pleasure movies/songs/tv shows? Private conversations with your friends and family? Googling medical problems that can be embarrassing?

Sure, you might be stuck in an ISP monopoly and that sucks, everyone should be fighting those business practices, but if that's the situation for you then have some precautions. That's such a ridiculous cap that you're going to need precautions to prevent being charged anyway.

It's like as if MS made you download MS Office updates in case you ever install MS Office.
My Windows 8.1 is all kinds of fucked up. I've been running it since it was Windows 8.0 like, probably got more than a 1000 softwares installed, my Explorer is modded to have tabs. This thing is gonna go wrong for me.
Certainly no difference between 4GiB and so many TiB of data that it wouldn't even fit on most peoples harddrives.
4 GB is a huge fucking waste of space, honestly. [editline]31st October 2015[/editline]
Sad thing is, people on XP aren't getting upgraded, so Microsoft is actually only covering people who are already getting security updates. People on XP probably wouldn't have an enjoyable experience on 10 either way, but it kinda makes it harder for Microsoft to present this as pure altruism.
I have no sympathy for people voluntarily cligning onto an OS over a decade old.
What about people who have computers that do not have windows 10 drivers, what are they supposed to do? Not everybody can/ has the money to upgrade their PC or get a new one.
This just in: Windows automatically installing updates for those with automatic updates turned on. People are outraged.
I wasn't aware people were outraged, to be fair it's not just a software update it's an entire operating system.
IT Hates Him Man disables auto-updates and does not receive auto-updates Find out more

I think the only issues I've seen driver wise are my audio drivers are total shite, but they were shit on previous versions of Windows anyway because VIA are hacks.
IT Hates Him Man disables auto-updates and does not receive auto-updates Find out more
We should not have to compromise our security to not download some shit with it too.
vaccinations are a good analogy for this scenario, with WinXP machines representing unvaccinated individuals...
That's a low blow.

Only Windows 8.1 drivers work with Windows 10. I've tried it myself and windows 7 drivers will say unsupported operating system, luckily most devices that work with Windows 7 already have Windows 8.1 drivers so they usually work fine.
I love windows 10. Its a good os. Why give it bad press doing stuff like this?
Easier to monitor peoples' usage and traffic using w10 than w7; data science is da future

There's nothing you can really do to block the tracking anyway besides turning most of it off.

Even a chromebook would be good (thought privacy is not a big concern of theirs). A lot of games are supported by steam nowadays, and most people only use their machines for facebook anyways. I don't really give much of a shit about free software or privacy, but I just think that linux is all around better than windows in a technical sense
why would a user with a data cap have automatic updates on?
Oh I don't know maybe we want our OS's security measures to be up to date? I sure as fuck don't turn it on to download an entire new OS.
IT Hates Him Man disables auto-updates and does not receive auto-updates Find out more
Because he's not a chump and does not want to risk his computer bricking as was the case with Windows 2000 systems back in the day. Of course if he doesn't install them ever then you'd have a right to complain. Now that I think about it, Google's rolling release model even on its Nexuses make sense for Android. Start the first wave with a small random selection of people (and make images available for those that want to sideload/flash it ahead of when they would get selected) and then gradually increase over time. If the first few selections of people have serious issues that weren't previously discovered, stop the rollout, fix the issue, and restart the process.

They have 120 million installs now, they probably have pretty good data - and they're not even releasing this till early 2016.
Try installing a Windows 7 driver for your motherboard or anything else you'll get the operating system is not supported message.
That's usually down to the installer software, not the driver itself. I have a few devices on my motherboard that don't have Win 8.1 drivers (ancient VIA chipset), as long as I can get to the .inf from their driver package, it installs fine despite being a Windows 7 driver. Obviously there are some devices that will straight up not work with their old drivers, but rule of thumb, they work.

Higher versions will trigger a bit supported message. Point being, I have a laptop from 2006 that only has official Vista drivers and 10 is fine. Most of the drivers are covered by the generic ones anyway. Obviously XP drivers will be reaching but if your system only has XP drivers, the hardware may not be up to snuff for 10.
I don't really give much of a shit about free software or privacy, but I just think that linux is all around better than windows in a technical sense
It's not nearly so user friendly for someone who just wants to install an OS and have it work though.
