so according to this speaking and driving should be outright illegal as well as adjusting anything not necessary to the driving of your vehicle (ac/radio/etc)
You're not gonna have complete control of the car in that time dude, seriously what makes you use your phone in the car? Seriously, there's no benefit to using it in the car but you get a ton of risks with divereted attention and the fact that you have one hand on the wheel.
i dont look at my phone to hang up. i wait for the other caller to end it or i just press the end button from muscle memory. i do not need to look at my phone to use it to make calls, it's all voice commands and muscle memory.
I just hope you don't kill somebody.
I just hope you don't kill somebody.
thanks for the reply [editline]8th September 2012[/editline]
You're not gonna have complete control of the car in that time dude, seriously what makes you use your phone in the car?
I don't think he knew the speed limit since he clearly wasn't paying attention. Obviously you brake before you turn unless you want to understeer like heck
If you're disconnected from reality to the point where you don't even know what speed limit you have to be driving at (which is pretty much the same for all urban environments, except for specific cases, but none of them imply that you can drive at 50 fucking miles per hour), you don't deserve to even touch a steering wheel again. [editline]8th September 2012[/editline]
You'd be just as distracted. The brain is not designed for concentrating on more than one thing at a time.
You can totally do several things at a time. Fuck if you couldn't concentrate on more than one thing at a time you could not even both type on a keyboard and look at your screen to see what you're typing. The issue here is that people using headsets are often idiots who believe that it allows them to not give a fuck about what's going on around them, while you actually need to concentrate even more. It's like people driving super fast because they think safety belts will save their lives whatever happens.

I pray to whatever gods may be that we're never proven wrong because if we are you'll be leaving a family fucking distraught.

Why is the only rebuttal you people are offering is "hope u don't kill anyone!!"? That's fuckin arrogant to assume so much of someone. If you are incapable of driving while on the phone then you are a bad driver, I'm sorry that's the reality of this. This is a case of already poor drivers who got laws like those that prevent talking on a phone put into place. Driving and talking on a phone is probably the easiest thing I could do all day. Driving and obeying all traffic laws perfectly does not and should not require any actual effort in the first place because it should be that instinctual.

And I have also seen people do really stupid shit while on the phone but that doesn't affect me. If someone is an idiot driver on the phone then they are an idiot driver to begin with. I dunno about you guys but I know plenty of people who do this every day, much more often than me. I mean shit my dad does it in Atlanta traffic every day and he's flat out the best driver I know.
Big block V8: 8 city 14 highway Diesel V8: 15 city 20 highway Sure the fuel may cost more at the pump but it balances out. You spend less with a diesel than you do with a gasser. Nothing wrong with a throaty big block, but the diesel beats it hands down in fuel economy.
And here I have a stationwagon with a small prechamber Diesel engine and a proportionally large turbo. It's absolutely dead in the low rev's, but gets fun when the turbo wakes up from it's eternal slumber. Also Diesel cars can be modified/converted to run on vegetable oil. Even used gunk from McDonalds, though that requires some filtering and treatment first. Also in most places in Europe, fuel for a Diesel car is cheaper then gasoline, though there's a few taxes that makes them more expensive than a gasoline car if you only drive it for a short trip once or twice a weekend.

It's proven, it's a fact. [editline]8th September 2012[/editline]
And I have also seen people do really stupid shit while on the phone but that doesn't affect me. [editline]8th September 2012[/editline]
It will not ever happen to me
This takes the cake. Banning phones is doable.

Last time i checked, you are less likely to lose control if you have both hands on the wheel.
Krushelnicki told CBC that he doesn’t think he did anything extraordinary. "I don't feel like a hero at all," he said, "I believe anyone would have done that."
Apparently not, some people speed while talking on their cell.
I thought the police were going to go batshit on the hummer driver, but I'm glad they didn't.
They would if it was in the US.
I will never resent Canadians or Hummers (and likewise, their drivers) ever again.

In actuality, it fucking distracts you and diminishes the quality of your driving.
This story is a total fake, no hummer driver would take it's eyes off the mounted television in their interior with Madagascar playing. In all seriousness, that guy is a true hero, they should call him Hummerman.
It doesn't matter if you don't think it distracts you. In actuality, it fucking distracts you and diminishes the quality of your driving.
There have been times where I've just looked down at the panel briefly to change the air or radio and I've looked up to see myself starting to cruise into the other lane, or I didn't realize a car was stopping suddenly ahead of me. Luckily I always leave quite a bit of distance between myself and cars ahead for that very reason, but still.. it doesn't take much distraction to make for a potential incident. I really don't mess with anything in the car anymore unless I'm stopped at a light or what have you.
I don't think he knew the speed limit since he clearly wasn't paying attention. Obviously you brake before you turn unless you want to understeer like heck
Aren't most residential areas 30MPH zones? So even with that in mind he was going 20mph over the average limit. Which is fairly huge.
And I have also seen people do really stupid shit while on the phone but that doesn't affect me. The truth is, your reflexes are quite impaired. Might not matter most of the time, but it reduces reaction times for important situations.
What a fucking hero, that guy needs a fucking medal.
He'll probably get one too, my dad pulled a family out of a burning building, got him a medal of bravery.
Am I the only one that can talk on the phone AND drive without being completely dysfunctional? Seriously it's not hard to talk on the phone while looking straight ahead.
Am I the only one that can talk on the phone AND drive without being completely dysfunctional? Seriously it's not hard to talk on the phone while looking straight ahead.
It's when SHIT SUDDENLY HAPPENS it's a bad thing. And you NEVER know when that happens.
Am I the only one that can talk on the phone AND drive without being completely dysfunctional? Seriously it's not hard to talk on the phone while looking straight ahead.
Why does everyone keep saying this as if they're somehow magically unimpaired compared to other people? It reminds me of people who drive drunk or stoned and proclaim that they're fine or even better at it and that it's no big deal. EVERYONE is impaired in the same manner, it's only when you're in an unfamiliar situation, such as a sudden obstacle or changed road conditions due to weather or what have you, that you realize how impaired you really are while on the phone with a single hand on the wheel. There is a reason that, at least here, it's illegal.
, his insurance company will not hold him liable
The most amazing thing in this story, I think
Am I the only one that can talk on the phone AND drive without being completely dysfunctional? Seriously it's not hard to talk on the phone while looking straight ahead.
You can't. When you're talking you ARE distracted and you pose a danger to everyone else.
I saw a very close to accident with someone on their phone not 3 days ago, was walking home from work, there were some tempory traffic lights and young bloke on his phone totally doesn't see the traffic is stopped, and has to slam on the brakes and drive the car onto the pavement on the other side of the road to avoid punting the person infront up the arse. Not only that, but he had a small child in the car. Its "yeah I'm not stupid It doesn't effect me" until something does happe.
