The pony hate bandwagon is literally the dumbest bandwagon that's ever rolled into this dusty town.
Seriously you HATE people, strong passionate HATE people who like a tv show that you don't. Think about that for a second and think about how incredible dumb that is.
And no they don't "shove it in your face" they upload pictures and videos so others who also enjoy it can watch, they don't do it specifically to piss YOU off. Everyone posts pictures of things they like on the internet, i don't like world of warcraft but i don't throw a rage fit whenever somebody does something warcraft related.
Everyone just needs to calm the fuck down, and let people enjoy what the fuck they want.
Damnit I want that kind of money
If only I knew how to hack...
We would never know if someone who cured cancer was a brony because journalists don't include those kinds of details in unrelated news articles, unless they are trying to make a point of them being a brony.
You don't see scientists being described as gay or Star Trek fans when they talk about their works in mathematics unless the journalist is pushing a certain agenda.
The only time you would hear about their pony interests is from bronies desperately trying to boost the face of the fandom by showing off to outsiders.
I honestly don't see a problem with a fandom website reporting that a famous person X is a brony.
Some FP people, however, seem to have some sort of an anti-brony agenda.
I bet this article would've never been posted here if the hacker didn't call himself Pinkie Pie.
Since last year, every pony-related thread was posted with either the purpose of insulting them or starting shitstorms.
My favorite part of this is the thought that maybe the dude himself doesn't have an interest in ponies, but he uses that picture and handle on the slight off chance that he can makes assholes like you guys rage in your pants like you are.

It's just tiring to see so many of them. I watch and like a lot of shows too but I don't define myself through them. I don't hate people using a pony avatar or even calling themselves fluttershy or whatever. It's just the sheer amount of pony stuff I have to passivly consume makes me develop an allergy against it. It's not limited to the pony fanbase. Some people hate anime because of the same reason.
I'm sure if PPG/Spongebob/*insert favourite childhood cartoon here* was there instead, then the tone of this thread would be very different.
The pony thing for me is second to the fact that this guy got 60k at age 19, just for hacking Chrome. You can't deny that is pretty awesome.

It's not the show, it's the constant "LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME!" attitude.
No one cares that anyone watches a show.
I wish I had skills like this guy. He has earned so much money doing something he is good at. It makes my pocketbook jealous.
Good on hin for helping out Google.

I don't like anime and the sheer amount of content doesn't bother me, because it's not there for me it's there for those who like it.
Even though i see it everywhere i still do my best to ignore it and move on, everyone has the right to like and view what they want.

And yet, here you are, looking at him.
I find it really awesome that Google is arranging contests like this. Such an excellent way to root out browser bugs and exploits, win-win for all parties involved. I want his skills, badly. Though I'd probably pick a better-sounding name for myself if I had a career as professional hacker :v:
They've now paid this guy $60,000 twice in the same year. Why won't they just hire him already? They'd benefit from having a guy on the inside trying to break Chrome, and he'd get a job at Google. Everybody wins, right?
Maybe he's refused the offer after noticing $120k and two news stories per year is probably better than whatever job they may have for him.
Time for a new FP thread simulator!
I'm actually pretty curious as to how these people get their experience, it doesn't seem to be something that can just be readily taught; is it just a byproduct of knowing a lot about software design?

The key word is Curiosity.
As far as I can tell it's a combination of dedication to learning something inside and out and natural talent at finding exploits.
One of my long-time internet friends is 16, has found more software exploits than anyone else I know, and is entirely self taught. Every time he mentions a new project I ask him what exploit he's found this time :v:

This right here.
He improved chrome's safety and got paid a nice amount in return, but people care more about his username then what he accomplished. At the end of the day who cares what his name is, you've got a better, secure browser.
If his username was from any other show or video game, nobody would've paid any attention to it.

For me it's mostly a personal thing. I don't know why but I hate the "faces" of the ponies. They annoy me and I wish I could punch them. I don't think that they are cute at all. And I hated them from day 1 before it wasn't so wide spread. But yeah "anti-bronies" are as silly as bronies and are just enabling them by making them feel like a group that has to keep together to defend themselves against the mean bullies.
I don't even want to know what would Facepunch think if bronies find a cure for cancer.
Probably act the same way as the hepatitis B vaccine, which was made by furries.
Are Google the only people that do this kind of thing? It's a pretty smart way of making the software more secure.
facebook do this too.
facebook do this too.
many developers of anything needing security employ white hat hackers as security consultants
Oh, cool, a guy got a lot of money helping a company, thats pretty nice... WHAT!? HE LIKES APPLES!? I like oranges, so he is a bad guy, he must die!
Seriously guys, I dont care if he likes my little pony/barbie/tmnt/adventure time/anything. The only thing that I care is that he makes my browser better, and i respect him for that.
I love how the haters are all like "bronyfags ruin everything" yet they are the ones being true to what they like and have the balls to express it. Personally I'm not a fan, but I understand why it popular to more than its target audience. The hate is just pathetic.
It's not being true to what they like, it's shoving it down people's throats.

They're not putting it on yours. They're putting it on theirs, which happens to be the same fandom/type of pizza as yours.
Your attitude is:
You like animated rainbow sparkles on your pizza? Cool, but don't put it on any pizza with pepperoni, because that will ruin EVERY SINGLE PIZZA I HAVE WITH PEPPERONI FOREVER AFTER, no matter if there are rainbow sparkles or not.
Its funny how they are more people acting like fools over hating bronies than bronies making fools of themselves.
Grow up people. The attitude of "NO ONE CAN LIKE WHAT I DON'T LIKE" is childish as fuck.
What this guy did is quite the achievement. Whether he likes colorful equines or not is irrelevant.

Quit it with the fucking 'they shove it down our throats' bullshit there hasn't been a brony thread on fp since last year and the only real way you can find pony stuff anymore is if you go out and look for it.

I didn't even imply that one pony reference will ruin anything.
This is the kind of thing that I'm against.

Yeah that's because there's tight control on what bronies can post here.

Pony threads would be closed, and the OP banned.
That never even happens. Only anti-pony threads are posted on fp.

Oh wow a bunch of people acting stupid in a group. That hasn't ever been seen outside the MLP fandom. Nope. Never.
Oh and the only reason there are no pro-pony threads is because the mods don't want to sift through the shitstorm that follows, when gentlemen like yourself enter them and go on a ridiculous crusade.

Just since everyone else does it doesn't mean it's perfectly okay and not obnoxious.

Yeah, this is totally going on a crusade, okay.
I wasn't throwing around any words like "bronyfag" or "horsefucker" but criticizing how a lot of people in the fandom seem to believe that people must know their obsession.
Sure, the hate some people give to the fandom is pathetic, but the hate the fandom and the anti-anti-bronies gives back can be just as pathetic as well, you don't have to get pissed off every time someone criticizes your fandom.
