This is actually one of the better redesigned logos to come out of the minimalism movement. You are all likely wearing your nostalgia goggles too tight and will get over it with time.

I believe if you select the color you wish to erase and right click, it will only erase that color

Download Windows XP's Mspaint if you want the ability to do that. Then you can just right click with the eraser tool and it'll do the same thing. There's really no reason to use Win7 Mspaint over anything, anyway. Hey you think they'll change Mspaint again for Windows 8?
