Classical had uninspired crap just like modern music does, you just don't hear it much
I don't like bach anyway

bitches brew is far more complex, dense, and musically satisfying than a simple Bach concerto.
i like the version of the original logo they were using previously, the Windows 7 banner but with solid colors/no gradients in the flags
Who cares about the logo? I want the beta.
I'll skip that one.
Windows 9 - Following this, get.
Windows 8 - Skip
Windows 7 - Get
Windows Vista - Skip
Windows XP - Get
Not buying an OS because the logo changed, oh no

Yeah it's some BS going around. It's funny though.
In fact the tablet shot is Paul Thurrott's http://www.winsupersite.com/article/windows8/windows-8-secrets-windows-8-dropping-start-button-142236

Even though there was nothing wrong with Vista.
8 still improves on 7 on almost all aspects, it's a straight upgrade with some differences here and options to make it look like your beloved 7 if you wish.
Well yeah. Simply because the logo was shit would not be enough reason to not make me buy a good computer. I don't think anyone is seriously considering not buying windows 8 simply because they don't like this logo (which someone said was only a chinese mock-up anyway), but we do think it's awfully bland and a bad design choice for a new logo none the less.
this is like if apple were to change its logo to a grey circle.
Even though there was nothing wrong with Vista.
At launch there was though.
Remember, they removed the start button.
Developer: OH GOD That UGLY LOGO > Removes start button.
It's still an piece of art, y'know, the thing the guy he quoted claims technology has ruined? Holy fuck how did you not get that.
Anyway, this logo isn't as horrible as you lot are making it out, sure it isn't the Windows flag we all know (and the first Metro re-imagining was nice), but for once, MS are actually trying to making a unified GUI, where the elements actually fit with each other, through Metro. See how it goes, if it really fucks you off that much, just change the bloody thing with a theme hack, it won't have any impact on the OS at all.
no it really doesn't make any sense
So let me get this straight, if I'm reading this right.
A.The start button is actually still there.
B.This isn't the real logo?
Even though there was nothing wrong with Vista.
I can't play Portal 2 because Data Execution Prevention keeps shutting it down and I can't add it as an exception.
Thanks Vista.
Apple lost its colors too. I think the windows logo should stay as a flag with its colors.
I wish someone would compile a "Reasons to get Windows 8" thing of some sort to show the whiners who haven't been following the development just how much of an improvement 8 is.
For example boot speed:

If you think that's fake or cherry picked, download the Windows 8 preview builds now and try it out yourself.
It's neither fake nor cherrypicked, but I doubt you'll get those boot times if you don't have solely W8 installed.
Most of you guys will disagree with me about this, but I kind of like the logo.
But I will still be on Windows XP/7.
Why does it say they've taken the start button in the OP? It was clearly stated in the last thread about it that it was just hidden, and still worked the same way.
It's not gone, it's just transparent by default and the start menu is just full screen now.
• You can still click that and get a start menu where all your programs are listed, it now shows more by default.
• You can still hit the winkey and click on a program icon to open it.
• You can still right click to open as admin. Ctrl+Shift+Enter still works for opening as admin.
• You can still hit the winkey and start typing to search.
• You can still use it as a run dialog, even though Win+R still exists.
• You can still use it to open control panel, computer, etc.
• You can still use it to do every single thing you could before with the old start menu and old start button.
No functionality has been lost, only gained, which you don't have to use. You can use it in the same exact way you did with the old start menu, all existing functionality remains.
I really hate it when articles are written like this. Implying that Microsoft has removed a feature altogether and giving no reason as to why the decision was made. By this article it'd make you think that they just decided "Hey let's tear shit out for no reason, that'll be great" when in fact it isn't even remotely the case.

It's neither fake nor cherrypicked, but I doubt you'll get those boot times if you don't have solely W8 installed.
Well usually you rarely need any other things that throw in services and auto start on boot. Most people tend to throw down a billion things though.

Truly need, no. But e.g. Steam boots automatically for me, on a clean W7 install without anything else my W7 boots in about 10-15 seconds as well.
Breaking News: Apple sues Microsoft because of their new logo. Says they own a window that looks like it.
I'm still going to want to try Win8 before I rag on it, but they still shouldn't fuck with the logo.

Even more computer enthusiasts don't care about Linux.
Oh, so we can't have opinions in matters that don't affect us now?
No real argument? Just make shit up! You'll get zings! My point is that people are acting like this actually affects windows, not that you "can't have opinions"
No real argument? Just make shit up! You'll get zings! My point is that people are acting like this actually affects windows, not that you "can't have opinions"
It does affect windows. If they change the logo they lose brand recognition.
It might not affect the "function" of Windows, but even then, I don't think a new logo should be in Microsoft's sights.

Grasping at straws
It has nothing to do with nostalgia, the windows logo is instantly recognizable by pretty much anyone that uses a computer, there's no logical or valid reason to change it, the new logo they're proposing has nothing to do with it either and looks more like something you'd expect from some poor new business that cleans windows.
It could be worse though (see: Gap, NBC Universal, Comedy Central)
I can't play Portal 2 because Data Execution Prevention keeps shutting it down and I can't add it as an exception.

Set portal2.exe (or whatever the exe's name is) to XP compat mode, and then verify integrity of game cache.

Precisely, it's funny how many people have gone into rants over all this bullshit that's spreading around.
