Except look what science has given us. Science tells us about the big bang, which is quite different from what organized religion tells us. It's hard to believe in something when the thing that opposes it improves our life greatly and is based off of proof, when your thing has no proof and is based off of thousand year old dogmas.
Science isn't the opposite of religion I don't know when people started to think that. Guess who proposed the big bang theory? A Catholic priest. And the Vatican accepted it fully.
exactly, but it's illogical to tell people to become atheist despite the fact more could come forward
I can twist that the other way and say it's illogical to be a theist since we could disprove god tomorrow somehow.
The plot twist in favour of there being a god hasn't happened yet, so you're wrong. It's perfectly logical to be atheist given the current information.
The plot twist of explaining the origin of everything hasn't happened yet, so it's perfectly logical to believe it was a higher power. People seem to think I'm arguing for the existence of God here. I'm arguing it's illogical to accept either.
I can twist that the other way and say it's illogical to be a theist since we could disprove god tomorrow somehow.
There we have it, both are illogical.
There we have it, both are illogical.
I never conceded to your argument. My official stance on the issue is that given current information, the most logical choice is atheism.

The Pope will use his super powers.... ....Again
I can twist that the other way and say it's illogical to be a theist since we could disprove god tomorrow somehow.
exactly, but i don't see why people should ditch their team over a tie game being theist hasn't negatively affected me at all, (in fact, i'd say it actually helped me out) so why should i ditch?
To expand upon this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Lema%C3%AEtre Science and religion don't have to be opposites.
I always thought his last name had a "d" in it.
either you're WITH us, or you're AGAINST us...
I'm against both :v:
Guess who proposed the big bang theory? A Catholic priest. And the Vatican accepted it fully.
He was also a scientist. The theory was proposed using science instead of theology. It's not a religious theory.
i'm actually going to take a step forward here and say that trying to convert atheists to theists (and vice versa) is illogical, seeing as neither side (excluding the catholic can be proven, and neither side church, freaking psychos) has made life worse
exactly, but i don't see why people should ditch their team over a tie game being theist hasn't negatively affected me at all, (in fact, i'd say it actually helped me out) so why should i ditch?
I don't want you to ditch your beliefs if they help you through your life. We all delude ourselves. People just need to watch that they don't use these delusions to interfere with others. Faith is fine. It's RELIGION that needs to be wiped out.
He was also a scientist. The theory was proposed using science instead of theology. It's not a religious theory.
What I'm trying to say is you act like Big Bang disproves the concept of a god, when in fact the Vatican itself believes in it, and that religion and science are not in any way opposites.
I don't want you to ditch your beliefs if they help you through your life. We all delude ourselves. People just need to watch that they don't use these delusions to interfere with others.
but then why are you trying to disprove theism?
What I'm trying to say is you act like Big Bang disproves the concept of a god, when in fact the Vatican itself believes in it, and that religion and science are not in any way opposites.
Well the big bang is in contradiction to the bible so the vatican accepting it was more of a face-saving move
Faith is fine. It's RELIGION that needs to be wiped out.
if religion is wiped out, how will the faithful find a common ground to practice?
but then why are you trying to disprove theism?
Am I? I didn't realize I was doing that. I just said that believing in god is illogical.
if religion is wiped out, how will the faithful find a common ground to practice?
Religion in its current form needs to go. Is what I meant.
Well the big bang is in contradiction to the bible so the vatican accepting it was more of a face-saving move
But it's a move that proves they're willing to step outside of the whole "bible is 100% truth" phase and accept scientific theories into their religions.
but then why are you trying to disprove theism?
Because it's detrimental to society.
Again, the bible doesn't describe the means of creation, only that god was the cause of it.
It lays out a series of steps that god followed to create the earth and populate it, steps that could not happen during the big bang
if religion is wiped out, how will the faithful find a common ground to practice?
Do we really need a common ground?
Because it's detrimental to society.
I think you need to look up the definition of Theism, I'm pretty sure you're confusing it with religion. Being theistic is illogical but it doesn't have to be detrimental to society.
That's assuming that you take the bible literally, and it happened in 7 human days. For all we know, 7 days could have been billions of years.
That's a dumb argument. Maybe the guys that wrote the Bible corrupted it with their mortal human dumbassery.
That's assuming that you take the bible literally, and it happened in 7 human days. For all we know, 7 days could have been billions of years.
Then they should have wrote that. The bible is fiction, anyone who thinks otherwise is silly.
Richard Dawkins is a terrible atheist, He spends all his time lending legitimacy to theists by insisting on arguing with them about every thing, all the while dressing atheism up to look appealing to them and using their ethics. He needs to spend more time being for atheism instead of against religion.
That's assuming that you take the bible literally, and it happened in 7 human days. For all we know, 7 days could have been billions of years.
7 Earth days. So you think The Bible was written on some star with really long days? [editline]06:35PM[/editline] Typical of religion, to change the facts when science undermines the psuedo-science that religion claims as fact.

(I would probably fit into that category as well) Let him do what he wants.
Religion in its current form needs to go. Is what I meant.
i would actually say that only applies to organised religion
