that would cause people to go crazy though. there are millions of Catholics that would go fucking crazy if that happened including me... it is bad that he hid those cases of abuse but I think he was going off of what was taught to him from the previous popes and the church rules and whatever the fuck says how to deal with this situation.
If America killed Polands President they would cover it up as best they could.
ehh I just dont know. I think its better for the world just not to try and arrest him than it is for just a few cases to be hidden but fail.
im just rambling...
who was it that said something about
you have to give up some rights for the better being of the community

So you think a man who allowed paedophiles to abuse children should not be punished?
The amount of religious hatred in this thread is palpable.
Saw it coming.
Take the fucker down!
So you think a man who allowed paedophiles to abuse children should not be punished?
Well it's not like he said "Yeah dude, go ahead rape some children"..he just never said no - in old tradition.
I don't think the Pope's arrest would be beneficial for society and relations between religions. If the church to begin with didn't have such a privileged status it wouldn't have come this far. It wouldn't have been possible to commit such crimes and not even punish the convicted persons but instead cover up their doings.

it is a horrible thing and in a way you cant punish somebody of another nation of sorts...

exactly!
History is doomed to repeat itself.
take the American Revolution, when someone's ideas are challenged (IE Monarchy) then that causes war and shit to go down.
now its Equality for everyone and human rights vs the old ways of the church and keeping secrets
some secrets are better left unsaid? some cases but then again everything has a repercussion
I love this so much.

See OP's quote about Pinochet.

While I do see the point that it's important to maintain harmony between faiths, the Pope is (ironically) unrepentant for covering up for the paedophiles. He has dismissed the sexual abuse of 200 deaf children as "petty rumours" even when he knows full well they're not.
Not only that, but he's guilty of perjury.
The Pope’s signature is on documents discussing information to which he has denied being privy, and his involvement has been discovered in situations of which he has claimed ignorance.
The message needs to be sent out that the Catholic Church is no longer above the law. The Pope needs to be punished for concealing paedophiles.

It was really more like:
Pope: Hey mang, you raped some kids, its k, just dont tell anyone and we will help you get away with it.
If he fails, I'll molest a small black boy.

He knew it was going on and did nothing to stop it. He failed to act as innocent children were molested.
Richard Dawkins is a dickhead. The business going on with the church should be an entirely secular, police driven investigation. Dawkins is just a dickhead anti-theist so any motivation he has has fuck all to do with justice and order and everything to do with breaking religion.

hmmm I guess thats true. nobody should be above the law but yet some people still are.
Bad cops might take sides with a minority OR a majority based on how they were raised or what they have experienced. Until we can get true full justice throughout the world I think we should just keep saying on Internet Forums
"OH POPE YOU A BAD BOY CONCEALIN PAEDOFILES LIKE DAT BOY YOU BAD I HATE GOD BECAUSE YOU"
or something along those lines
[sp]thats sarcasm... kinda... maybe [/sp]

At least he has the balls to actually do something about this instead of sitting around doing fuck all like all the governments are doing because they don't want to offend anyone.

He is trying to break down religion because of shit like this. Because people think that the pope is above the law.

"The pope shouldn't be arrested for hiding child rapists because I like the pope."
This wouldn't be happening if it was John Paul II.
The worst he's done is say religion is stupid.
Fanatic. Not Extremist.
Comparing John Paul II to Benedict is like comparing Yoda to Emperor Palpatine.
Oh wait.
Both the Pope and Richard Dawkins are very silly indeed.

Criticizing something makes you a fanatic?
I don't like conservative politics, does that make me a fanatic?

yes
Well good luck with that!
I'm putting my money on that he will get the snot beaten out of him by the Vatican Police.
You also love terrorists and hate God and America.
Vote Republican

You're not making sense.
for shame, who thought that a pope could screw up so badly
I'd love to see same kinds of pictures of Popes hanging like I saw from Saddams hanging.
for shame, who thought that a pope could screw up so badly
Yeah it's weird, it's not like the other popes have ordered people to kill nonbelievers, tried to stop scientific advancement etc.

if you're going to get on about the medieval ages here, i should probably tell you right here that they were pretty screwed up back then (forks were scandalous for some reason)
society was different, and for the most part pretty weird, so all kinds of things that are considered atrocities now were a-okay back then
[editline]11:43AM[/editline]
and btw, most of the time scandalous shit meant hanging, so think of that too
