National Handegg League doesn't fall of the tongue well, and NHL is already an abbreviation for a real mans sport. GO HOCKEY!
Brits originated the one thing they bash Americans for the most? Irony!
I've never heard a Scotsman, Welshman or an Irishman say 'soccer'.

People hating because their special word is misused by the dirty foreigners.
English is a germanic language, not a romantic one.
Oh fuck, you are right. But Latin influenced english too!
Also learn how to read news articles.
I fail to see how I have not read the news article correctly. If you are going to accuse me of something, at least have the sense to back it up. Also, you're map is wrong. In many of the countries that supposedly use the word 'soccer', it is rather ambiguous and still use the word 'football' to an extent. For example, Ireland uses 'football' to refer to Association Football, Gaelic Football and Rugby.
Found a more accurate picture.
Well played, sir :golfclap: I still think Rugby is cooler than American Football... another reason is Rugby Sevens :D Pardon my ignorance, but do you americans have something like that??
Dunno how many people have seen Sports Science on FSN, not sure they show it anymore, but I remember a while ago they tested the force of a rugby tackle versus the force of an American football tackle on an episode. Found it on youtube.
Football?
Ahh AFL, what a fucking strange game
Hmm Oh cool article, maybe now the british and american users on FP can get along. *makes thread* ok ill go to sleep now *open thread the next day*
Why start such a shitstorm over something as unimportant as what to call a sport?
Football: Soccer: Besides that, nobody cares.
Why start such a shitstorm over something as unimportant as what to call a sport?

I'm just going to keep calling it football.
Precisely, let us call it by it's PROPER name.
Hmm Oh cool article, maybe now the british and american users on FP can get along.
Pointing out a Brit's hypocrisy is not the way to get along with him or her (kidding of course). And as for the statements about accents, everyone speaks with an accent. It's a product of where you've grown up and/or learned the language. Your own accent just sounds so natural to you that anyone speaking with a different one draws your attention to it. And let's not get started on which ones sound "retarded" in anyone's opinion, it just leads to flames.
Americans called it Soccer. It is football.
Oh fuck, you are right. But Latin influenced english too!
Which is why I said most. Didn't Latin influence our alphabet?
Which is why I said most. Didn't Latin influence our alphabet?
Which was influenced by the Greek alphabet which was itself influenced by the Phoenician alphabet. Ah, linguistics...
Ok i got this idea. European football and American football. End of story.
http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2010/06/the-origin-of-the-word-soccer/
Just wanna keep this where people can see it.
Football: Soccer:
we can all post accident fakings like that, also handegg is like professional wrestling in America
No, XFL was like professional wrestling, and that only lasted one season.
we can all post accident fakings like that, also handegg is like professional wrestling in America
Are you implying that "handegg" is totally awesome? If you are then you are correct.
Why start such a shitstorm over something as unimportant as what to call a sport?
because some people are insecure about the fact some people do things differently from other people?
Baseball was English.
If I had the power to I'd just call them Handegg and Soccer, I'm getting tired of the word "football" getting thrown around, and it would please the mass.
failed rugby: football:
this is how it was football originated in england why would you call a game where you use your hands on the ball football
[img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5e/Soccer_football.png[/img_thumb] Also learn how to read news articles.
This map is bullshit. We (Norway) say "Fotball".
