The Home Office says the move is key to tackling crime and terrorism
Fuck that, I'd rather live under the so called threat of terrorism than live under shit like this.
But there is no way unless they can get every country in the world in on it. Want to know who received the mail? Too bad, it was sent to a special service which will mirror it through several domains which are not affected by this legislature. Want to know the contents? I guess they have hidden computers that have ten thousand times the computing power of current ones so they can brute force some grandma's recipe email.
I don't mean it like that, I'm just saying that the governments been jonesing for this kinda capability for years and years man, it's like some unfortunate mix between Judas Priests "Electric Eye" and "The Ear" and "The Eye" from V for Vendetta type shit they want.
Oh well, hopefully more people will switch to tor and run exit nodes building a faster network. Encrypt all your emails, doesn't matter if i'm discussing what i had for tea or plans to smuggle six tonnes of coke in, nobody else should be able to read it.
Fuck that, I'd rather live under the so called threat of terrorism that live under shit like this.
They always use terrorism as an excuse just like Bush did.
fuck this country
Damnit America, since you tried everyone wants to do it now.
fuck this shit, they'll be putting CCTV in the shitter next.
This is stupid. I was hoping it was an April Fools joke.
This is stupid. I was hoping it was an April Fools joke.
Don't worry, we all were.
How the fuck did they sneak this one past? I don't want the goverment watching me fap, what if they started fapping to what I'M fapping too. It'd be like a weird long distance circle jerk.
How the fuck did they sneak this one past?
It's not past Parliament or Lords yet. I'm pretty sure Lords won't let it pass.
It's not past Parliament or Lords yet. I'm pretty sure Lords won't let it pass.
It's actually comical as fuck how the House of Commons actually started off as a way to save the working man from the tyranny of the House of Lords, and now the Lords are the sensible ones for the most part.
If this affects everyone, then shouldn't there be a referendum over this? Also, thousands of people die from heart disease each year but less than 60 people have died of terrorism in the last seven years. Yet, the government feels that we should cut funding from the thousands an give it to the tens. Fuck them!
Any organisation with the resources and motivation to pull off a terrorist attack will not make use of the internet in such a way that it risks compromise to the operation. So I guess 'terrorism' is just an excuse to take a step towards a totalitarian government.
Better goddam be a april fools joke.
"The shadow home secretary at the time, Chris Grayling, said the government had "built a culture of surveillance which goes far beyond counter terrorism and serious crime"." Heeey! This man I like. We should put more of these guys in the government.
they are gonna do this in sweden beginning in may, its suck balls
NEVER AGAIN WILL TERRORISM PREVAIL tHANK YOU BRITAIN FOR SAVING ME FROM MYSELF
Seems fishy to post such IMMENSE news on such a fine day.
Seems fishy to post such IMMENSE news on such a fine day.
But the BBC normally do something funny If this turns out to be a joke, no one will be laughing anyway
Well fuck. There goes my horse porn.
Nice sensationalist headline (I blame the BBC, their article had a similar headline and my heart skipped a beat when I read it). The bill hasn't even been announced yet. I hope that if and when it does get announced that parliament kill it with fire. It does seem the last time someone tried something like this the government (labour at the time) got defeated. [editline]1st April 2012[/editline]
I thought with RIPA they could see anyone's internet usage for the last 2 years. And I see there using the old "Sure, were taking away your rights but were doing it so you stay safe" argument. Only 56 people in the UK have been killed by terrorism in the last 7 years, yet they still think that its a major issue for people in the UK, why don't they focus on real problems.
RIPA requires court orders and stuff, and I don't think its real time. This would give GCHQ complete access to everything in real time.
But the BBC normally do something funny If this turns out to be a joke, no one will be laughing anyway
That's what anyone would say to a practical joke they don't like.
Seems fishy to post such IMMENSE news on such a fine day.
I think they already did an article on the world exploding.
I'm not in the UK, but my heart goes out to you - This monitoring means any emails/texts/ect I send to my friends over the pond essentially get posted to the GCHQ's new "news" feed. Also, anyone thinking this is too much data to process: Wrong, it can be automated. I have written ML (machine learning) stuff as just homework assignments that parse through millions of pieces of data (like human DNA) on my crappy laptop. The professor that taught that same ML class made a bot that tracks flu using twitter (he parsed ~500 million posts on regular computers). Replace keywords involving sickness with something else and you'll find emails on just about any topic you'd like, or that the government dislikes.
fuck this shit, they'll be putting CCTV in the shitter next.
err there already is in many pubs and clubs. [editline]1st April 2012[/editline]
Seems fishy to post such IMMENSE news on such a fine day.
what? i've read tonnes of snippets leading up to this, it has been mentioned many times. unless i'm an absolute dumb shit, it seems a pretty bland april fools joke.
Is it really that hard to Google porn? I do it like nearly everyday.
I'm sorry, but i'm not worried at all, there are 60 million odd people in this country with the possibility of having more phones, email addresses than 1, it's simply impossible to achieve. And even if they do manage this there'll be too much false positives, people joke about random things all the time, if there is something that picks out keywords in sentences, well, Good luck picking fake/joke ones from a very small majority of real ones.
