Hey guys, I'm gonna organize a terrorist organization on Facebook!

They really outdone themselves this year.
I feel like watching V for Vendetta again.
It's such a wonderful fairytale.
It'll be a reality in one day.
This is even worse than the American's Protect IP act. The PIP at least respects your privacy and only scans for potential piracy data transmitted through torrents, but being able to monitor every communication made to protect against "terrorism" is pure absurd.
You people are exaggerating what really isn't that big of a deal. The article wording is slightly to blame but you're once again all angry at an article with the focus being on conservatives.
What this would give the state the ability to do is effectively a police search warrant so they can view a specific person's information, which is entirely not what you all think it is, which is recording every little thing you do. The comments on the BBC article made my eyes roll so far back it's scary,"oh it's becoming like 1984!!" Seriously could people that say this shut up? They're obviously clueless.
Secondly, the police can ALREADY DO THIS by getting a search warrant for your house, breaking down your door, and taking all your electronics. The only difference is that gives you some possible time to delete any illegal shit you were doing or trash your HDD. Now why would you trash your HDD if you weren't doing anything illegal? You wouldn't delete all your emails if you weren't doing anything illegal. Why would the police be breaking down your door if you weren't doing anything illegal? Well, they wouldn't be searching your email if you weren't doing anything illegal. It's exactly the same thing.
Lastly, you all seem to think that the government has some horrible plans to destroy your lives and make you miserable. Either that, or you frequently do illegal things with the internet such as drug purchases, hacking, or terrorism. No? Then nothing to worry about. The government does this to keep you safe because you follow the law and aren't doing anything to harm anybody.
All your information is already on multiple places all over the world under different companies so if you have anything there you don't trust them with or don't want anybody to see then that's your own fault and you should either stop using the internet or stop breaking the law. Once again, those companies are probably doing more questionable things with your information than any government would.
People really need to take a step back from the OPPOSE THE GOVERNMENT DAMN TORIES stance.
I hate people like you. I also hate the police and the government.
There's a big if in the "if they find out".
EU laws are present in the UK also because the UK is a part of the EU
What are they going to do? Kick UK out? Don't think so.

They will fine them about 10k Euros every day or so, might have been 100k; as they did with us when we didn't accept it.

Right under our fucking noses.
Why do we put up with this shit?

Oh right
ENGLAND PREVAILS!
V for Vendetta anyone?
Fuck that.
How do they make sure every email goes through a system? How do they break your encryption? There's no way it could work.
The NSA already does this with the vast majority of domestic communications in the US, and they have been for the past decade or so since 9/11. The NSA has monitoring taps all over the US at key network infrastructure points.
Not to mention they're constructing a fuckhuge data center with a stupidly powerful supercomputer out in the middle of nowhere in Utah. There's also branch facilities (like the one here in Hawaii) all over the US. They're also not just monitoring domestic communications but tons of foreign ones as well.
The NSA is already watching you guys, now your own government will too, unless this is a very poor April Fools joke.
I hate people like you. I also hate the police and the government.
Wow, that's quite sad. Why do you hate me?

1) Not wanting to be heard doesn't imply that the activity is necessarily illegal.
2) The government has the capacity to destroy my life and make me miserable, and when its goals intersect with that capacity I anticipate they will act on it. It's easy to do horrible things when you only see the statistics.
3) This will not stop terrorism or child pornography in any way. Encryption exists, exploits exist, offline methods exist.
4) It works both ways.

What?? Where did anybody mention anything about censoring free speech? This is about combating criminal activity not ruining your life.
You people are exaggerating what really isn't that big of a deal. The article wording is slightly to blame but you're once again all angry at an article with the focus being on conservatives.
Alright, I'm going to dissect your post chunk by chunk, And explain how you are wrong as hell. Firstly, The Conservatives have made incredibly wrong decisions since they've got in, and have shown themselves to be incompetent and incapable of handling certain aspects of modern life and government, Just look at the tanker driver strike for an example.
What this would give the state the ability to do is effectively a police search warrant so they can view a specific person's information, which is entirely not what you all think it is, which is recording every little thing you do.
I won't begin with this comment because it's obvious you've never even read the article.
The comments on the BBC article made my eyes roll so far back it's scary,"oh it's becoming like 1984!!" Seriously could people that say this shut up? They're obviously clueless.
While it isn't anything like 1984, It is still a massive invasion of privacy which won't benefit anyone at all.
Secondly, the police can ALREADY DO THIS by getting a search warrant for your house, breaking down your door, and taking all your electronics.
Mhm, And that's only with legal reason and grounds to do so. This means they can just spy on you at any time freely with no need for said warrants. It's walking backwards not forwards.
The only difference is that gives you some possible time to delete any illegal shit you were doing or trash your HDD. Now why would you trash your HDD if you weren't doing anything illegal?
Edit: Actually that's an awful point.
You wouldn't delete all your emails if you weren't doing anything illegal. Why would the police be breaking down your door if you weren't doing anything illegal? Well, they wouldn't be searching your email if you weren't doing anything illegal. It's exactly the same thing.
Do you honestly believe terrorists use unencrypted easily-accessible channels in order to discuss plans? Encryption exists and is rife.
All your information is already on multiple places all over the world under different companies so if you have anything there you don't trust them with or don't want anybody to see then that's your own fault and you should either stop using the internet or stop breaking the law. The most advertising companies have more often than not is your search habits. And that's about it. It's not someone constantly checking all inbound and outbound traffic.
People really need to take a step back from the OPPOSE THE GOVERNMENT DAMN TORIES stance.
So if we dislike the government we can't oppose it? That is not democracy, That is fascism.
Okay government you can stop being so stupid now.
What?? Where did anybody mention anything about censoring free speech? This is about combating criminal activity not ruining your life.
if you can't see how they're exactly isomorphic I'm not sure how you're intelligent enough to breathe
[editline]2nd April 2012[/editline]
oh and if you're so confident that you're alright with the government looking through your internet history, why not upload a copy of it plus your inbox, so that facepunch can have a look through? in fact, you should be even more willing to let us look, since we don't have the power to arrest you or anything

That is literally the most ridiculous argument against this I've seen. Although Drsalvador is still wrong he argued against my post properly and raised good points.
Why would I not upload my email for facepunch? Because you would steal from me. The government isn't interested in logging into my email and stealing from me, but facepunch would.
May I also note that you have entirely the wrong idea on this. This legislation would give the state the power to monitor only traffic data, I assumed this would be in the BBC article but I suppose not since they're desperate for creating fear.
Although Drsalvador is still wrong he argued against my post properly and raised good points.
So, my points are good and valid, Yet also wrong? What?!
Why would I not upload my email for facepunch? Because you would steal from me. The government isn't interested in logging into my email and stealing from me, but facepunch would.
Because everyone in the government is 100% incorruptible! They certainly can't be paid off to steal from you for unscrupulous people, Won't steal from you, and there certainly isn't evidence of people in the government accepting bribes!

Traffic data is still fucking expository data, it would show what ip's access your connection at all times of the day, and the relevant name attached to said IP.
Fuck this country. We're turning into more and more of a police state everyday. Hope America'll have me once I get my degree.
Please don't come here.
Please.
We are as bad as the UK.

just ignore AngryChair, hes a massive troll.
Airstrip One
Airstrip One
Because current life is equivalent to 1984, where your entire existence is fear and terror, knowing you will be eventually vaporized by cold, unfeeling stormtroopers.
"THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM!"
halfway down the first page
"fuck we're morons"
Yet a friend of mine in England died about a month ago and the police have no leads or ideas how he was killed. All their cameras and restrictions don't seem to be doing jack shit.
