I imagine a big part of this is because of the iPhone 6's NFC capabilities
nope - you can't use it in the UK [editline]8th February 2015[/editline] sainsburys have the tech for contactless but refuse to enable it, spoke to a staff member and they said they were meant to have it enabled about 6 months ago :v: [editline]8th February 2015[/editline] my local tesco metro has it tho and it's the best ever. so many £3 meal deals
I never carry cash and when l lend people money they pay it back almost immediately through Barclays PingIt. It's brilliant.
I can go buy a $250 Visa "Vanilla" Gift Card at any gas station and use however much I want per day, no registration required.
The only problem with contactless payment with card is that proper identification isn't needed, so if someone had stolen your card, could freely use your cash /credit as they please (unless you're smart enough to block it in time).
This is how it already works in the US (our credit/debit card security practices are terrible). So the difference is you swipe or don't swipe. Pretty much nobody except for a couple stores use contactless anyhow though. Even more interesting is my debit card from 2008 had contactless, but my new one doesn't.
We have that in the uk, but its only if you're out and you've lost your card so have no money
With RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland), the mobile app lets you do the same kind of requests whenever you like (without having to speak to anyone). You type in (for example) £20, it gives you a code to put into an atm along with the amount you requested and it gives you the money. Really handy if you don't have your wallet on you.
Have yet to encounter an RFID terminal here in Germany. Would love to use my phone to pay.
Contactless is pretty much all I use, when my bank statements arrive - it's 3 pages of contactless payments at my work
