Other countries in this weird blue ball we call home have managed to implement socialised services to provide the bare minimum humans really should be entitled to without devolving into facist hellholes or just failing as countries. The "free market" isn't an answer to core needs such as healthcare and basic food provision. It will corrupt and effectively fuck those most in need over. Collusion and corruption have always been rife in capitalist markets due to the nature of competition.

The USA During FDR's new deal, a set of policies inspired by socialist principles, drove up employment and quality of life during the great depression, and arguably the economy improved. Until Reagan, the top rate of tax in the US was 80-90% or so, but the US was one of the strongest economies on the planet. The UK around the same period, during a time of incredible economic hardship, created an incredibly effective welfare state and the best national healthcare system on the planet, at least until the 80s when we started electing right wingers again. We didn't have people lining up at foodbanks (until the conservatives got popular again) or have insane inflation. Most of Europe has socialised policies and is doing incredibly well.
