how about we cut $50 billion dollars from the ridiculous military budget, and give each state a billion dollars to use for public education.
Only if the Texas school board gets a serious overhaul by some people a tad less retarded.
Completely agree. My math teacher last year didn't even teach, she just gave you the formula and told you to memorize it. They need to get proper teachers, that will do their job properly
I had a history teacher last year that copied most of the notes he taught with from fucking Wikipedia. The tests he gave were copied from various other schools' websites. And this man was assigned the job of teaching an honors placement class? What the fuck?
Do you guys spend like the first quarter playing catchup?
I do.
I just got D's on two tests today since I was rusty over the summer.
Sure, I will probably have C's and B's by the end, but if I was better educated I probably wouldn't have been rusty.
maybe you just have downs and cant remember such simple shit that the schools teach you.
"hey i disagree with you, RETARD"
Only if the Texas school board gets a serious overhaul by some people a tad less retarded.
In my opinion, it's a bit stupid each state has a different education. Everyone should be able to learn the same thing in each state, not something different, it's silly.
"hey i disagree with you, RETARD"
ya because you obviously cant remember 2+2 :(.

texas school board = really really really really REALLY shitty
I fully support lengthening the school year, as it would eliminate the period of the year when you forget everything you learned the previous year.
Hell, winter break is too long for me.
I grow potatoes.
The guy down the street does too.
I have the best potatoes around, but I only grow half of what the other guy does.
Just because he grows more potatoes doesn't make them taste any better.
Catch my drift?
Teachers have their hands tied with "no child left behind act" get rid of that shit

It would be nice if we had a national standard, but there's a lot kids in inner city schools that have absolutely no concern for educating themselves that fuck everything up for everyone else.

No, because while you think your potatoes are best, the rest of the world sees them as rotten.
I don't care that the school system is okay as it is, because it can STILL be improved.
You know what poor kids do on those 3 months off? Deteriorate. They are not in sports camp, or space camp, or taking violin lessons, or anything productive, because their parents cannot afford to keep them occupied.
They spend 3 solid months attached to a non educational schedule, and what they learned literally leaves them.
I didn't fail due to lack of interest in classes they give, but because I didn't have enough time!
Yeah kids will totally love going to school longer at the expense of their summer vacation.
Seriously, if that were to happen where I live, students would just not give a fuck and skip the month as if it were still part of their vacation or they'd go to school and fuck around all day.
Forcing shitty, useless and boring subjects on to the kids for an extra month isn't going to make the situation any better.

i dont need a winter break so i can remember algebra 1/2!!!!!!!!!!!!
There really are only three ways to (Possibly) improve things:
Fire all the current bad teachers and train new, better ones (Nearly impossible), change society multi-culturally to make education extremely important to everyone (Impossible) or just make kids go to school longer (Easy)
I understand we need to keep up with other countries but he really needs to stop this.... At this point in time we are at the greatest deficit in history. We need to focus on that BEFORE we start spending more money. I mean he has spent more money in his presidency then the past 3 presidents combined. Plus he wants to spend billions more reforming health-care, and education at the same time. Whats next?
What we need to do is spend a good 5 years focusing on our budget problems. We can't afford to spend like this with the economy the way it is. At this point we are digging a hole that at this point we wont be able to pay off and will have to pass onto the next generation. We need to stop, give the economy some time to rebuild and work on that debt.
I got a better idea
6 Weeks of school, 2 weeks off, All Year, every year

Year-round schools aren't just 100% school all year. They have a "track" system where certain "tracks" of students get a month off every 2 or 3 months. (At least my old school did.)

adding a month will only increase apathy and hate towards school
believe me the school year is long enough as it is
Teachers have their hands tied with "no child left behind act" get rid of that shit
How about no.
Maybe we should go back to the 'good old days' when an alarming percentage of current and previous generation parents have trouble with English and Maths because they were just treated as slow and stupid.
That'll help improve things!

Who gives a fuck if they like it or not, it is for their own good. This is the difference between trying to be your kid's friend and being the parent they need.
And those kids that skipped the month would fail, and drop out, and work at McDonald's or work construction for the rest of their lives. This is fine because we need ditch diggers and burger flippers.
.

So by your explanation, I am poor then because I don't do sports or space camp?
I guess I am then, even though my mom can afford to keep me occupied, but I choose not too.
That makes me poor? :downs:

Seriously, this man speaks the truth. Most kids in the school I go to don't give a fuck about it anyway. Tacking on another month isn't going to help them get a better education, it would just push them even further away from school.

what good is it if everyone fucks around for that month?

That's fucking dumb. Our education system is a goddamn hole and we need more money.
My highschool lost busing, air-conditioning, freshmen sports, and three teachers were fired last year; we're using middle school textbooks too.
It would be nice if we had a national standard, but there's a lot kids in inner city schools that have absolutely no concern for educating themselves that fuck everything up for everyone else.
So then make it law that you either go to school, or at the age of 18 if you haven't gone to school you must...
A. Have a Job
or
B. Get drafted into the military
On the other hand, if you do go to school, you get financial aid for college, and don't have to go to the military unless you want to.
Fuck these kids who ruin it for everyone else, seriously.
And those kids that skipped the month would fail, and drop out, and work at McDonald's or work construction for the rest of their lives. This is fine because we need ditch diggers and burger flippers.
Hey, and you'll never guess what countries we're competitive with for those jobs!
Seriously, you're right. If you don't get educated to atleast a moderate standard, you're fucked.
Scrap Standard of Learning
Learn more stuff

the problem is taking the easy solution and saying "go to school longer" isn't go to do jack shit. dropout rates will stay the same, nothing will really improve.
fuck, there have been some schools that have 4 day weeks instead of 5 and they do better.
