His daughters will hate him if he does this.
Aww.. well too bad! You try going to work and telling your boss that without 3 months of vacation a year you won't be as happy as you can possibly be.
Let's see how he responds, eh?
It's life, and it is part of growing up.
:downs: I think you just countered yourself. Yes, getting a break between school years is, in fact, a part of growing up. Not only is the break necessary for advancement of life skills like jobs, etc, but naturally you expect kids in school to have more breaks than adults with jobs.
how is it a job when its so easy to pass the classes, i dont see why your bitching about you not having enough time to remember simple shit that they give to you to remember for graduation exams and EQT's or whatever the fuck they call them in your area.
It's easy because you might have a higher mental capacity and thus are above the one-size-fits-all curriculum.
Trust me, it'll get harder after you get out of junior high.
It is a system meant to teach people of a lot of different intelligence/maturity levels, so it is bound to seem a little easy to those of a higher level.

Back off guys, we've got a straight A grade super student here.
Good thing I'm a senior :D
It will be time put to waste. When summer comes around no one wants to be in school and give it very little effort. They need to actually make the education/teaching system better than this sorry excuse we have now.

it's funny how you assume people that call you out aren't in high-school, you don't have to do anything but pay attention for the main lesson in the class and can fuck around; the only thing that can make you fail is be lazy, which you obviously are.

How did I just counter myself? Why should we treat young adults specially when we want them to become adults soon? I had a job all the way through high school, and I did not need summer break to work on because I did it year round.
The break is not necessary, you just want it because you feel like you need it.
Teachers have their hands tied with "no child left behind act" get rid of that shit
God that was a stupid idea. Who was the genius who came up with schools with lower grades get less funding? It's completely backwards, and only widens the education gap...
My theory on what would happen on an extended school year.

How am I obviously lazy? And I assumed you were in Jr high because you certainly seem to have the mindset of a 13 year old.
My school raised the bar even higher. I've already found myself struggling to balance sports and schoolwork.

because you said you cant remember shit over winter break? and my mind-set is much higher but ty for ur concerns.
Adding another month would effectively add on a little more than an extra school year before you graduate. That just means you are walking with that much extra education under your belt.

That is a good point, many of the students at my school in sports or extracurricular activities struggle. The notion of homework should disappear if a month is added to the school year cycle.
Sounds bad, all the teachers did was troll me with homework by churning it out daily making me miserable - sometimes they gave out so much homework that the entire lesson was based just on doing homework and learning nothing maybe if they had more time they could teach people something maybe they'll just waste more time.
American children are stupid, spoiled, incompetent brats compared to most of the developed world. Quit bitching and deal with it.
The only actual problem is that school funding has been raided to pay for so much bullshit that schools can barely stay open for the year as it is.
why?
our school systems suck, we need more time in the year
Ugh
Are you one of those people that dont have anything to do over the summer?
FreakyMe, i don't think you ever read my post a page back
guys if you dont understand what im getting at right now, here's a comparison
you have a pile of shit
you are trying to clean it up
you throw more shit on it
it's the same fucking thing here
you have a shit school system
you want to make it better
you pile on more pointless days
IT WONT MAKE ANYTHING BETTER
IT'S GOING TO MAKE THINGS WORSE
Glad to not be an american.
I will be smug every single day of the week that I'm on vacation, on a job, earning money, while american kids will be wasting their time in a classroom.
Not that I really do much in class either, I played WoW for 2 hours in class today.

I did not say I can not remember things, I just feel like the break is too long. It puts me out of the rhythm of working 5 days a week on improving my education.
Also, how is your mind-set much higher? I seriously doubt you are older than 15. I am 20 and in my 2nd year of college, as a full time all year round student.

Oh nice fucking generalisation
In my district last year, we had some shitty ass program where all the lessons were compacted so fucking much it was impossible to learn. For some unknown reason basically the entire school year's worth of learning material was compacted down to about 2 months of plans. It was terrible and I learned next to nothing because I was being overloaded. Luckily it was removed before everyone failed.
right when i thought obama was getting better
Ah huh. I am sure that if this happens everyone will be fine with it. And nothing will go wrong, no riots, no explosions, no death threats. Nuthin. Seriously, I like Obama and all... but if he SERIOUSLY thinks people would be okay with this.... then... well that's just wrong.
FreakyMe, i don't think you ever read my post a page back
That is because your post is completely incoherent and illogical.
By your logic we should abolish school because it is a flawed system.

I find it stupid that you generalize an entire country of children. There are smart kids and fucking retarded kids. Every country has them. No country is genetically smarter or stupider. Now kindly shut up.
because you said you cant remember shit over winter break? and my mind-set is much higher but ty for ur concerns.
Uh, there's legitimate research that suggest kids forget things over summer break.
Applying this shit to yourself proves nothing.

Notice how he doesn't respond to any of the posts saying just that.

stop responding to this good fellow, he's merely trying to incite rage
and he's succeeding
There's actually a quite interesting TED lecture on this.
Basically if you want better schools, you have to reward teachers that teach well (have students that score well in generalized tests), and have more interactive classes.
