Don't extend school. Train better teachers and staff.
Uh, there's legitimate research that suggest kids forget things over summer break. Applying this shit to yourself proves nothing.
nah just lazy.
That is because your post is completely incoherent and illogical. By your logic we should abolish school because it is a flawed system.
no you don't fucking understand what im saying school has problems that need fixing, but slapping on an extra month will make these problems worse
Glad to not be an american. I will be smug every single day of the week that I'm on vacation, on a job, earning money, while american kids will be wasting their time in a classroom. Not that I really do much in class either, I played WoW for 2 hours in class today.
Good luck passing highschool.
God that was a stupid idea. Who was the genius who came up with schools with lower grades get less funding? It's completely backwards, and only widens the education gap...
The bigger joke is that in our state the tests to determine the funding don't count towards anything for you. Most people scribble in answers in about an hour then call in sick and drive home. The program is seriously stupid. We did just fine back in the 90's before all this stupid test bullshit came up. Its done nothing but drag us down
-snip- facespasm.
I find it stupid that you generalize an entire country of children. There are smart kids and fucking retarded kids. Every country has them. No country is genetically smarter or stupider. Now kindly shut up.
http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2008/11/19/US-slipping-in-education-rankings/UPI-90221227104776/ Yeah, we suck.
American children are stupid, spoiled, incompetent brats compared to most of the developed world. Quit bitching and deal with it. The only actual problem is that school funding has been raided to pay for so much bullshit that schools can barely stay open for the year as it is.
And with this post, it is clear you don't belong in this thread, where we are having a relatively intellectual debate.
no you don't fucking understand what im saying school has problems that need fixing, but slapping on an extra month will make these problems worse
I do understand what you are saying. The school system is nearly broken for how many flaws it has, the short school year being one of them. While there are many things that need fixing, the easiest in the current situation would be to lengthen the school year, and then begin working on everything else. In 12 years of education in a lengthened school year, you will have an additional year of classroom time to be grateful for at the end of your schooling.
No child left behind is a joke which is holding everyone else back. Not everyone can be a brain surgeon.
I had a history teacher last year that copied most of the notes he taught with from fucking Wikipedia. The tests he gave were copied from various other schools' websites. And this man was assigned the job of teaching an honors placement class? What the fuck?
A fucking honors class? WHAT THE FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK.
Also. This is like a fucking flashback from an essay I wrote a month ago from a standardized essay for my school district. Extending the school year does not promise results. Just because you get better teachers and have more time for students, doesn't mean that kids(sounds strange saying that) will want to do better.
By your logic we should abolish school because it is a flawed system.
Yeah, it is. Sorry to burst any wonderful idea you had of the incredibly efficient and useful school system, but school in its current form doesn't do a whole lot for its students. College is about as close as we have to an actual, functioning, helpful education system right now. Might I suggest these three books as reading material to replace the time you spend loving up the school system? Edit: Also, preparing for boxstorm and "you must do terribly in school herp a derp"
America has more people, thus more room for retards.
Except they compare countries in percentage.

Car Salesman has a point. During my visit in Germany in the exchange program, I was winded by how all the students kept up to the high education standards. Sure, they put off homework to a later time like most teens, but they still dealt with what they had going on at school.
Good thing I'm done with high school in 2011 :smugdog: If the school year is extended, more people would be likely to drop out, I think. I'd support longer total school years if students had 2-3 week long breaks spaced out over the year plus (shorter than current, 4-8 weeks) summer breaks. That would interfere with people that need summer jobs, though.
nah just lazy.
Yes, because not being you is just laziness.
Well if it is one, then how about we prioritize and fix the curriculum first before going after length changes?
Because currently the length is the easiest problem to fix. As the first step towards reform, it would help pave the way for further improvements.
Sometimes I think it'd be better if you had school the whole year with minimal holidays BUT with muuuch shorter days and only 4 days out of 7
Well if it is one, then how about we prioritize and fix the curriculum first before going after length changes?
That is what I'm wanting first. Streamline what we have, then add on some extra time in school. Regardless, a shout out to the other graduates of 2011, I hope the economy has mercy on you. We will be one of the first generations to be in conditions worse than our previous generations since the Great Depression.
No, because while you think your potatoes are best, the rest of the world sees them as rotten.
You missed the point.

Patient America: doctor my leg is broken I need help Doctor Obama: maybe if we make your leg 1 foot longer it will work better
I had a history teacher last year that copied most of the notes he taught with from fucking Wikipedia. The tests he gave were copied from various other schools' websites. And this man was assigned the job of teaching an honors placement class? What the fuck?
The honors teachers in my schools are the greatest teachers around. My English teacher asked the class why heroin usage should be illegal and they were like  and I was like :v:
Yes, because not being you is just laziness.
how is learning where to place commas, apostrophes, colons, semi-colons, basic grammar that can be easily fixed, relevant mathematical equations that can actually help you, and any other miscellaneous information you've been provided hard?
Because currently the length is the easiest problem to fix. As the first step towards reform, it would help pave the way for further improvements.
But fixing the length of it isn't fixing anything at the moment because now kids will be even less inclined to go to that last few months of school.
Except they compare countries in percentage.
I'm pretty tired at the moment, so I'll try to rationalize my thought. Let's say America has ohhh 1 million students. Britain has 3 hundred thousand. (Made up numbers mind you.) Out of those million students, 400,000 had bad teachers and poor education all around. While the Brit's only had lets say 25,000 students like that, because of the lower population lower percent of retard rate.
