Patient America: doctor my leg is broken I need help Doctor Obama: maybe if we make your leg 1 foot longer it will work better
you might be from the OIFY but you're one of the smarter people in this thread god dammit
Yes, because not being you is just laziness.
He's somewhat correct, most of us are lazy to take the initiative to do work and we would rather play videogames instead.. Then again, there is a reason why it's called "Summer Break".
Sometimes I think it'd be better if you had school the whole year with minimal holidays BUT with muuuch shorter days and only 4 days out of 7
That is also a system that could work, but sans the shorter days. A year round school with 4 weeks in summer, 1 for Thanksgiving, 3 for Christmas, and of course one day observation of all national holidays with 4 day school weeks would be a great improvement over what we currently have. It would not be the best, but it would be an improvement.
Patient America: doctor my leg is broken I need help Doctor Obama: maybe if we make your leg 1 foot longer it will work better
That, actually works kinda well.
I'm pretty tired at the moment, so I'll try to rationalize my thought. Let's say America has ohhh 1 million students. Britain has 3 hundred thousand. (Made up numbers mind you.) Out of those million students, 400,000 had bad teachers and poor education all around. While the Brit's only had lets say 25,000 students like that, because of the lower population lower percent of retard rate.
Except percentages don't work like that. They are a uniform system of measuring two dissimilar things.
how is learning where to place commas, apostrophes, colons, semi-colons, basic grammar that can be easily fixed,
If that's your idea of an English class then I pity your class.
relevant mathematical equations that can actually help you, and any other miscellaneous information you've been provided hard?
Same here.
As much of a fantastic idea this is, i don't like it quite a bit. As is i am embarrassed by our education system, we had an exchange student last year who was in my grade level, but kicked everyone's ass academically. I'm not even trying in school and i still maintain a 3.5 gpa. I'm failing math while keeping a 3.5 gpa. This might actually also lead to more drop outs. Some kids are that stupid and ignorant "FUK DAT I AINT STAYING IN SKOOL 4 A EXTRA MONTH FUK U OBAMA ILL DROPOUT ND SHW U!"

If you shorten the summer then shorten vacations you're basically confining people to a limited span in which they can have fun.
If that's your idea of an English class then I pity your class. Same here.
if you say so buddy while im passing all these classes with an extra month durping about.
Because currently the length is the easiest problem to fix. As the first step towards reform, it would help pave the way for further improvements.
Well maybe they should fix a problem that won't make every student in the country hate school even more. Maybe spend money on better, more hands-on teachers that kids actually like. Or better learning material that isn't from the cold war era.
He's somewhat correct, most of us are lazy to take the initiative to do work and we would rather play videogames instead..
Patient America: doctor my leg is broken I need help Doctor Obama: maybe if we make your leg 1 foot longer it will work better
Maybe this. Patient America: doctor my leg is broken I need help Doctor Obama: walk it off you bitch-ass
He's somewhat correct, most of us are lazy to take the initiative to do work and we would rather play videogames instead.. Then again, there is a reason why it's called "Summer Break".
Back in the day when public education was still young, summer break was actually when students would go help their family tend to crops.

What is the cause of the bad teachers then?
Except percentages don't work like that. They are a uniform system of measuring two dissimilar things.
I'm too tired to make my case so I'll just state it.. British people are the same as American. We came from them. No one is smarter or stupider. Everyone's born different etc.
Or maybe just actually get an education system that works for the kids, and not just the majority.
Well maybe they should fix a problem that won't make every student in the country hate school even more.
how is learning where to place commas, apostrophes, colons, semi-colons, basic grammar that can be easily fixed, relevant mathematical equations that can actually help you, and any other miscellaneous information you've been provided hard?
He's not saying that it's hard, he's saying that they forget most of the things they learn in a subject in summer. They do remember the key topics, but most of the time, they don't know anything besides the key topics they've learn. School is pretty easy to get A's in if you have a majority of people who aren't willing to succeed. Which is why they give you "curves", or when they boost up everyone's grade since a majority of people aren't passing.
Wonder how long this turns from a relatively intellectual debate into an all out flame\troll fest?
if you say so buddy while im passing all these classes with an extra month durping about.
Seriously, what don't you understand about the fact that I don't give a shit about what you're doing. If you're going to make an argument apply to it a nationwide scale.
That makes no sense at all. What is the cause of the bad teachers then?
lack of student interest. "bad day" teachers. teachers that are there to just get paid anything they can get. teachers who just want to be dicks. teachers not being given enough time to fully teach lessons they want to give students. the list goes on.
I'm pretty sure countries like China give fake statistics regarding their education.
Why not, the more people drop = the less idiots there is to ugly the statistics.
Wonder how long this turns from a relatively intellectual debate into an all out flame\troll fest?
i give it one more page
people are the same.....Everyone's different...
Get to bed
Get to bed
:frown: I meant to say that British and American's are pretty much the same.
Why not spend money on better funding for the amount of days schools currently last instead of spending all the money for education in one blow on extending the school year? Students aren't going to be as motivated if they're going to be forced to spend even more hours in school with the same amount of homework and shit with the same crappy supplies they're given for education. If you don't want to bother spending that money you have laying around to extend the school year, then at least pay teachers more so that they'll be willing to teach better for their salaries. I've had (and have) teachers who just don't give a shit and I know it's because of how terrible my district's funding is. Quality over quantity, Mr. President. Obama, I am disappoint yet again.
why? our school systems suck, we need more time in the year
No we don't, we need more supportive parents and teachers that don't suck. Extending the year will only lower morale.

But some classes, the ones with teachers that I particularly liked, I remembered nearly all of their class.
