I actually do forget an assload of stuff over the summer, but they try to stem that by assigning 99999999 packets to do over the summer. But some classes, the ones with teachers that I particularly liked, I remembered nearly all of their class.
Agreed, I always remember the interesting classes with good teachers and I forget the shitty classes with teachers who sit on their ass, put up text book pages on the board and sip on their coffee all day. It's all about the teachers, I've seen "dumbasses" get A's and B's in classes with good teachers.
On top of an extended year we need: -About twice the school funding we currently have. -Repeal of NCLB so schools that need the most help aren't punished with funding cuts. -Standardized testing reduced to every few years instead of multiple times per year, so teachers can teach the fucking subject instead of spending all their time preparing for generic tests. In the end the current schedule really does need to be ditched for year-round. This isn't the 1920s, kids don't need to be free to spend summer working on the farm any more.
That's also one of the problems. America is a culture of rock and roll and blue jeans.
Actually, we're more a culture of Lady Gaga and Abercrombie now. :sigh:
I do not know what state you live in, but here in California we get new textbooks at all grade levels every 3-4 years.
That's bullshit. I live in California and all of our textbooks are from like 2005, with the exception of Algebra 1 books, which in my opinion shouldn't even be a class offered in High School. If they want to really advance education, DON'T FUCKING PASS STUDENTS WHO AREN'T READY TO BE PASSED YET! For US students to "compete," we can't have kids still stuck in Algebra 1a or whatever in Junior year in high school and who don't know how to read a book.
lack of student interest. "bad day" teachers. teachers that are there to just get paid anything they can get. teachers who just want to be dicks. teachers not being given enough time to fully teach lessons they want to give students. the list goes on.
Remove humans from the education system. Problem solved!
in my opinion public schools should learn from private schools they have some good ideas
in my opinion public schools should learn from private schools they have some good ideas
Private schools' greatest strengths are their method of funding themselves.
I don't give a shit, this is only for primary and secondary school I'm guessing. If it isn't then I'll care.
Remove humans from the education system. Problem solved!
or you can actually get cool and fun teachers who can teach generally well, i had and currently have a teacher for english who is fun and dicks around with us, but she also teaches very well. and i can assure that i'd remember most of her class.
Take children away from their parents at birth and let the government raise them. It is the only solution.

I forgot.
Oh yeah, the government breed teachers and implant personality chips into them. I forgot.
keep teachers who want to teach, remove ones who just want the job to make money.
Foreign language programs should also be mandatory. I wish I was made to learn a foreign language when I was 8.
I think they are since a requirement of high school is to get at least 2 years of a foreign language.
keep teachers who want to teach, remove ones who just want the job to make money.
It... doesn't work like that.
keep teachers who want to teach, remove ones who just want the job to make money.
who the hell teaches for the money teachers bitch all the time about not making enough money
Maybe US education would improve if the teachers were paid a decent salary instead
Not so much that, but teachers require support. When a school can't afford books and basic materials to teach kids then learning becomes a problem. Most schools use old books that are incredibly outdated. A perfect example is when i was in school I remember I had a English teacher who had to fight to get us just basic novels too read. Our current books where water damaged, falling apart. In fact we had to rotate books in class because we couldn't get enough for every student. In fact my teacher got so upset she actually went out and bough every single one of us a book. Mean while she was fighting the school so we can get new text books and basic paper back novels. They told her they didn't have the funding. Guess what they do a week later...the repainted the footballs team bus, complete make over. Sure it looked nice, but wasn't necessary. Another major flaw in the U.S education system is that they don't support creativity or free thought. You're toughy only what is on the test or state assessment. You don't learn anything else but that. Most of the time is "here look at all this content, study is and remember the answers for the test." I think school should be extended, it gives teachers more time to go though and let students see the wider aspect of things. Instead of this narrow mindset that only shows you what they think you need to know, which is on the test. Same for teachers, they're not allowed to get creative and create new and fun ways for learning. They need to engage the students and get them to want to learn, but any type a teacher does step up and do this they get shut down or some type of negative attention.

Kids will just start skipping school on the last month.
But some classes, the ones with teachers that I particularly liked, I remembered nearly all of their class.
I can agree with that. However, I never had a major probelm with the teachers assigning too much work or teachers acting like dicks. Mainly because I can easily convert them into being a nice teacher by regarding them with respect.
Kids will just start skipping school on the last month.
and if we REMOVE a month they show up to an empty school and stick around for a few hours (jk neither of these scenarios make sense) there's no problem with extending school, just gotta add some more benefits like better teacher pay grades and the removal of No Child Left Behind curriculum, a happy teacher means happy students the extended month could be used simply to allow the teachers more time to go over shit instead of flying through the chapters/curriculum. it's not like they are going to cram more shit to learn in that month, you'll just go through the whole thing a bit slower
Wrong wrong wrong wrong. We need better schooling, not more time for worse schooling.
Near the end of school you don't even care anymore how long you have been in school, since at that point it just goes by so fast. A week doesn't really mean much near the end of school. So I don't really care much for an extra month.
Maybe US education would improve if the teachers were paid a decent salary instead
Federal government cannot really control that.
why? our school systems suck, we need more time in the year
No our school system is fine and we have plenty of time it's just that kids don't give enough of a shit to learn and I guarantee adding more time to their school year is not going to motivate them.
No our school system is fine and we have plenty of time it's just that kids don't give enough of a shit to learn and I guarantee adding more time to their school year is not going to motivate them.
This about sums it up.
No our school system is fine and we have plenty of time it's just that kids don't give enough of a shit to learn and I guarantee adding more time to their school year is not going to motivate them.
to me the biggest problem is that there's too much bureaucracy and not enough emphasis on the developing mind i mean come on, kids shouldn't have to take tests in elementary school, if you're already told you suck at that young age you're not gonna be motivated for your entire life [editline]04:25PM[/editline]
This about sums it up.
oh whatever "LADY GAGA AND AMBERCROMBIE BAW BAW"
