Obligatory.
Wow, now it all makes sense. You get your opinions from The Best Gamers. That's like getting your news from The Onion.
the dev is a gigantic cunt enough that the game isn't worth even pirating. because, he's just a gigantic piece of shit.
So basically you are proving his point FP doesn't really hate Fez, they just hate phil fish (protip: nobody really likes him), and somehow that makes his game bad I think Tom Francias of former PC gamer UK can be a bit of a dinkus but I would personally think I would be a bit of a goddamn moron if I would have thought Gunpoint (his recently released game) was also shitty simply because I can't agree with half the shit he says. I don't though. I don't agree with a lot of what Tom Francias thinks about games but his new game is pretty damn good. It's really stupid how FP pretty much universally never played Fez but just assumes its bad because two people who don't even like the genre say its bad and because Phil Fish just is terrible at PR
You've forgotten everyone on FP almost exclusively hates Fez because people don't like phil fish and it didn't come out as a PC game at first (so it's not relevant)
I like a lot of games where i fucking hate some of the developers. The main issue is that Fez is seriously one of the most pointless, boring, and disappointing games I have ever played in my life. He focuses purely on cashing in on NES/SNES nostalgia and ~art~. He didn't think once "Is the game I am creating engaging at all to the player, is there a point for doing any of this?". I don't even hate retro style indie graphics. The game comes first, and when one of the most simple and misguided gameplay designs I have ever played wins fucking indie awards? Fuck right off Phil Phish.
I can very well claim Fez to be shit as its gameplay requires you to read QR codes. And I have nothing to read them with.
I can very well claim Fez to be shit as its gameplay requires you to read QR codes. And I have nothing to read them with.
Its kind of optional, but yeah I thought about that when I was playing it too.
I can very well claim Fez to be shit as its gameplay requires you to read QR codes. And I have nothing to read them with.
No it doesn't. The QR codes are just an alternate way to solve a puzzle that can be completed through actual thinking and detective work. They were in no way required to complete the game.
So what do you consider the requirements for something to be considered a game? Because everything you said can be applied to most puzzle games, including things like Portal and Antichamber.
How about challenge? What's challenging about Fez? You can't fail in that game because it holds your hand the entire way. And it's gimmicky "360 world" thing wasn't even utilized to it's full potential.
I can very well claim Fez to be shit as its gameplay requires you to read QR codes. And I have nothing to read them with.
They aren't required. There are alternate ways to solve those puzzles.
Obligatory.
I love how FP always posts this video as some kind of golden truth in every Fez thread before forgetting to mention that The Best Gamers is a sarcastic reviewer group and it's literally the only negative "critic" review of the game
I love how FP always posts this video as some kind of golden truth in every Fez thread before forgetting to mention that The Best Gamers is a sarcastic reviewer group and it's literally the only negative "critic" review of the game
sometimes i think the best gamers' opinions are more valuable than ones from ign, gamespot, etc
How about challenge? What's challenging about Fez? You can't fail in that game because it holds your hand the entire way. And it's gimmicky "360 world" thing wasn't even utilized to it's full potential.
Its a puzzle game. What is the challenge in Myst? You can't even get shot at in that game lol! Stop acting like you've played the game.
How about challenge? What's challenging about Fez? You can't fail in that game because it holds your hand the entire way. And it's gimmicky "360 world" thing wasn't even utilized to it's full potential.
Because it's not trying to be a platformer! The only people that think it's a platformer are the people who watched a video of the game, or only played 10 minutes of it. There's a button combo that literally allows you to fly into the air, and it can be used as soon as you start the game. Fez was built around the series of puzzles and seemingly arbitrary icons throughout the environments that actually led to solutions.
sometimes i think the best gamers' opinions are more valuable than ones from ign, gamespot, etc
but they're not even their opinions - they're sarcasm.
IT doesn't change the fact several places gave this GAME of the year which makes no sense, there's nothing special about this game at all the guy has a large e-peen though
but they're not even their opinions - they're sarcasm.
exactly
Its a puzzle game. What is the challenge in Myst? You can't even get shot at in that game lol! Stop acting like you've played the game.
I have played the demo. Why are you so aggressive over a stupid game?
but they're not even their opinions - they're sarcasm.
if you were paying attention he raises good points in some of his reviews although it seems the point goes over your thick skull
sometimes i think the best gamers' opinions are more valuable than ones from ign, gamespot, etc
They are nice and make good points yes, but most of the games they say are "bad" aren't really bad, they just overblow problems (and sometimes things that aren't really problems) for the sake of comedy. It's silly to watch their reviews and take them as gospel truths, because they aren't- they are made to be biased with a certain style of reviewing for the sake of humor. There's good info to gleam about a game in a "haha they are kind of right!" sort of way, but it's silly to me that someone would actually watch reviews they do to solely determine if they should get a game or not.
I have played the demo. Why are you so aggressive over a stupid game?
Oh congratulations, you played the demo. The demo that doesn't even scratch the surface of what the game actually is.
IT doesn't change the fact several places gave this GAME of the year which makes no sense, there's nothing special about this game at all the guy has a large e-peen though
There is something very special about this game. The code that the entire game is based around is a mechanic you do not see anymore in games. It has some really fucking clever puzzles in it too. And the pixel art isn't actually pixel art, everything is actually 3D.
I don't like Phil Fish's attitude at all but I actually liked Fez. I don't really care for the QR code thing and some of the codes you're required to crack are a little too difficult to realistically expect everyone to be able to crack but some of the puzzles were fairly interesting and I liked how it was a more relaxed game rather than shoving enemies in your face constantly. Made it feel like much more of a puzzle game.
That doesn't make it a good game. I don't even think you can call it a game. You don't fight anything, there's no real platforming other than going as much as you can to the left or right, collect crap, QR codes (lol), and you just infinitely respawn to the last place you were at every time you do because there's no lives. There's no challenge to it. None.
Huh, so puzzles are no longer challenging at all and don't constitute a game now? You learn new things every day I guess.
Wow, now it all makes sense. You get your opinions from The Best Gamers. That's like getting your news from The Onion.
...Except that this video is an actual legitimate review of the game? You're telling us that we didn't play the game, did you watch the video?
but they're not even their opinions - they're sarcasm.
How about their Loudhouse spinoff? Or the minecraft video? Those videos weren't sarcastic and were actual critiques of the games that they showed.
Except the game isn't really about this at all lol It's not the game's fault you can't play things that happen to have a specific art style without immediately dismissing it as just trying to cash in, especially since Fez was in development well before that even became a popular stylistic choice
Ok so I didn't play the game because I think the entire spirit of the game's development was a misguided one? My point is there is nothing to the game except retro art, switching perspectives, and then overcoming easy obstacles and puzzles with no punishment for losing and no enemies. He won all those awards because apparently people care more about what your game looks like and sounds like rather then how qualifies as a good game. The word GAME comes to mind when I think about video-game. When a game has literally no interesting challenge or set of rules, but is loaded with things to look at and admire (especially when it's all pretentious garbage) I lose my shit. Super Meat Boy is a fucking PERFECT example of making a good game ON TOP of a retro throwback feel. Because the devs worked their fucking asses off perfecting the gameplay programming and level design so it felt as perfect as they possibly could make it. All Phil ever cared about was making an artistic retro vibe game but then priorities were lower when it came to actually making the game worth $20.
Not this shit again.
What am I doing, I'm getting upset over internet opinions. Nevermind.
the dev is a gigantic cunt enough that the game isn't worth even pirating. because, he's just a gigantic piece of shit.
So Phil Fish is an actual effective type of DRM? :v:
Huh, so puzzles are no longer challenging at all and don't constitute a game now? You learn new things every day I guess.
Not if it is impossible to fail. There's no punishment in Fez and that's the biggest problem with it. I thought this with the demo, and even the Best Gamers cover that too.
I have played the demo. Why are you so aggressive over a stupid game?
What he's saying is that the game is so much more to the game than its retro art and 3D perspective shifting platformer thing. Having only played a demo and then trying to argue against that is ridiculous. The game was full on internet message board zeitgeist detective mode for a few weeks at its launch for a reason, it was a really cool phenomena, and people are still finding new things in that game.
