edit: I wonder how many of you rating this dumb/disagree have actually played Fez.

At least it's a small, quick mechanic that doesn't take up a lot of time. The majority of time spent in Fez is platforming, and it's boring because there's nothing trying to stop you. It's just there for the sake of being there, and it's gimmicky rotational camera isn't even utilized properly to add, what could have been, challenging/fun platforming. Keyword: Quick-Time Event. With Fez, you're just wasting your time jumping around until you finally figure out where to go. And is Fez even trying to tell a story?
You DIDN'T PLAY THE FUCKING GAME, YOUR CRITICISMS ARE IRRELEVANT BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE GAME ACTUALLY PLAYS LIKE. You keep saying "oh fez is just X and I don't like that" but when someone points out that it's more than X you just fucking ignore them.

I played the demo and got my fill of Fez from it alone. If you're going to include platforming then put in some actual work in your platforming. End of story.
And is Fez even trying to tell a story?
The point is that Fez is a game, regardless of how plain the gameplay is.
My criticism isn't irrelevant. I played the demo and got my fill of Fez from it alone. If you're going to include platforming then put some actual work in your platforming. End of story.
And yet when people tell you that it does, in fact, get harder later on, you just say that you "respawn back to where you were." The platforming DOES NOT NEED TO BE HARD IN THAT WAY. The platforming is used as a mechanism to deliver the narrative. It does not need to conform to your shitty design philosophies.
Literally everyone on this thread is insulting Phil Fish, and I have absolutely no idea who he is A little taste of his cunt-ness?

Calm down, you are freaking out over what people think of a video game.
I think the devs shitty arrogance is hugely relevant because how the 1 dev acts can and will leak into the game and therefore, can and will make it very shitty.

Oh, you mean the basic design aspects that have been in platformers since the motherfucking 1980s?
Shitty design philosophies? Oh, you mean the design aspects that have been in platformers since the motherfucking 1980s?
Just because it exists doesn't mean it's the only--or the best--way that things can be done. The challenge of the game lies in its puzzles, NOT in its platforming. The platforming simply provides a way for the player to progress beyond the puzzles.
Literally everyone on this thread is insulting Phil Fish, and I have absolutely no idea who he is A little taste of his cunt-ness?
https://twitter.com/PHIL_FISH I don't even have to cherry pick. If there is a game element that sucks, then it can hurt the quality of a game. Call of Duty has great atmosphere for what it is trying to do. But the gameplay, that is, the thing that provides the player to progress along with the story and atmopshere, sucks. In fact, it sucks enough for Call of Duty to be a bad game. Fez, has atmosphere, as well as puzzles, but the platforming sucks enough for it to hurt the game enough for me to think it's boring. The puzzles make up such of a small part of the game that I can't even think of it as a proper puzzle game. The game is shallow in it's gameplay and interactivity and for the most part makes it a bad game.

But what Phil Fish chose to do to present a narrative was boring and unnecessary. It needed some type of basic platforming element like enemies to stomp on, lives, hazards, SOMETHING. Not just, "its there and you might fall sometimes."

You literally have no real argument.

Since when is ignoring a big problem with a game's mechanics part of a gameplay experience? It's just acceptable to toss in mechanics with no meat to them? Like, no. Just no.
Because we understand that the game matures beyond the little piece you played and continued to presume to know about the entire game from that point?
Certainly doesn't mature to become a better platformer.
phil fish's disgusting attitude is reason enough not to buy this.
I don't understand this logic. Fez looks interesting to me tbh, when a Steam sale for it happens I'll probably pick it ups. I don't give a fuck about the dev and his eDrama

He thinks platforming is important to play the fucking game and have fun, and you think it's important for narrative. They are both opinions. But I'm sure you know which one I agree with.
Certainly doesn't mature to become a better platformer.
Which is something you don't know.
Then don't advertise it as such.
It is a platformer as well as a puzzle game. You don't see people calling point and click adventure games not a game because their is no punishment, that and punishment doesn't mean anything if you ever played a game with the magic of quick save. I do have to say that phil made a good game, Phil as a person though is a giant douche.
I only read the first paragraph of this book so I know it's shitty
Too bad a book is hardly comparable to a video game. I can play the first level of Super Mario Brothers and form an opinion of the game because the first level shows off right away how the game works, as well as what to expect from the game. I can't form an opinion on a book from it's first chapter because the majority of the book doesn't exist on the first chapter, BUT I can form an opinion on a video game from an hour of playing it because the majority of the gameplay exists in the entire game. [editline]13th June 2013[/editline]
Which is something you don't know.
But he just explained that he played the game??? You're grasping straws at this point.
He played the DEMO.
Ok, tell me, how much can a game possibly mature gameplay-wise? Let alone one with only one gimmick.
He played the DEMO.
Did you read:
Too bad a book is hardly comparable to a video game.
Which is something you don't know.
And what makes you so sure? Because I refuse to complete a game I deem as shit? I don't have to play the entire game to form an opinion that the platforming is lackluster and shit. And people telling me the platforming being the shitstain it is on purpose isn't a valid argument. When a game has to have one of it's BIGGEST MECHANICS dismissed there's clearly something wrong with it.
Did you read: I guess you shouldn't of formed an opinion on my argument from only reading a segment of it, should you? If I play a shooter's demo and the gunplay is utter crap I'm not going to purchase the full game in hopes it's other mechanics make up for it. I played a demo for a platformer and the platforming turned out to be a complete snooze fest.
