The problem is that TDKR works well as a capstone or follow-up to a preexisting Batman (and Superman). It's a brilliant grand finale but a terrible introduction.

One just had one of the most successful trilogies ever with 2 of the films raking in more than a billion dollars in box office revenue and the other only just had a new movie that polarized audiences to an absolutely absurd degree, can you guess which is more likely to get top billing?

Well not all genres are always being made "by the thousands".
Some are popular only for a short time and then die off (Film Noire), others can have sinusoidal popularity. There are however genres that are always being made all the time (the ones you pointed out, for example.)
I'm not informed how it is and was on Superhero movies though.
I enjoy Marvel's movies because they're very well-rounded - good characters, good plot, good visuals, very little to complain about.
I enjoyed Man of Steel because it was just good action. I'm probably gonna go see this one too, if just to see their take on Batman. The most recent trilogy was awesome and I'll be interested to see if this new Batman is as good as Bale's Batman.

Oh I know full well Batman is more popular given that he's had far more capable films, but this Batman has [I]nothing to do[/I] with that Trilogy.
If it was Nolan's batman I would understand but it's not and he [I]shouldn't[/I] get top billing, this is supposed to be a Superman Sequel not another Batman movie with added Superman.
Not to mention that Superman is easily one of the most well-known fictional characters. It's not like nobody knows who the hell this "Super-Man" fellow is and are only going to show up if Batman's in it.

These movie-snobs expect each and every single film to ever be conceived and brought to the big-screen to be completely ground-breaking and 100% innovative, when you can't achieve that. Sometimes you just need to sit down, quiet down, and watch the movie for what it is rather than what you want it to be. If you don't like it, then cool, others might agree with you and others might enjoy it. Claiming people are somehow lesser beings for liking X movie is a retarded thing to do.

Because Batman is more popular because DC decided that Superman wasn't relevant to modern society anymore when they should have been supporting him with great writers.

Have to disagree. The Dark Knight was deeply flawed writing wise and as a Batman story, but as its own super hero movie ignoring anything you might know about Batman it's good.
