i remember when this game was the shit in middle school. i even bought the official handbook for it. (which is outdated now).
Goddammit now I want to play Runescape. Although, I'm pretty sure I last logged off in a member's only area. v:v:v
If you're not a member anymore it should port you to Lumbridge or whatever the starting towns name was. I think.
Awesome, more opportunity for me to make profits.
One time I spent 30 minutes "Rune running", where you turn bank notes of air runes into physical runes, and sell them for 1000 gold each. Then I had a million gold and sold it to the neighbor for $15

Sheeit, I think I'm gonna start up my file again to see runesscape without them pesky bots.
Man I played Runescape like crazy when I was young. Then in grade 7 I sold it for $20. Felt good.
I played the shit out of this in grade 7, but I never ever PvP'd and only reached about level 20.
All F2P MMOs should pay more attention to bots and gold sellers. It's so annoying to run around city and seeing "durr selling 999mil gold for 5bux" from people with names like "fasgadg" which is obviously made purely for spam. I mean shit, can't you add a filter of some sort that if it finds words or a known gold site, it will mute the player for some time(can't ban because that can happen to innocents) And there are the worse kind who will spam you through whispering.
I still played this game up until about 4 months ago, started in 2004, ended up with 200m gp and level 122

The friggen neighbor kid who had never used a computer much before made friends with my brother and after some time, I walk into the computer room to see the kid in the Grand Exchange absolutely kicking economic ass. Kid was brilliant and knew how to play the system to get what he wanted. He'd walk in there with some logs and come out with a full mythril set in a couple hours. [editline]12th November 2011[/editline] And I tried getting my account back, but after requesting a password reset email, I never got the email. :( Account recovery did nothing as well, no email.
SHEEEEEEET NIGGA INTENSE MONEY MAKING SKILLS RIGHT THERE
For the little dirty 7 year old next door, and for anyone really, that was awesome. That kind of grasp on video game economics could prove useful.
I have not signed into runescape since April 2003. :v: What the hell? Someone took my name. Now I remember why I stopped playing only ten feet outside of Lumby.

Why don't MMORPGs make everyone solve a captcha every 60 minutes, if they get that wrong 3 times boot their ip from the server for 5 minutes? That would defenitely deter bot users. Just make sure you don't pop up those captchas in wrong situations, and give users some time to solve them, so they can finish their trade or whatever - imagine the amount of books we could digitalize that way! [editline]12th November 2011[/editline] I think silkroad had that actually - even captchas for logging in would be enough already
I played the shit out of this in grade 7, but I never ever PvP'd and only reached about level 20.
I started playing it a few months ago again. I got bored with my level 80 character and started over, it's much more fun being a low level character imo. Everything seems more challenging and stuff.

If someone is combat grinding, you really can't stop them.
Because that would be IMMENSELY annoying.
Imagine being in the middle of a fight with one of the hardest enemies in whichever game you're playing. You go in with all your team members. Halfway through the fight, "PLEASE ENTER THIS CAPTCHA." I'm sure that would work out well. Anyways, it's been years since I've played Runescape. The last time was probably around six years ago. Time sure does fly by.
Well, Runescape has random events for this exact purpose.
Indeed. However, only a number of them are effective. Any of them that spawn and immediately attack you can be avoided with running away, which would be easy to script a response to.

You guys should start playing again. I started again a couple months ago after almost 5 years of not even thinking about it. It's actually pretty fun.
