My mom used to be a crystal meth addict, and stole from me a few times, I moved out and later she was arrested and was taken to prison. 2 years later (Her prison term was 2 years) she is out, but since she has gone so long without the meth she is no longer addicted. She's back in my life and back to being semi-"normal". There are awkward moments but I am glad I have her in my life. I hope these kids have something like this happen to them too.

Wow. That's an incredibly clean prison for her to not have access to any drugs. Most prisons are crawling with drugs.

Meth and cocaine have medical uses.
Meth is safe when it's used under a doctor's supervision in controlled doses. It's dangerous when it's made in some toolshed in rural Indiana by a guy with no teeth.

I agree. No one wants to be addicted to these types of drugs, but they hold on to you. Doing the drug should make you have to get rehabilitated for the first offense, and maybe a fine. Unless you are a dealer, that still needs jail time.
Instead of sending her to prison, get her medical detox and mandatory drug rehabilitation.
