we do?
I thought Canada has something like this.
[del]I don't think any ISP actually enforces it, though. IIRC it's just ISPs are allowed to monitor. Though, I could be totally wrong on this.[/del]
Nope that bill's been scrapped.
This is fucking propaganda in every single sense of the word what in the flying fuck.

This is a perfect example of how money runs the government and the media, 2 for 1 deal!
What repercussions with the UK get.
And more proof that this country is run by idiots.
Move to Canada, we have better beer.

why? there are generally no independents...ever, they usually join up on one of the sides
congress can get fucked; the folks on capitol hill are extremely out of touch with their constituents. polls indicate about 52% of americans are on board with marijuana legalization, but only 3% of congressmen share that sentiment. and yet, they keep getting elected. these cispa-sopa-fuck-the-internet-bills are just another example of how dramatically different their perception of reality is, courtesy of the various lobbies that run the country.

Just curious, how many of you railing against CISPA in this thread actually know what it says? It's the same level of government regulation as is standard in the telecom and mail/freight industries.
It even includes provisions for citizens to sue the government if they misuse information or breach a citizen's privacy. Regardless of how you feel about it, there sure are a lot of people who are upset over CISPA but haven't a clue what it'll actually mean.

The overwhelming opposition to CISPA exists because it will create loopholes for surveillance on US citizens, and create an easy way for government to subpoena ISPs to divulge personal information on their clients without that client's knowledge.
Don't worry this will get removed for a long time after the people on the internet rage to the people.
Same with SOPA.
Now, up here in Canada, the Supreme court recently ruled that government could not, under any circumstances, ask ISPs to divulge such data, and that ISPs were not supposed to collect that data on their users. That's how I wish it would be south of the border.

What about those bandwidth caps I hear people complaining about?
What about those bandwidth caps I hear people complaining about?
There are third-party ISPs that use the major ISP's lines, but provide extremely high bandwidth caps, or otherwise unlimited bandwidth, for very, very good prices.
fuck off interest groups
fuck off corrupt congressmen

First of all, how are you supposed to ever know you're being watched/monitored/data-collected? Second, sue the government? Are you daft? If they wanted your information for one reason or another you can bet your ass that they either won't let you sue them or won't let you win without the very best lawyer money can buy.
By saying that everyone is just blindly hating this bill is the same thing the guy who wrote it is saying, but I've read it and I am not fucking ok with what it implies. Don't generalize on the internet.
Well American citizens allow those old farts to sit there in the first place.
And they only throw a bitchfit & threatening with civil war when it's about their precious guns.
But when it's about actually important things like this, then it's only a minority who gives a crap.
Or even better, PROPER universal healthcare.
But nope, they don't give a shit about that.
Wack priorities.
Maybe where you live/the people you know, but that's not the case for me.
Canada needs more people, maybe passing this and other stupid bills with boost immigration.

Well, our immigration policies are pretty strict under Harper. It won't be easy for many Americans to get in.
The country is run by a bunch of old fucks who don't know shit about the internet

Wait a couple of years, when Justin Trudeau gets elected, things may improve.

Its easier than you think, Americans can go through the provincial level or the federal level.
