I am sorry, I know this has probably been posted through the thread, but this is seriously awful to browse through (kjerr). I know it might sound morbid, but I can't help my curiosity. I feel terrible about the entire situation, but I still have to ask this.
How did she kill herself?
fuck this place
Was there ever actual evidence of her suffering from metal poisoning?

People said she took a lot of pills, but we have no idea if it's correct or even if she's alive or dead yet
Suddenly, this is the most important and serious matter in all the world. A person commits suicide due to financial and health issues which go by hand, and other life issues. It's grieving time, poor lady, respect pls, this is srs.
You make a witty pun? You laugh at a certain thing in all this situation? Your opinion on this affair differs from the general mourning over her?
Then What the fuck is wrong with you, you're a horrible person, have a box.
Meanwhile, just from taking a glance at the SH frontpage at the time of writing this, we got a rape victim being jailed for being a rape victim (actually ok thread, 5,056 views), a 3 year old disappeared (just 451 views), lightning hitting and wounding people (puns ahoy, 3,330 views), Afghanistan becoming a worse shithole as troops pull back (3,330 views), New Orleans parade shooting (bunch o' puns, 4,739 views), 8 year old stabbed to death (2,386 views).
Comparing those with this one's 14,360 views, where's the humanitarian brigade, why are similar cases, or even worse news, not getting as much attention? Why is it suddenly so serious? There's even some news about science or technology or whatever with more views than some of the tragedies. Sure, a debate has sparkled from this thread, but why not other threads?
Yeah, ok, poor girl, what's happened is terrible, but beyond that I don't care, just like any other tragedy in the news, and I'm not going to pretend that I care now about this. When tragedy happens around my life then I'll be genuinely sorry.
A good portion of you are just hypocrites.

Tried to eat some "pills" supposedly. Nothing's confirmed at this point and no one really saw the vid itself. We'll find out soon as she's, again supposedly, alive.
Wow, this is going to kill someone, and heavily damage Indiegogo's image.
This post in the original thread where it got closed down. Got 6 disagrees.
Great.
I've had enough of the Internet.

the reason people feel attached to this woman and feel empathy is because she has been a mild internet news spotlight of late because of indiegogo withholding the funds on her project (which was successful, i believe) which then subjected her to a lot of hate from people who found out what the fund was for after she revealed more about herself
it's not the first people have heard of her so of course an update on her containing bad news will get a bigger emotional reaction
This is really sad, so many missed opportunities to fix things. She would have got help from her family if they had been understanding about her being transgender. She would have got bailed out by the fundraising campaign if they hadn't pulled it out from under her feet, and finally she would have been covered under government healthcare scheme if she lived somewhere with a vaguely sensible approach to healthcare like the UK.

Easily one of the worsts posts in the entire thread.
It's incredibly self-centered to say you don't care about tragedy unless it directly happens to you.
And I like how you bring up other tragedies that are occurring as if that validates your opinion, then say straight after you don't care about those tragedies making you look even worse than the people you are trying to make look bad.

Personality. People who got hit by lightning, a long with people of Afghan, UAE rape victim and so on have no personality to them known to people around here.
This thread is diffirent, we have a person we know about, we know who it is, we know about her issues etc., so people kinda care more.
Very basic thing, has nothing to do with hypocrisy. "Death of one is a tragedy, death of a million - mere statistics".

Because what happened to her is big part due to the fucked up mentality of the western society AND the internet sub-society we are all part of.
Yes, girl getting raped and jailed is fucked up, but that's UAE. Nobody here can do JACK SHIT, unless they have high political status and want to impose sanctions and basically start war. UAE is currently fucked up by principle. The end. Nothing to discuss.
3 years old disappear all the time. From what I saw, some disgruntled man possibly took her. Personal issue. Outside of locals who could possibly maybe have chance of seeing her, again, nothing can be done, not much can be said.
Lightning hitting people - well and what the fuck are people meant to discuss? Only thing that comes to mind is discussing lightning rods. Well woohey, you can go and start.
Afghanistan - see UAE.
New Orleans parade shooting - yes, murderous maniacs are a pretty bad thing, but if you knew anything about these, the only way to stop them is to STOP TALKING ABOUT THEM.
8 year old stabbed to death - well, that's fucking awful, but what? She was apparently stabbed to death by her 12 year old brother. What can one say? What can one do?
This one case, this girl this thread is about, probably killed herself largely due to what this, immediate society we are part of and we communicate with, almost basically one extended COMMUNITY we are in. I don't want to point at anybody and say "you are responsible", but for fucks sake, if THIS thread itself contained less of asshats who go "attention whore, who cares", if there was fewer of them among, I am sorry, but us; internet users communicating over completely unbound and interwoven social media, then she might have been alive!
She should have had far more support. There should have been a massive public row against indiegogo; they do rely on publicity. IT COULD HAVE CHANGED THINGS.
The terrible homophobia, misogyny and cruel refusal within this sphere we are basically all in, is, unlike what happens in UAE, our immediate problem, and if you don't want to get involved, your choice, but it's basically like seeing a carwreck happening over the street and waking off, without bothering to call the ambulance at the very least.

Exactly, I understand that, it just disgusts me how much more seriously are people taking this while they're just insensible with other stuff. And it's only been since she's been on the spotlight that people have cared.

Internet is the key word, otherwise it would just be 'lol suicides happen all the time we cant do anything anyways'. If this hadn't happened around the internet, people wouldn't have cared around here, yet there's some people that seriously get defensive, personal, and make this a fucking universe of a deal.

And don't forget she basically killed(?) herself due to something that happened ON the internet. Internet isn't just the informational medium here, the internet community is part of what caused it, and also who could have prevented it.
Have you considered me using those as statistics? I said it, you've acknowledged it, I don't care about those because they're not personally related to me, and I'm not going to care now.
Fair enough if you are using them as statistics then. But what Gudman said is directly spot on, it is easier to care for something when you are given a face and personality to care for than something like those you brought up which you don't really get the same level of it.
Also, some parts of the story do hit very close to home with some people, like I know transgender people and I care for that in particular because I hate to see this thing happen to people like them. it's not completely putting all of my care in this story, but it does make it easier to identify with the girl when so many things that occurred to her are close to things I truly care about.

That's what I mean, it's not the medium the news are transmited through but rather where has happened.

I know and understand people may care about stuff like this, but don't go absolutely nuclear on someone that doesn't feel as much of the same way, that's what annoys me.
i hope she's okay, like that neogaf post said
depression fucking sucks and unfortunately a lot of kids on the internet dont understand because we have a terrible view of it and suicide in america (and all over the world). ive never attempted suicide, but ive come close a number of times. if i didnt have people in my life that love me and try to keep me happy on a daily basis i can guarantee i wouldnt be here right now. im lucky, i have fantastic parents, an amazing boyfriend, and a whole (highly conservative) family who accept and love me as transgender. what this girl needed was the help and support of her family because, although it probably wouldnt have cured her depression, their love and financial support for her lifesaving operation would have helped her become stable. instead what she got was a shitty family, a shitty healthcare system, and shitty cunts on the internet who confirmed all her thoughts and fears about herself. i think im rambling now and what i said probably doesnt have much meaning, but i just wanted to put in a few words on this whole thing.
If you don't care, why are you spending time trying to compare the number of views on other threads with this one?
Yes, it's very tragic when loads of people die.
But the thing with this apparent suicide is how it already since day one was filled with drama. Of course people on the internet are going to find it easier to debate or relate to something that mainly took place on the internet.
With your comparison you may as well drag in the games section and try to argue about how much views certain game threads have over threads in SH. (my point is that it doesn't mean we care more about something over another, it's just simply that we don't have a much thing to say about things that we know little about)
I know and understand people may care about stuff like this, but don't go absolutely nuclear on someone that doesn't feel as much of the same way, that's what annoys me.
It's particularly stupid that alot of the people that have been shown to not care are directly attacking her for what she is, so it isn't really unreasonable for people to be angry at them for it.
If you don't care about her, then whatever it's not like that's going to change not that it should be brought up anyway, but if you don't care and decide to attack her for it then you are opening yourself up to being called an idiot.
I know and understand people may care about stuff like this, but don't go absolutely nuclear on someone that doesn't feel as much of the same way, that's what annoys me.
it's perfectly understandable that someone who's legitimately affected by this would feel insulted at some cynical fuck stating how much they refuse to care, despite by your own admission this being a completely pointless statement. don't try and act like your meaningless edginess actually added anything to this - you're not doing anything more than offending people who have genuine issues.

Get out.

I brought up statistics to show how despite of being similar or worse things, people don't give two shits or care for that matter, and in a good bunch of cases, it's okay to make puns or whatever out of it, but here people will go nuclear on you if your reaction isn't beyond 'oh my god that's terrible I'm crying right now', let's not even mention if someone tries to make a pun, suddenly you're the worst person alive, hitler being second only.
Yes, this affects more people due to being in a environment closer to them (in this case, the internet), and people will get more butthurt, but realise you don't get the same reaction from other news, perhaps you'll read it and be like 'well that's terrible, there's certainly issues in X place', maybe a pun will pop in you mind.
Understand other people may not feel as affected as you and will react just like I said above, they'll acknowledge the misfortune, perhaps throw in some food for thought, and they'll be done with it.
But as I said, people are totally jumping over anyone that doesn't feel the same way they do, even if they just state what they honestly think. For simply saying 'That's terrible, but it doesn't affect me and thus I don't personally care', I've been jumped over already. And that's the same way you probably feel when you read about some tragedy far far away.
It's particularly stupid that alot of the people that have been shown to not care are directly attacking her for what she is, so it isn't really unreasonable for people to be angry at them for it.

But I haven't attacked her? Attacking her is dumb, yes, and while a lot of it could just be trolls fucking around for the sake of it, perhaps there's people that genuinely think that way, they hold that opinion. Respect that, and instead of crucifying them, figure out why would they think that way etc (although honestly there's some people beyond reasoning in these cases). It's so easy to jump over others.
