Well, there's already a cure avalible for blindness that was invented by the ainchent Romans, known as "sightus perfectus", but was then destroyed by the keiser of the Germanian Empire, the rightful inventors of modern day aviation.

Embryonic stem cells are still the best cells that can be used for stem cell research because they are able to differentiate into many specified cells as opposed to an adult stem cell.

Uhm no, they study phenomena they want to study in their relative fields.
I'm sure virologists are currently studying ways to destroy the AIDS virus and utilise viruses in producing certain chemicals, physicists are studying all known phenomena in the universe and looking at how emergent phenomena emerge from simple systems, and biologists are busy working feverishly trying to patch up the few remaining holes with the theory of evolution.
Scientists study whatever they feel like, it works the best that way.

I hope being able to see for the first time works out better than being able to hear for the first time after a lifetime of being deaf. From what I heard a deaf person who gains the ability to hear can't single out noises or ignore any sound unlike a person who has been able to hear their entire life.

From what I've seen, people who were always blind have the same problem. The lights make no sense to them.
