why did they blast him immediately if they didn't think he wasn't a serious threat? iirc the dispatcher didn't tell them that he 911 caller said they didn't think it was a real gun.
Let's look at it from a different perspective.
Officer 1: "Look, there's someone on a phone, I wonder if that's the person that called in to 911."
Officer 2: "Even if it isn't, they might have seen the person."
So they drive right up because maybe they don't see the person has a gun; because they maybe don't know that is the person in question. Then, just as they pull up the person who has been walking towards them reaches down a pulls what appears to be a real gun out of their waistband, and this happens.
If you watch the security camera footage in full screen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z8qNUWekWE), it looks like the kid is walking towards the cops and is doing something on his mobile phone. You can even see what appears to be him pulling up his shirt, perhaps in a motion to pull the toy gun out of his waistband (that might have been hidden from view up until that point; thus potentially explaining why the officers didn't see him as a threat until that moment). But it's hard to tell because the footage is shit and it's only a frame or two, after which he's been shot.
It's easy to look at what happened with all of this information and say the police pulling right up there was what resulted in the person's dying. But, at the time, with the limited information they had, it's perhaps more understandable.
As to them not performing first-aid; perhaps they didn't know how. I'm not well versed in what degree of first-aid training is required by police.
For people questioning why the cops didnt get out of the car further away, remember you're two armed and vested cops investigating a young child who has a weapon but hasnt used it. It's plausible they thought the kid thought it was a gun, or thought they could talk to him beforehand.
Is it smart? Absolutely not. But i can understand why they skimmed the idea of taking cover, they probably had never experienced a call involving children and weapons, so they looked at it poorly.
I would reiterate the point about not giving children toys that look dangerous in public but it's been made many times
The thing that always seems fishy about this is, how come white mass murderers often seem to be apprehended safely, whilst black criminals (or innocents) almost invariably die? The police literally saw this kid playing with something that looked like a gun and he didn't put his hands up quickly enough, then they shot him. This perhaps isn't as clear-cut as the Eric Garner case, but I'd still say that these cops made a monumental fuckup.

I try to base my thoughts on the facts. I'm still not decided about Mike Brown, I form opinions on a case-by-case basis. But I still think they were in the wrong for shooting him here.
from this website more whites are shot by cops than blacks.
I hope everyone applies, goes through the process several times, gets hired, and becomes a police officer in this thread.
You all have just so many perfect fucking ideas for everything
So you have to be a cop to weigh in on this discussion and decide whether the cops fucked up or not, which ended with a 12 year old being shot at close range a few seconds after they pull up?
It seems all logic has been sucked out of this thread.
I dunno if it was Suicide by Cop but that's actually a scarily common practice.
